Sony Fanboys Reach Extremes, I Renew Embarrassment For Being A Gamer

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6168044...

The full petition, available on the Petition Online Web site, reads, "To: Capcom, We (The people that have signed this petition) feel very left out in your decision to make Devil May Cry 4 a Multi-Platform title, and hereby agree to boycott your sale of Capcom affiliated games. This is due to your decision to turn your back on your most faithful gaming company. For years we have enjoyed games, we have reaped the benefits of your committment [sic] to Sony. We find it absolutely demoralizing for not only the gamers, but also Sony itself. We want you to know that will not, and should not stand for your actions, and therefore withold [sic] our option of buying your product."

I've read this article three times and despite all the stupidity I have encountered from the gaming community online, this just tops it. I mean, what in God's name is wrong with these people? It's like 10,000 horror fans signing a petition saying they no longer support anything released by Universal Studios because they also made a comedy.

I mean, if it went XBOX exclusive I could see their point, or even if they thought it would make the quality of the game suffer, but instead the problem is that they are owed as fans when it comes to business decisions.

rediculous.

Be sure to extend the haterade page with this if you have not done so already

It's actual message nearly seeps out of it:

To Capcom: We, the undersigned, payed way too much money for a system that is utter trash. We believed that upon purchasing the Sony PS3, we would be able to play games that were released exclusively to us, and not to owners of other, 'lesser' systems. That, so far, has not been the case. Since most developers are coming to realize that the high price, and low popularity, have made the PS3 less desirable than the Xbox360, our PS3 exclusive games are beginning to dwindle. In short, we are starting to regret our fanboy purchases, given that we could have saved about $200 and played the exact same games.

So please, Capcom, throw out common sense and desire for profit, and sell those games to the extreme minority.

How can someone feel "left out" merely by the inclusion of someone else?

We're talking about fanboys here. Leave all logic at the door, there is no need to understand.

Economists call this the "snob factor", which I understand is shorthand for "idiots do the darnedst things sometimes".

Sometimes I feel left out when I see the kind of pubtards that EA let into 2142.

the need to feel 'exclusive' is a powerful force.
Be it 'I liked this band before they were big' or 'Ain't no women/blacks/jews/irish is joining my club!'

This has actually been discussed in some detail in the "OMG DMC4 Multiplatform!!!" thread (or whatever it was called), as well as the haterade thread. So,

That said, yes, these people are crazy. I can only assume that some of them bought a PS3 based on hope and the "promises"/expectations that certain key franchises would require a PS3 - DMC, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, etc. First it was GTA4, then DMC4...can't wait to see what's next!

As I mentioned in one of the other threads, the stupidity of this petition makes me want to pick up DMC4 for the 360, and I'm not even much of an action gamer.

Step #3 from the Book of Fanboy:

Praising Another System Is the Same as Insulting Yours

So I see this is a little known variant on Step #3. Pity these poor souls, they are just keeping the faith.

I love it. I've been BEGGING people on various forums to sign my petition for legitimate concerns with Microsoft over Xbox Live Marketplace and we've barely got a few hundred in two months. But some fanboi hates Capcom for stupid reasons and gets thousands of them?! God I hate the Internet sometimes...

For every intelligent person on the internet, there's about 200 blithering idiots.

Not to be a Johnny Naysayer, but is there a recorded case of an online petition making a difference in anything, ever?

Probably not...

However, there was a petition for releasing Phantom Dust in NA... and even though I sign it, I didn't think much of it. Yet, few month later there was an announcement that the game is going to released in NA. So... who knows.

Hell, real petitions barely ever accomplish anything. Online petitions are far more unreliable as far as legitimate signers are so I doubt anyone takes it seriously.

Dude, did you READ those signatures?

In response to a thread on the official Capcom forums titled "What are you thinking, Capcom?" the company's senior director of strategic planning and research, Christian Svensson, said, "We are certainly moved that people are so passionate about our products that they would go to such extremes."

He continued, "At the same time we feel that allowing more people access to our content pleases far more people than it displeases (after all, we're not denying DMC4 to anyone that was already going to get it). It really is the best decision for the company and for consumers." He later locked the thread, stating that it had "run its course, gone off course, rolled down a cliff, hit a cow, and then exploded."

Poor, poor cows. :((

I thought there was a starforce outcry from the community that ultimately resulted in Ubisoft dropping that particular copy protection from HOMM prior to printing. Not sure if it was a petition though.

Please tell me that's actually going to be given over to Capcom, because that would be beautiful.

No, it was a lawsuit actually. There are a few people (like the tools at the glop.org boycott) who like to take credit for it but in reality someone sued Ubisoft for damages to his computer he allegedly received from StarForce. Ubisoft settled the suit and went to SecuROM.
