I'm going to date myself horribly by suggesting my choice. When I was a kid I was really hooked on Star Blazers or as it's known in Japan Space Battleship Yamato. It came out in the seventies so it incredibly dated but it's still cool in a retro sort of way. It still has this sick rabid following in Japan.
And Certis, your high praise of One Piece caused me to go wikipedia it, but good lord, over 300 episodes? No can do!
Shonen Anime tends to drag. While the anime of One Piece isn't horrible, I recommend reading the manga instead.
Which sub of Bleach/naruto you guys watching? personally I've been going with dattebayo.com
oh and the Bound filler arc for Bleach was very boring, IMHO.
Isn't it over already?
I dropped Bleach at that arc. Wake me up when it's over.
I use whoever releases first.
Wake up little Suzie! Although the current arc has gotten off to a slow start.
Time to look up which episode the fillers end.
109 is the beginning of the post-Bound arc.
Anyone seen Genshiken? I'm planning on checking that one out.
I dropped Naruto a while back. Just could not handle it anymore. I should have known way back when withe the Sakura flower arranging flashback episode, but it took another horrible episode or two before the drop. I'm curious what Edwin's "No Filler" version is.
I'll echo the praise for the Death Note series. I haven't seen the movie yet.
I haven't looked for anything new in a while - where do you guys go to find out what's on the horizon?
Anyone seen Genshiken? I'm planning on checking that one out.
It's a show about being Otaku. It ran for 12 eps, there's an OAV out that I haven't tried to find in a fansub format yet, and Manga entertainment did an outstanding job with the DVDs. Oh, and the manga is considerably better, IMO.

It's a great series, especially for Otakus and anyone that's been into anime for a while. The only problem with it is it's too short of a series! If you end up digging Genshiken, make sure you check out "Otaku No Video", and possibly "Welcome to the NHK" (although it's a bit darker/edgier than the previously mentioned titles.)
I don't know if it's been mentioned recently, but I was a huge fan of Robotech back in the day, and must-see's for anyone with that same background are Macross Plus (excellent 4 part OVA), Macross Zero (You'll have to dig for it, but it's got the most beautifully animated dog fighting scenes I've ever seen) and the original Macross series, which was recently released on DVD. Also, if this puts you firmly in the camp of liking "high-tech aerial combat", you might be interested in looking at Yukikaze. It's a 3 part OVA series that has a pretty cool sci-fi plot and some great animation. Although it can get a bit Emo at times, it's still worth a watch.
As an aside, has anyone seen the Robotech: Shadow Chronicles movie that was recently released? I'm curious if it's worth checking out.
Welcome to the NHK is a bit.. bizzare. It deals with Hikikomori(Wiki it for more info, I'd walloftxt crit people for instagib explaining it here), and other really bizzare, yet true fetishes. Not for the weak of heart.
As to Otaku no Video, it's the all time Gainax classic on a caricature of the studio's founders plans to take over the world via Otaku Culture and become.. *drumroll*
THE OTAKING! Pretty amusing OAV, and if you go to any cons, it's pretty much an annual event.
Oh, and on Robotech v Macross: Macross is better, and Lynn Minmay must die. Haven't seen Yukikaze though.
Man, when I was a kid I LOVED me some Robotech - and had a crush on Minmei. So watch it, AnimeJ.

I liked Robotech until I discovered Macross, which enlightened me to the truth of Robotech: it's horribly edited mishmashed Macross.
As to Lynn Minmei, I have only this to say. When watching 'Do you Remember Love?' and it gets to the bit where our hero is going to save her as she's falling, I have an irresistible urge to cry out 'LET HER FALL!'. Can't stand the whiny bimbo at all, no matter how well drawn she is
When Rick Hunter ended up with Lisa Hayes, I was like, "Are you CRAZY?!?!?!! That girl's got nothing on Minmei!!!!"
I also preferred Veronica to Betty, so perhaps there's a trend here.

Having seen actual, real-life otakus in Akihabara last weekend, the only thing you should check out if you really are one is the barrel of a gun. Or a noose. Or a very tall bridge. Just rid the world of your horrible presence so there's no chance of you ever enjoying it anything I do and tainting it by association. Only liberal use of rohypnol will ever have a chance of preventing you from being an evolutionary dead end, you might as well get it over with.
Having gotten that off my chest, what I've seen of Welcome to the NHK was quite funny, so you could do worse.
Kepheus wrote:Mimble got me Kino's Journey for my birthday. It's a collection of stories, each episode being complete unto itself, some sweet, some sad, but most are quite compelling.
Is that the one about the guy that tracks down the little demon spirit thingies? Originally called Mushishi?
Nope. Just a very capable girl and her talking motorcycle travelling and visiting "countries" (they all seem to be walled city-states). Her only rule is that she can't stay any more than three days.
As an aside, has anyone seen the Robotech: Shadow Chronicles movie that was recently released? I'm curious if it's worth checking out.
Yes. It's not the BEST thing in the world and they did some weird revisionist history to the ending of "New Generation" to make this story work. (The ending doesn't change so much as they reworked it). But it was nice seeing the characters in action again along with most of the original voice cast. Definitely worthwhile seeing.
Genshiken is a huge thumbs up. Ya gotta watch it. Just don't be suprised if you think you got the wrong DVD at first.
Nodame Cantabile if it were live action:
What do you mean 'if'? There is a Nodame Cantabile dorama.
I missed this thread *sniff*
Bundt-cake Argon
Kappa no Suzuki
That I can't say personally, however I have it on fairly good authority from some folks I know whose tastes in anime and j/k-dorama all say it's pretty good, at least as good as the anime, if not quite as good as the source manga.
I absolutely love how his rectum is being replaced with a muffler.
That's a pee bag.
Colostomy bag maybe? I hope he's not peeing out his rectum.
