April 4 - April 8

Section:

Think of this as the Official Give Your Wallet a Break Week. This has been the second spring in a row with a bevy of high-quality but high-spend games, and particularly for those of you who got wrapped up in the 3DS mania last week, a nice quiet week without something that absolutely demands your immediate attention might be a nice change of pace.

For those of you who have picked up Nintendo's latest handheld technology, I am interested to see how long the bloom stays on the rose. Certainly it's nice to have a DS on the market with an analog stick and better visuals, but the 3D functionality just hasn't given me the mental push I need to even consider dropping two-fifty down for the device. Admittedly, I'm not the target market, so I'm curious whether a week has seen any diminution of last week's enthusiasm.

As for Game of the Week, there's really nothing in the mix I can drum up enthusiasm about, so this week keeping some money in my pocket is my pick.

PC

- Remington Super Slam Hunting: Alaska
- Shadow Harvest: Phantom Ops

Xbox 360

- Carnival Games: Monkey See, Monkey Do

Wii

- Remington Super Slam Hunting: Alaska
- Karaoke Revolution Glee: Volume 2

Nintendo 3DS

- Rabbids Travel in Time 3D
- Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3D

I don't know, Remington Super Slam Hunting: Alaska looks incredibly realistic to me. Might supplant The Hunter as the go-to hunting game.

Hoard comes out today on Steam. It got some love on the podcast when it came out on PSN, and the demo moved me enough to pre-order it. It's still 25% off too until it unlocks later today.

Still a big fan of my 3DS at the moment, but that's mainly because I'm enjoying GR: Shadow Wars so much. I must be getting close to the end of that though, and none of the other launch titles appeal to me, so the system REALLY needs to get some more good games out there asap.

Admit it, you threw those screen grabs together in Photoshop in like, 3 minutes...right...? Right? The only alternative is that this is a real thing...and I don't think that's a SAN check I'm ready to make.

+1 The demo for that game was tons of fun. Can't wait to play the full game after it unlocks. I noticed a couple people on my Steam list playing the demo more than once, too.

When you're ready, just click one of the links Sean provided us with and decide for yourself.

"Quad Combo" makes me think of shooting an animal in the thigh.

Yeah I'm in for that. Dunno why I missed it on PSN but I'll enjoy it on Steam just the same.

I must admit, that deadpan setup followed by those ludicrous screenshots got me good. I'm still laughing.

That... bison... thing... on the top screenshot looks like it wants to devour my soul.

Bonus points to whoever 'shops Sarah Palin into those images.

I mean Christ, that bear already has a 35 pound salmon in its mouth, what's it going after you for? Shooting its cub maybe?
And there's a fish jumping out of the water. Do you get a speargun too?

I'm pretty psyched for Vampire Smile on XBLA this week. That looks pretty damn good.

In Europe it's only ten percent off from 9.99 EUR. The regular US price is 9.99 USD, which makes European pre-purchase 70 percent more expensive than the US one. I guess us Europeans should hook up with some of the US goodjers and get a 4-pack.

Or jump back 10 years to when the two currencies were about equal.

FYI, the price in America jumped from $7.50 (25% off) to $8.99 (10% off) after release.

I love how most of these hunting games make all of the animals like some kind of rabid monster that needs to be killed immediately before they destroy everything in their path.

It's coming right for us.

Remington Super Slam Hunting: Alaska is temporarily out of stock at Amazon. Seems that $20 price point was too good for some people to pass up.

Either that or stevenmack bought em all in order to burn them and purge the insanity from his mind.

Wait, that's what hunting is like? A bear with a fish in its mouth lunging at you with freaky-eyes, hungry for human flesh? Another bear in the background looking into your eyes and saying "you're dead". Apparently hunting is really exciting. If only that were a 360 game.

All I know is my Co-worker and I both took Thursday off work to get drunk mid afternoon and sing to Glee Karaoke Volume 2.

What more could you ask of a game of the week?

This is for Africa, but I am sure the Alaska game is similar. The lilting sound of cheery African tribal music while THE WORLD f*ckING BURNS AROUND YOU is just...

I feel like I need to start a petition or something.

Well, now I've seen it all, a lion humping a water buffalo.

It's like Target: Terror and Duke Nukem on safari.
