10 strategy games coming to the DS

I found this over at pocket gamer and it looks to be some great strategy games coming to the DS. I'm really excited about Anno 1701. This series has become my "zen" game for the PC. I'm also glad to see some RTS like games showing up. I think the DS will be a great platform for a portable C&C game.

You know, with Sim City already being in the pipeline, the DS only needs Civilization and a port of X-COM to complete my personal Holy Trinity of Addictivness. C'mon, Firaxis, get your asses off the ground. And yeah, Anno should work well on the DS, same for The Settlers.

I am seriously drooling over Anno. I am the same way, I use this game to unwind after a week of work. Being able to use it AT work will be a huge bonus.

Cool, thanks. Definitely looking forward to Panzer Tactics and Sim City!
*Edit* And I will definitely give Settlers and Anno a look closer to release. The descriptions do seem good for a more relaxing game.

I want all that.

If you want to get into the mood for the DS version of Settlers: Widelands, baby!

I didn't see it on this list, but Strategy First is also publishing a version of Disciples 2 for the DS, which looks pretty freakin' sweet.

X-Com would probably be wishful, but I can't imagine a world where Civ DS doesn't make a killing. I'm not even a big Civ-head but I'd camp out for that one if I had to. I can't think of a game more perfect to go mobile on a nice, touch-screen platform like the DS.

I'm really interested in the Anno series hitting the DS. I played 1602 A.D. way back in 2000. Should be a good strategy fix for the DS.

I know that once Simcity DS hits state-side it will be lodged, in an unmovable fashion, into my DS for months on end. I've had quite the Simcity craving and my PCs inability to play Simcity 4 has only furthered it.

There's also the new Final Fantasy Tactics game coming out, as well as the Mana series strategy game. Then there's ASH: Archaic Sealed Heat, Jagged Alliance, and some others I can't remember.

I have never played Anno before, but it looks really interesting as does The Settlers. I think I know 2 games that just got added to my list.

I'll be honest-- I've had a DS for about a year now, and don't currently own any games for it. I play some GBA games that I haven't finished and rent some DS games. There just hasn't been anything out there that's quite attracted me enough to buy and keep. These games, though, are exactly the sort of games I'd love to see. I haven't played a Settlers game in years, and I'd love to revisit the concept. All of these games sound great. Makes me wonder if this will get DSGamer to actually own a DS again.

I see that Strategy has gone to include granny friendly Zoo Tycoon. Are the tycoon games really strategy? I mean you never get any money and you never win for doing all the fun stuff-IE making a whirling roller coaster of death over water, launching the poor bastards into the next world on a train car to hell.

A Front Mission would be fun on a DS.

That's pretty sweet to be sure, but I'd rather have them bring Front Mission 5 to the US. I hear it was pretty damn good, but given the lackluster sales of FM4, Square isn't bothering.

yeah, it's a shame about FM5; hopefully they won't hold it against DS owners to bring over FM1 to the US.

Of course, one could always import the DS version....

I wish Triumph Studios would put out the orignal Age of Wonders on the DS.

Link? Is this more than just a rumor? I'm all over it. It's crazy how long ago FFTA came out.

This was our initial thread that lead to the DS FFT discussion.
And this is a link to an IGN article about FFT for the DS. I haven't heard anything else about it in a while.

*Edit* And you posted in that thread. At the end of it. Skimmer!

I still want Dai Senrayaku ported.

A North American port you mean? I know that there was a DS version released a while back last year. If I remember correctly they actually brought over Dai Senryaku VII over to the XBox in North America, so there may be a slight chance of the DS version coming over, especially considering the popularity of the DS.

I just wish they would hurry up already. Panzer Tactics was supposed to be around now but has been pushed back till summer, and most of the other titles are not much sooner.

Right now my DS is having a dry spell and it makes no sense. The DS itself is selling great so where are the games?

That's not skimming, that's senility.

1up has the new FFTA DS game as a January 2008 game. I hope that's wrong. On the other hand, I think the PSP remake of the original FFT is this fall, so it's possible I won't need FFTA DS until next year anyway.

It's only just been released in Japan. Expect around a year for NA localization to be finished.

EDIT: for clarity, this whole post addresses the PSP, not the DS.

D&D Tactics supposedly hits in May.

Well, poop. And according to Gamespot, it hasn't released in Japan yet, either.

And bring on Disgaea!!!!

I've got some Archaic Sealed Heat... In my PANTS!

I'd like a new Tactics Ogre.

Man, there is remarkably little info available on ASH. I'm all for Tactical RPGs, though.

Still waiting for Fire Emblem DS. Until then, life is incomplete.

PSPUpdates has a May 10 release date in Japan, citing Famitsu.
No North American release date yet, but that's fine. Let them take a year or however long they need - the original had really poor localization, I want them to get that right this time around. That, and skippable cutscenes. Please.
In the meantime hopefully there are some price drops on the PSP.
