"A Game of Thrones" Spoiler-Ridden Catch-All of Doom - books and HBO show

I still don't intend to get HBO, but I will buy the heck out of some DVDs.

So what would they need to add to this and Preacher to create some kind of fanboy trifecta? I'd have to say Firefly. Imagine all the new subscribers!

Come to think of it, between Preacher and this, maybe I SHOULD get HBO.

When The Wire first aired.

I need to get around to reading this series. It's on my list.

Oh, FFS. What does your car look like? I'll stick them on your windshield on my way home some night. Seriously, drop whatever other tripe you may currently be reading and go hither to yon bookstore and buy them.

I'll be in my bunk, mentally swapping in and out all the possibilities for casting Cersei.

Not smart enough. Also, she probably wouldn't enjoy the incest thing...

Seconded. Anyone care to posit an earlier date?

Okay, I'll see what I can do. Now that I think about it, I do still have some money on my Borders gift card.

A few...years... ago? Maybe like... 5 or 6?

OH THANK YOU LORD!

Picked up the first one today. I'll start as soon as I finish Fall of Knight.

Which part of "drop whatever other tripe" didn't sink in?

That one single button mocks me so. It whispers "look! What treasures I deny you!" God damn the button.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you didn't mean to malign the works of Peter David. IMAGE(http://rps.net/QS/Images/Smilies/fryingpan.gif)

I have two rules.

1) I do not read books by authors that insist on using 3 names.
2) I do not read books by authors with two first names. Aside from George Martin, because he uses the Tolkien "R. R." trump.

Do it dude. I discribe this series to friends as "fantasy for grown ups" or "why it really must have sucked to live in a feudal society."

Oh come now, I for one would love to be able to put some co-workers to the sword with minimal consequences.

"why it really must have sucked to live in a feudal society."

It wasn't that bad as long as you were in the upper 1%! Wow, the more things change the more they stay the same.

I read that they were planning 1 season per book, and I think 12 hours is plenty to fit a novel onto the small screen.

I haven't read Feast for Crows yet... heard that it wasn't the way Martin wanted to publish it, that it didn't add much to the story, and that nothing much happens in it. So I'm waiting for the NEXT book now and then I'll read them back to back.

Currently reading Game of Thrones through for the fourth time. And I have my autographed 1st edition of that one on my book shelf. Right next to my autographed Shanarra books.

/nerd

I have heard some noises about dissatisfaction with A Feast For Crows, but I disagree with the idea that nothing happened. I enjoyed it. Not as much as the first two, which I think were the best so far, but it was still the same great series. There are actually comments in it from Martin about how he ended up writing it differently than he had planned, but they didn't indicate that he was unhappy at having done so.

As Unknown was saying, I think most of the complaints regarding Feast were because GRRM wasn't given time/space to finish it. If I'm remembering correctly, I believe he said that the publisher actually forced him to split the book(s) that Feast should have been. Some tripe about people not being interested in buying/reading a 1600 page book, and a need to publish a book (ANY BOOK) soon to calm the frothing masses. As such, he literally hacked a single very very large book into two smaller books. From what I've gathered, he was quite unhappy with the results, as he had intended to actually follow through on some of the stories that were neglected (most of them) in Feast.

At the very least, the next book will be VERY interesting.

George RR Martin interview on SpikeTV.com. It's split into 3 parts (beware, it makes you sit through a commercial before each.). For some reason it won't let me link directly to parts 2 and 3 so you have to add them to the playlist yourself.

But at the end of Part 1 he reveals the new POV in Dance of Dragons!

And in Part 3 he talks more about the HBO thing.

So I tried to read the first book at ColdForged suggestion, but I literally threw it out after the first chapter. Ugh!

....

No, not really. It's great! I'm in the middle of book 2 right now.

Likewise. I'm loving it so far, though I'm really not all that interested in Theon right now.
