October 25 - October 29

Section:

It's that week of the year. The week where you might be able to identify $200 or even $300 worth of games that you could buy. Force Unleashed II, Fable III, Lego Universe, Dragon Age Ultimate, Tony Hawk, Sims 3 and, oh yeah, Rock Band 3. Strange as it may seem in a year so dense with a solid release schedule, this week still exists where the are more games than there are hours in the day to play them.

And, it's awesome!

I'm not going to pretend that there was ever any other Game of the Week for this week except Rock Band 3. I am nothing if not stubbornly single-minded about such things. That said, I am increasingly attracted by Fable III and I am hopeful that the Force Unleashed II can build on the promise of the first. Either way, if you get through this week without spending a dime on games, then you are a stronger, better person than I.

Comments

I blame Cleveland for any interest I now have in Rockband 3.

I took a chance when I got the PR release for Rock Band III and asked if they had any software left over, and they said as long as I don't need the hardware I was free to check it out. Needless to say, if it comes through, I'll finally find out how bad I suck at these evolved games of Simon.

Or broke.

The demo for The Force Unleashed II was pretty great. I don't think it will be money poorly spent.

No games for me this week. I'd love RB3, but I learned the hard way that Rock Band and Apartment Living do not mix. I do look forward to my friends getting it, though!

Darn, I was about to say that I wasn't going to purchase anything this week, then I realized that I'd pre-ordered the "Shank and Spank" pack on Steam that will unlock in a day or so... Of well.

I'm really looking forward to Fable 3, but I'm a little anxious if it can live up to my expectations. I really loved Fable 2, it's one of my favourite 360 games. No reviews yet, but then again, it isn't released until friday over here in Europe... It will probably be my only new and full priced fall-game this year.

Argh..do I wait for the PC version of Fable 3 or do I give in and grab it now. Curse your console-focused shinanigans Microsoft!

Spoiler:

Actually I'll totally end up buying both versions anyway for double cheevos...

Actually, the Dragon Age pack is tempting, mostly so that I've got everything on one disc an don't have to mess around with redownloading and installing a crapload of DLC whenever I want to re-install it in the future.

Fable III for me. I've got the limited edition preordered.

Thankfully I try not to read too much about upcoming Fable releases, so I'm always pleasantly surprised when I sit down to play the games.

So Lego Universe...

Is that like Minecraft but with a Danish license instead of a Swedish one?

As for myself, I'm too deep into Fallout New Vegas to care about any game releases until the end of the year. Though Fist of the North Star looks promising...

Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger Vs. Darkdeath Evilman definitely takes Name of the Week.

Do you get the DLC on a disk? I know in the Borderlands GOTY edition, it just came with codes for the four DLC packs so you could download them. Might want to look into that before buying.

As for me, Fable III is on it's way, Rock Band 3 will be mine tomorrow, and Force Unleashed II will be an impulse buy or wait for a sale game.

Either way, if you get through this week without spending a dime on games, then you are a stronger, better person than I.

If Lego Universe wasn't a subscription model game I'd buy in, but as it stands now there is nothing worth spending money on this week, at least for me.

Fable III is on it's way for me, but it seems like I have hardly even scratched the surface in Fallout:NV. I guess Fable will sit on the shelf a couple more weeks until I have a chance to beat Fallout. Or at least get further in it.

ZHP for me. I'm so stoked for this game. I do love me some roguelikes.

Both Fable 3 and Rock Band 3 for me. Oh the weekend yet to come will indeed be a glorious one...

Dear God there are a lot of games to buy this week. Must be strong and attack my current pile first. I MUST BE STRONG.

Spoiler:

DAO and GTAIV probably. I will have to wait till closer to the holidays to trick the wife into letting me get Rock Band 3.

I'm trying to convince the wife that we can afford Rock Band 3 within a month. Her answer? "Your family is getting Christmas presents this year." To which I respond, "There's no sense in breaking trend now, baby!"

I probably won't be picking up anything new until after Christmas.

Exactly the same for me--I may take the Amazon.com credit from Fable III and flip it into Rock Band, however, I will need a new plastic guitar as well--ugh I may need to take a trip over to the disabling thread to sort everything out!

My copy of Fable III is on its way.

Rock Band 3 is just too expensive for me to get in on at this point. I'm passingly interested in the game, but $130 for the game and the keyboard controller plus however much for a set of drums, a microphone, and a guitar or two is prohibitively expensive. It's fair to say that Harmonix has pitched this new game squarely at people already in the Rock Band camp; if you're not sold already, you're not going to be sold now.

Fable 3 is it for me this week. The demo kinda turned FU2 (gotta love great acronyms) wait for a good sale game, and have never touched a rock band or guitar hero game so that ones easy to ignore.

I live in a townhouse/condo hybrid, so while I get to enjoy multiple floors and a walk-up front door, there is still a row of tenants living above me.

The guy who lives above me is a Rock Band fanatic, who unfortunately plays drums. He's definitely a cool person regardless and as a fellow gamer, I've got no problem with is RB passion.

However, I can safely say that his genuine skill at RB drums on expert have all but killed any enthusiasm I used to have for the franchise.

Doesn't it follow that if you have kids then you're broke?

Yes; yes, it does. Which is why I will also be abstaining this week. The list of games I want to buy that have come out just since September 1st is growing very long; I hope there's a good sale after Christmas! (And it really pains me to not get Rock Band 3 on release day.)

I just grabbed The Ball from steam, which is out tomorrow.

So goddamned excited for Rock Band 3. Maybe Santa will bring me Fable III, but after RB3 I'm on a gaming spending moratorium excepting Need for Speed.

Whatcha got there, vidjagames?

Oh shi....

Forget about your Farble Thrice and your Rockbanks Triple.

Clearly, CLEARLY the winner for this week is without a shadow of a doubt the UK premiere of...

Yeah. I never thought I'd find myself crossing my fingers on the way to a job interview humming "Come ooooon employment! Let's get Daddy the income for a new pair of shoes!"

Or in my case, a new iteration of Fable.
