Staats, is that a Redbone? Looks like Martha Stewart who is a Redbone/Beagle mix.

Could be Vizsla as well? I think they look pretty similar.

Yep, though we called it a Hungarian Pointer.

DS, it's been said before, but I'll say it again: That's not a cat.

Dude! That is the rockingest cat ever. One minute he can be cute and cuddly in the second. Next minute he can be snuggling up to his sister. And the next minute he can be evil incarnate. That's the best kind of cat.

You can see more photos I have taken of the dogs here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/srivera...

They are great dogs, well, except for Katie ... she has this bad habbit of eating remote controls if left alone in the house during the day. Not sure what it is about the remotes that is so chew appealing to her, but just this week we had to buy yet another TV remote after she chewed it up. Maybe she thinks we'll take her out walking if we can't couch potatoe in front of the TV due to her remote killing rampage.

anyone else having random problems with some of the pics in this thread? Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it, for example I can see Sugar and Max, but no Katie. Same results in FF and IE.

I have random problems as well, but it doesn't seem to be the same ones as you.

Wheaten Terriers are good for the very same reasons. They are NOT working dogs and mine is pretty lazy. He was a pain in the ass to train, but he's been a great a dog as you could ask for since then.

Here is a more recent picture of my cat Jamie.

We lost her a year and a half ago at age 21, but I wanted to share a picture of my beloved Miss Bun. I miss her a lot. Here she is:

I never thought I could love a cat again, but Zoë stole my heart with her googly eyes and her odd ways. She has cerebellar hypoplasia, and is of very, very limited intelligence. But she's sweet as can be, and so patient with our 3-year old. Here's Miss Zoë:

And the newest family member, the tramp, the trollop, Mae West in feline form, I give you, Ms. Gypsy Lou! Looks like they had a special on cats at Target:

(We actually adopted her from my brother's fiance. He has a cat-eating dog, so we took Gypsy to avert tragedy when they moved in together. She and Zoë are fast friends now.)

My folks have a Wheaten. Great girl, really. Only problems:

  • She loves running out into the woods and swamp and finding disgusting things to roll in. We've more or less renamed her "Stinky."
  • She's a hardcore sheep dog. (They were originally raised for herding sheep and hunting badgers, etc.) Because of this it's impossible to leave their property in a car without her circling the entire time. If you're not careful (i.e., if the electric fence isn't working), she'll run off. That's how she lost all her womanly bits at age 4 and thus got bad arthritis and other maladies by the age of 7. She might be lazy otherwise, but she's got an excuse now.

Here is our new cat Silvester(we didn't name her) when she was 6 month old (a week or 2 after we got her).

It's kind of late because i wanted to find a picture of our syberian hamster , Grisha but I couldn't find it. Sorry about the picture quality she was tough to photograph. She's 8 month and she's at least 50% larger . She's a very playful and friendly cat.

Any cat raising tips would be apriciated . I'm considering getting one of those self cleaning litter box imported from the USA because they are aren't sold locally, and Cleaning the Litter box is one of our least favorate chore . do those things work?

Not really, no. You still get the smell, in my experience. We used a good clumping litter and it was easy to clean and keep fresh compared to the other kinds. But the "self-cleaning" ones that my friends had broke a lot.

The problem we had with the self-cleaning was that at least one of our 5 cats would pee on the sides and the guide bars, effectively gumming up the works. Blech.

One thing we did was years ago we switched to crystal litter instead of clay.

We have one, and I LOVE IT! The cats have no problems with it, even Zoë, who has a neurological disorder and has trouble keeping her balance. We have no problem with smell, but I change the receptacles and the litter weekly. (This isn't as wasteful as it sounds - the litter pan holds a very small amount of litter.) After scooping the litter box for years, the self-cleaning kind (ours is a Litter-Maid) is awesome. Go for it!

Sylvie is the first pet I've actually had on my own (as in, not a pet I had growing up).

Got her from the humane society in February 2006, and it's definitely nice to have someone who's always waiting at the door when I come home from work.

(she's actually more silver/grey-- hence the name-- than the brown she looks in this picture)

All these pets are very sweet. Somer, your cat is adorable. And she's got a very fetching nametag.

It depends on how many cats you have. We had one, and it's definitely not practical if you have more than 3 or 4 cats.

Well you are supposed to have one litterbox for each cat, so if you had 4 cats, I hope you have at least two of the automatic ones.

I know I've only had a cat for 10 months, and it's only ONE cat... but I find the whole "litterbox" thing to be sort of fascinating.

After growing up with dogs my whole life, I find it cool that cats just do their business in a little sandy box, and how they bury their waste, and everything else. I use Arm & Hammer clumping litter, and keep the box in the bathroom... for a while, I was using "flushable" litter, which worked pretty well, although I started using the regular kind when I couldn't find it in stores anymore. Even so... once a day I scoop it out, and it's no problem. Sure beats having to let a dog outside 2-3 times a day.

Get ready to melt!

My new camera should arrive tomorrow and I look forward to posting some of my first test images

Me three. This thread delivers and I want to see ALL the cats - not a random selection
