How is Viva Pinata, hombre?

So can anyone explain the difference between fertilizers? I know the tinker type correspond to the chance of success, bronze is 25%, silver 50% and gold 100%.

Based only on the bizarre descriptions given here, I can only guess that a hybrid Pinata-Dwarf Fortress game would be the end all of games.

I'm not sure what the rhyme or reason is with the colors, but I tend to match the color of the fertilizer (green and brown for trees) with the color of what I'm growing. Red for chilies, yellow for corn ... etc. The game tells you when you've gotten a bonus growth on something.

Actually if you check the encyclopedia entry for the plant after you have planted it, it will list what kind of fertilizer to use on it. Generally you just match the colour.

Fertilizer colour corresponds with the colour of the plant you want to fertilize. So red for Chili's and Apple trees for example, green for watercress and so on.

Or you can just use the "special fertillizer" that Igor will sell. It works for all plant types.

They say Igor has magic poo.

Has anyone ever experienced all of their romance hearts vanshing at once and then returning later? It doesn't seem to be related to space issues..

I had that happen, almost appeared to be a bug as if I moved my cursor near something that should have been romantic, the heart would reappear.

It sometimes happens when you have too many pinatas or just too much stuff period. The hearts disappear entirely, or the pinatas don't respond to "brown town" commands (pinatas are asexual, so there's only one way for them to get it on). It makes me a sad panda that I can't put as much in my garden as I want to. The garden would look swank if it could hold as many houses, pinatas, and plants I can stuff into it.

Not a bug. When there is too much stuff (including visiting animals, helpers, and bad guys) the hearts will dissappear to indicate that you currently cannot create more pinatas. It would have been nice if they had made the warnings explain that this would happen, though.

Generally you get a message when that happens, right? And a message when you've fixed it. What I'm talking about is I'll just be sitting there, and suddenly all the hearts are gone. I touch nothing. They return later in the day. Aramina has been getting the same problem but it's far worse in her garden. It's gotten to the point where she has to hurry to romance stuff because the hearts go away so fast.

Here's a tip for making cash super-quick.

1) Start a new garden
2) Make some dirt
3) Buy chili seeds and place them as close together as possible
4) Fertilize the chili plants with RED fertilizer three times
5) Sell the chilis for 400 chocolate coins a piece

I usually try for 40 chili plants at a time. I have 3 sprinklings to help the process along. Chilis grow very quickly and provide a huge return on investment. I made about 80,000 coins like this last night in about 30 minutes. Since your money carries over between gardens, you can make cash in the chili garden and then move on to your real gardening.

So THAT's what John Davison was doing with all those chilies in the 1up show.

Actually, you won't get a message. The hearts simply disappear once you've maxed out a garden's pinata limit (including eggs awaiting delivery and pending hatching), and they won't reappear unless you sell off a pinata or one gets broken. If you check your pinatas and their romance requirements are met but the hearts aren't there, you've just got too many pinatas.

The same is true of pinata homes. A garden can only hold so many structures. Even when the garden is maxed out, you'll still be able to go to the shop and select a home, and even move it around to place it, but the game won't let you drop it anywhere to begin construction. If you're trying to place a home in an unobstructed area and it still won't stop flashing red, you know you've got too many houses, and one will have to go. But you won't get any sort of message, unfortunately.

What do you mean you don't have any advanced species? Didn't I send you that Fourheads?

Yes! Thank you! Please, if you're playing send other goodjers your pinatas, its fun as hell. I didn't count that one since I didn't earn it myself. Plus it was my first garden and I started new ones since then. I guess I can send it to my other gardens, can't I?

Yup, you can. And I think you can hire Gretchen to catch you another now (not 100% sure on that). I've been sending Twingersnaps and Fourheads with horrifically offensive names around but I still haven't received any gifts. ;_;

Ok, I watched the 1up comments on this. I am buying it before Vegas. haha

Send me a Fourheads and I'll send you a Pigxie.

It is in their main video show, "The 1up Show."

Thanks, guys. I don't even own a 360 (yet) but I enjoy watching the videos -- looks like the sleeper hit of the year.

Yeah, it definitely is. It was funny hearing 2 of the 1up guys admitting it will end up getting the nod over gears of war for GOTY. I want to buy it tonight but I want to be on HD the first time I fire it up.

That first moment you enter the garden, and realize that what you're seeing is not video, is pretty special.

*GASP*...I've really got to give this a try.

Is there any way to get rid of that proffessor F*%ker? He keeps on targeting my most expensive pinatas. Its really annoying.

He killed two of my Fourheads. I've read that having a Captains Cutlass in your garden will keep Ruffians away, and possibly Professor Pester too but I'm not sure. A mallowolf will also scare them away but you have to direct him towards the Ruffians.

Apparently giving him 500 coins will keep him and the ruffians away too.

That knocked me clean on my ass. That opening pull in on Leafos looked completely prerendered.
