New TV Season Thoughts

Much "bunk time" was logged around the country over that one.

Anyone else giggle at the mention and showing of Guitar Hero in the latest episode of Veronica Mars?

Google delivers: Glau in bikini screencaps

* Boston Legal - ick ick ick ick ick. If that final shot in the court house conference room didn't make your skin crawl, I don't know what will. Now, the real question will be if Coho knew or thought it was an act.

CSI: Miami has become a self-parody. Last night Caine sped an SUV with an imminent timebomb to the beach. Takes off his sunglasses and casually gets out, then strolls away. About 50 feet away he puts his glasses back on right as it explodes behind him. Without looking back he gives the viewer the line, "Burn, baby. Burn."

It was genius of a sort that only Bruckheimer can bring to you.

I am so glad I stopped watching CSI Miami. So very, very glad.

I haven't seen it (yet), but I know exactly what you mean. I said something to that effect after the new girl's ex-husband started showing up to crime scenes.

Friday Night Lights will show a new episode next Monday, following Heroes, in Studio 60's time slot (Studio 60 is taking a week off).

The episode will then be replayed during FNL's normal Tuesday show time.

NBC hopes to get people to watch the critically favored yet criminally underviewed football drama.

One potential hitch in the plan: in most places in the country, actual football - Monday Night Football on ESPN - is playing during that time. I know that I only get to watch those NBC Monday shows thanks to TiVo.

Still loving "The Nine" here; and would be happy to give "FNL" a shot- if it wasn't on opposite "Gilmore Girls"....or "Veronica Mars"...

How much you want to bet that NBC will air the show on every night of the week except Friday?

2 down, 4 to go baby.

I don't care what night it's on as long as someone starts watching it.

You had me right up until Gilmore Girls.

Interestingly enough, NBC is *not* showing "Studio Sixty" this Monday (10/30) and instead is broadcasting "Friday Night Lights"....I may try and catch it...

Filthy skimmer! Legion just mentioned that 4 posts up.

In honor of Halloween, the Sci-Fi Channel's airing a special "live" (only for the East Coast) investigation by the folks at Ghost Hunters at the famous "Shining Hotel" (where in last season's finale, TAPS caught footage of a water glass spontaneously inploding on the nightstand next to Jason's bed) from 11:05 pm to...5 am. I admit I'm a big fan of the show, but sitting through an entire tape-delayed broadcast during the dead hours of the morning's kind of pushing my faith. Hopefully they'll have some kind of re-cap of their findings in tomorrow night's regular episode.

Did anyone watch Beck on SNL this weekend. I just watched him perform Clap Hands. It was awesome!

* The Unit - I had a hard time trying to figure out whether I should laugh or feel embarrassed about the twist at the very end.

* Boston Legal - What is it with them and incest lately? Though Shatner's "Who's your daddy" line nearly made me fall out of my chair. And was I the only one who thought the whole Denise and Daniel subplot was one big Halloween gag as she and Shirley entered the haunted house?

* Ghost Hunters Live - I made it to about 2:30 before my eyes closed for good. Guess it didn't help that I had been awake since five the day before and was trying to stretch it out to 24 hours. Hopefully I didn't miss much, but the unexplained voice calling out in the tunnel round about 12 to 12:30. Also was slightly humorous that apparently pranksters at home figured out how to call the hotel and dial each of the rooms the team were exploring. Could have done without the walking and talking advertisement for ECW joining the investigation or Josh "Las Vegas" Duhammel showing up to pimp "Turistas."

Agreed.

Also, after seeing episode 3 of Dexter, I'd really encourage other people to start watching it.

I watched the first 10 minutes of the pilot episode, with the old tired "darkness, some guy in a room being tortured" thing, and then I remembered - hey, isn't that the show where the protagonist used to be a murderer himself ? And then I turned it off.

Not used to - still is. That's a major distinction that pretty much changes how one should perceive the entire show.

C'mon, man, would it kill you to like a new show?

Actually since reading the feedback in this thread I've watched 5 episodes of Dexter so far and looking forward to more

The problem is that I watched the pilot with my parents, and their judgement amplified mine. After watching it some more on my own I clearly like it, but it's definitely not something that I will ever watch with my parents

I find it fascinating how Dexter's reactions and comments mirror closely those of my past. Like his reaction to the girl inviting him to the ball, his inability to understand the underlying context, and his question - "Why should I go ? It's not fun FOR ME."
And his father teaching him to emulate the happy extroverted people in a social context so he doesn't stand out and draw attention to himself. Wish my father was this understanding during my childhood - and I didn't even murder anybody.

That was pretty good, but I had to explain to my parents the concept of Beck, puppets, and Beck puppets.

"Yes, Mom, Beck is a person that makes music you hear on the radios."

While Studio 60 has lost a little steam with it's preemptive dive into will-they-won't-they land and skirts the edges of cancellation, 30 Rock keeps getting funnier and looks a lot cheaper to make so I can only imagine it would survive longer from a cost/benefit point of view. It's probably not wise of me to mention the two so close to each other as 60 is a drama and 30 is a comedy, but it's nice to know that I've after the cancellations are finished there will be twice the chance of at least one show remaining that will be capable of filling my "behind the tv comedy skit television" cravings.

The one question I had was if "Midge" was his actual nickname or a cover to prevent anyone from finding out about them.

Did anyone see South Park last night?

In case you missed it, *slight spoiler*..... Cartman didn't want to wait 3 weeks for the Wii release so he came up with the idea of freezing himself until the release day. Good stuff.

* History Channel's "Modern Marvels - Tomcat Sunset," hosted by former F-14 pilot Terry of Survivor fame - Almost made a grown man like me cry to see the bird go. Like trading in a Corvette for a Ford Escort.

* Ghost Hunters addendum - Next week's episode features the results from the the Halloween special.

This thread is near and dear to my heart as i tend to get passionate about my fave shows...

the shows i cant miss are...in order

The Wire...simply the most powerful interesting show i have ever seen..period...i hope it never ends and i think it has reinvented itself this year which shows just how talented the writers of this show are..

Dexter..thnx for dvrs!!! very surprised at how much i like this show..dexter is a brilliant idea and again the writing is just top notch...dexters voiceovers make the show

south park...season 10 has been a blast!!! i've seen cartman crap in his mom's face, dick cheney fire arrows at stan and even WORLD OF WARCRAFT being parodied...."if everyone is killed...that would be the end of the world!!!..................................................................of Warcraft!!"..LOL

i also enjoy...criminal minds, all the CSI's(guilty pleasure, like reading a magazine every week, i always know what to expect)
and my name is Earl ...

also really liked Extras on HBO...some really really good belly laughs but it can take a while to get used to the pace of the show

I'm sort of wary about how part two is going to turn out. Being an atheist myself I was confused as to why a world of atheists would just start worshipping science as a religion. The writers don't seem to realize that atheism is a freedom from religion, not a replacement for it. I now choose to shut up before p&c comes knockin'.

No, what the writers realize is that people will always splinter off into separate, mutually exclusive groups - and eventually fight. Religion isn't the cause. Do away with religion and something else will step in to fill the "us vs. them" void.
