NY Times says Wii: Nov 19th, $250.

Here's the math we need to do (the royal we):
console w/ game: $250.
extra controller: $60?
component cables (for 480p): $$?

So, with tax, we're up around $350 here at least. That's still $200 less than I spent on a similar 360 package.

yeah what happened to the promised $199 price tag? $250 is to high.. and your now bumping up into Xbox 360 Core territory.

Nintendo has only said it would be less than $250, I suspect it will be $249.99

Launch games:
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Excite Truck, Trauma Center, Madden 07, Need for Speed: Carbon, Elebits, Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz, Metal Slug Anthology, Rayman: Raving Rabids, Red Steel, Barnyard, Cars, Avatar, Blazing Angels, Far Cry: Vengeance.

Just curious, what key on your keyboard is "£"? Do you have a dollar sign? (that would be strange in my mind)

No kidding! Drop the core to even $275 and you steal all of Nintendo's thunder.

we sure about this Soul? Even the gamecube handled 480p, with the proper and oddly tough to get component cables.

I'm fairly certain the Wii doesn't do resolutions higher than 480p. In fact, I'm right, the Wikipedia page says that it only runs in 480p. Text at that resolution would be like rubbing my eyes with sandpaper. Too bad, the wiimote is the perfect thing for TV websurfing.

I'm not buying this console.

Right now I'm thinkin' Legend of Zelda and Red Steel at launch. Metroid, Elebits, Sonic, Wario, and Resident Evil when they come out. Not to mention seeing what's available on the VC too.

boysetsfire wrote:

The game i'm sure to buy are:
Zelda
Metroid
Super Mario Galaxy
Mario Striker
Monkey Ball

Those depend of the review are:
Red Steel
Batallion war
Resident Evil
Dragon Quest
Rayman
Sonic
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Super Paper Mario
Edit: Excite Truck

There's others games like Project hammer and Disaste that i don't know enough thing to talk about.

edit: There's a good list of announced games here: http://wii.ign.com/articles/732/7326...

Well, you negative nancys have can have your fun complaining about pricing and packaging details that have almost been a forgone conclusion since E3. Personally, I'll be having my fun playing the new Zelda on November 17. Really, the only thing that I have to complain about regarding this news is that only one controller set will be packed in, and that additional ones will cost so much.

As for Wii Sports, well, sounds good to me. As a person who spent countless hours playing the mini games that came with Monkey Ball back around the Gamecube launch, I have no doubt whatsoever that that this game will be a hit in my household.

In other news, has anyone else checked out the interface videos over at http://wii.com/ ? Admittedly, I am a total interface geek, but those had me giggling like a little school girl. Also, I very much look forward to having a "lazy browser" for reading news and viewing porn from the couch, even if the resolution is only 480p.

Well, now to harass the guys down at the Gamestop until they tell me when I can place a reservation...

boysetsfire wrote:

I'd love to get one on launch day.

edit:
Does anyone know if Amazon will have the Wii for pre-order? Have they had other consoles for pre-order before?

My two main options for buying it in the US are Amazon or going to a Best Buy/Circuit City store. And something tells me I won't be able to walk in a Best Buy and find a Wii during the first months.

At the B&M stores you'll probably have to step over the dead bodies from the PS3 launch.

No kidding! Drop the core to even $275 and you steal all of Nintendo's thunder.

If MS dropped to $275, it wouldn't steal any thunder. Nintendo's thunder is not based on graphics but based on games and cool nifty features. The fact that the 360 is selling worse than the orignal xbox doesn't bode well. I think both Sony and MS jumped the gun on the "era of HD". The market isn't ready for it.

pfft.. I dared say $249 and was shouted down that Nintendo never launched a console over $199.

That did look cool.. but looking at the guy holding the remote straight out and seeing the "mouse" icon shake like mad makes me really wonder how well this whole thing was thought out longterm and for the American audience. Looks tiring.. I cant imagine playing games for longer than 15 min with my hand outstretched.

Metal Slug? Really!?! This totally caught me off guard....

[brain explodes]

I don't understand why 480p is too low-res for a console (I've heard more comments to that effect on other boards than this one lately, but still curious for thoughts from you guys too). Didn't we hear all kinds of Female Doggoing here about Dead Rising text not being readable for people that can't run their 360 in HD resolutions?

Heck, unless you're running a Blue-Ray player (most of us aren't), even DVD's still only display in 480p. I'm even fine with playing PS2 and Gamecube games in 480i on my HDTV. It's not that big a deal to me. Does the 360 look the best with 720p? Sure! But I also wouldn't exactly call 480p a resolution so low that it would be like rubbing my eyes with sandpaper.

I've seen that comment on a few blogs today. Where did people get the idea that it was promist at $199? Nintendo has been saying for a while now that it would be $250 or less. Well, it's less. By a penny

I don't think that's going to be much of a problem. Sure setting up your Wii-dude (didja see what I did there? Wii? Wee?) might be a bit of a pain 'cause you'll have your arm out the whole time, but I think with games like Red Steel and Zelda will have you moving your arm around enough that it wont get too fatigued from being in one position.

I guess I won't have to choose between playing Metroid or Zelda at launch. Nintendo also took away the choice of buying Wii Sports or not.

That Wario Ware is a japanese launch title but not a US is kind of weird. I'm interested in seeing if the Rayman and Monkeyball games are any good.

I thought the Gamecube launched with some really strong stuff but then kind of petered out after a while. While there are less launch games I'm excited about, the Wii looks like it will be a better all around package.

Question: Are we considering the Core a legitimate purchase option now? I just want to make sure I'm in the know.

I'm pretty sure I've seen in several artcles that you can rest your hand on your legs and not hold the controller the way the actors do in the commercials. I hope that's correct. I guess we won't know until we try.

IGN post new pictures of wii games.
I particulary like this one of Zelda: http://media.wii.ign.com/media/748/7...

The screenshots seems to be very better than the old one.

Most people don't. Hell, the fact that the 360 doens't have built in wifi is lame. That is one feather in PS3 and Wii's cap.

If I wasn't still a student, I'd be day one on this thing. As it stands, I can only beg and plead for it.

Hm, yeah. Well, I think that the arm outstretched thing was more for the sake of video demonstration than anything else. At least, I would hope so. My guess would be it will probably be quite possible to operate the pointer with your hand resting on your leg.

One more nice thing I found while poking around on wii.com: confirmation that the web browser will support flash and AJAX applications. Thank the gods! It sounds like they plan on selling the browser for "wii points," but I'd be willing to pay $10 or $15 extra in order to get a YouTube browser on my TV. (Here's hoping they will have a decent virtual keyboard, though...) This is something that I've wanted to have since that sort of service first started appearing on the web, but so far no effective solution has presented itself. (The last time I looked, there still was no good homebrew web browser to be used on modded Xboxes, let alone one with flash support.)

Edit: Two USB ports, huh? Maybe there won't even be a need for a virtual keyboard. I hope I still have those extra USB extension cables laying around somewhere...

Wonder if you'll be able to pick up a bluetooth keyboard and use that as well? I hate wires and would love to be able to use a wireless keyboard with the Wii.

What exactly is the Wii Virtual Console? For when you download and play other games such as Mario 64? On demand? A small amount of flash memory?

TheGameguru wrote:

$250 with Zelda as the pack in would have been worth it.. since thats the only game I'm interested in... though I suppose I could always get the GC version.

I completely agree. Wii sports seems very gimmiky to me. Also isn't one or two N64 virtual console games games going to eat up all the Wii built in memory?

Dr.Ghastly wrote:

I'm not sure, actually. If the wiki is to be believed, though, the system has 512 MB of flash memory built in, and supports storage expansion via SD memory cards and USB mass storage. Given this, I would guess that the virtual console will work in a manner very similar to the the Xbox Live Arcade (ie, download once and store on your own memory device, and have the right to re-download it if need be). However, since it sounds like they will be supporting non-proprietary storage options, I wonder what they will do in regards to preventing virtual console piracy...

Yeah saw that on the wiki. If the USB mass storage is true, a nice cheap 20GB HD attached by USB2.0 would be very nice. As for piracy, maybe they lock it down to the system ID or something, not that it would matter much.

I'm dubious. I own a DS, so the Wii's built in interoperability would be a plus, but the only game on the launch list I find compelling is Zelda, which I could just buy for the Cube I already own. I'm still trying to figure out how robust the Wii's online offerings will be. I just quit WoW and I have a huge backlog of single player games, and I am leaning towards the 360 because of Live.

P.S. Hello again.

Yeah!
A new preview of Metroid, they implement the control like a mouse and keyboard this time.
In the preview they said.. "The process of turning - an issue in previous builds - is no longer problematic with the inclusion of expert control".

Zelda is "launch window," though, right? It's supposed to be out by Christmas but not at launch.

No, I'm pretty sure the word is that Zelda for the Wii will be available on launch day. The Gamecube version, however, won't be out until early December.
