Personally, I think that USA losing can only be good for international basketball. I hope this loss breathes even more life into what is already blossoming into a huge international game.
By the by, Koolaid do you have to keep broadcasting my grammatical mistake to the world? I was embarrassed enough when it happened.
As good as the US players are, they still aren't a great team yet. I don't think even greece thinks they have better talent then the US, but as Brazil keeps proving in football (the real kind) talent doesn't mean you will always win. And US basketball players need to learn how to shoot, we seem to have forgotten that skill in our efforts to dazzle people with drives to the hoop.
I'd just like to note that this is my first trip to the sports forums.
I had a feeling this thread was here...I would blame myself but we missed the game. My wife is home now til the baby arrives (yeh baby!) but still got a text message or two from work, noting our (at the time) upcoming grudge match. Well...we watched CSI on DVD instead, and didn't remember about the game until we heard gunshots and people screaming outside. In Greece, this normally (99%) of the time means the national team won something.
No good riots or anything though. Just a midday break and a chance for people to get on one of the 5 news stations covering people jumping up and down and waving Greek flags (see left) around. You could see people on their cell phones talking to someone who was telling them which direction the camera was in and where to wave. Kinda funny.
As Dutty said, this is good for basketball. The sport is becoming the second true international sport, next to football (the real kind).
Weird how Greece then got schooled by Spain though.
You think so. Everything I was reading seemed to be saying that Spain plays very similar to the US, but with a more international bent. IE, good shooting from the outside, and lots of passing as opposed to the 1v1 game the NBA seems to prefer.
Another question this bring up is, which do you prefer the single game for everything, or a long series to see which team is really the better team?
I stayed up and watched this game. Here are four simple rules, any one of which could have won them the game.
1 Defend the pick and roll
2 Make your free throws
3 Make your dunks!
4 When fouling to stop the clock, don't get called for an intenional foul
If I'd known it was harmless, I would have killed it myself

No problem. If it makes you feel better, in all this time I haven't realized there was a grammatical mistake in there.

Yeah I'm pretty sure there are no NFL teams in Brazil.
