Color me surprised. I might have to get this after all. G. Dawg. Yo.

Evil Avatar?!? Et tu, Lob?

Gametrailers also gave Saints Row a good reviews, stating pretty much what I expected, a competent if somewhat bland GTA clone with great graphics and multiplayer. Metacritic page where right now the critics like the game more than the gamers (usually the other way around).

I'll be renting it, I think. It's so much like GTA, I expect I'll be bored within about eight hours, since I've already played that game three times now

Since I enjoyed GTA: San Andreas how could I not enjoy this game.

I do like the idea of making the fugliest fattest wigga and then having everybody worship his gangsta prowness.

I like Evil Avatar. It got so much better after they got rid of that weird Canadian guy.

Yeah, I'll be getting this game too. Hopefully their will be some Goodjer Gangsta fun online. I really like the idea of being able to create your own gangs in the online too. Should be interesting.

The demo was pretty sweet and I'm glad that Rockstar finally has real competition for the GTA series.

I made a little game within the game. Get on the big open stretch of road by Forgive and Forget and try to pick off drivers with a pistol. Some will swerve immediately off the road and go nuts but a few will try to run you down so you have to get them before they get you.

It was suprisingly amusing for a couple of hours.

Its also fun to piss off the cops and another gang and go to that part of town because the Saints are swarming around there. Lots of big gun battles.

Maybe the fact that the game ain't released yet has to do with it? Just saying...

Edit: Or is it? Looks like Futureshop has it in stock. What the ?

I'll probably rent this too. The demo was pretty fun, but the huge inconsistency in the frame rates really bugged me. I hope they've optimized the engine a bit better in the final version. But multiplayer should definitely be a blast.

I like hearing its a product of Volition. Brings back memories of Freespace 1 and 2. Not sure if its the same company in spirit as back then, but I was always impressed with the quality of Volition titles in the past.

Gamefly seems to be shipping it today too. I hope they hurry up and get the game I sent in so I get in on the first batch.

Lord, get this little gameplay mode:

Sold.

I'm weak. Ok seriously, I promise this is the last game I buy before Gears of War. I think. $10 off at FutureShop right now if anyone cares

I caved. I bought it. Total impulse buy (I feel dirty) after practically colliding with a display chock full of Saint's Row right when you walk in. I got the token 5$ off at Bestbuy via the GamerCard. But its all MOOT, cause I was really headed there to get Chromehounds, thoroughly impressed by all the GWJer passion and drama for the game(CH) I've been reading on the boards. Two game boxes and a quick swipe of the debit card later, I was joining my wife in the car and greeting her with a nervous smile. After glancing down at my little yellow Best Buy bag, all she said was "You better say Thank you twice" as she revved the engine.

I would like to say the collapse of my willpower and the dual purchase is in some part GWJ's fault (particularly Chromehounds which I would've overlooked) so I better see a friend invite from one or two of you! I'm armed and dangerous for GR:AW, Chromehounds, or Saint's Row. err pretty please : )

I've found that GWJ is a very bad place to hang out if you have trouble with impulse purchases.

It really, really is. Especially when some jerk mentions it's $10 bucks off somewhere.

Blockbuster is holding a copy for me to rent, it's like $10 bucks US after tax but I bet it'll be the kind of game I only get a week or two out of anyways. I'm so used to Blockbuster getting games a few days later than stores, but lately they've been on the ball. It's nice to call them on release day and have them put aside a copy for rent, a great money saver.

It also doesn't hurt that their trade-in value on Ninety Nine Nights is about as much as you can sell it for on Ebay and more than EB offers.

Okay, mister "Why don't you have a 360, yet."

I couldn't care less about the thugaboo aspects of the game, but a light comparison to San Andreas about terrain would be appreciated. Is it varied? Interesting? Also how is the driving?

I'm sitting at work.. the still shrink wrapped box box sits next to me. Scanning the back cover, I notice one of its blurbs reads "
MAKE MONEY ANY WAY YOU CAN
The options are endless: from theft & insurance fraud to street racing and PIMPING"

Pimping! oh my.

No wonder I got carded(!) as I purchased it. The girl in the register said they card anyone who looks under FORTY. Ya know, she couldve at least made me happy and said they card anyone who looks under 30.....geez.

Hmm I dont get carded for games. Cigarettes, alcohol, and lottery tickets, yes- but not games..

The driving controls are nice and tight. A bug drives like a bug, an old caddy (style) drives like a boat and a sports car just feels powerful. Cant say about the terrain, still on the demo. The game is listed as 'Shipping' on gamefly.

Things I really like:
-aim anywhere while driving, not just out the sides
-Use any 1 handed weapon while driving, including molotovs and pipe bombs
-recruit on the fly. As you progress you can have more guys riding with you. Im not sure what the max is but for me, it leads to just playing the game, not doing missions or anything. Load up a car with troops and invade enemy territory for liquor and drug-fueled mayhem.
-keep your weapons when you die or go to jail
-restart missions from logical points if you fail, so you dont have to drive back to the start, start it again, and drive to the objective over and over if a mission is hard.
-hold up stores. Police response is logical. If there are customers that you let get away, the police are alerted. If you dont take out the store owner, they'll alert the police, so if you do it right you can actually get away with some crime. Also, dont forget to shoot the cash register.

Yeah it was kinda ridiculous. They only did it cause it was a system prompt and the register girl had a trainer watching over her. The trainers official line was:
"We do this in case you were mistakenly buying it for a minor. It's the law."

I almost gagged but instead I put on my 'in-deep thought' look for a moment as I stroked the stubble on my cheeks and then nodded agreement.

Best Buy cares about THE CHILDREN. I am very moved.

OK, I caved. $50 with free 3-day shipping is too good to pass up on a game that's getting such high ratings.

One question for anyone that's actually got it... Can you get dreadlocks? Not cornrows, full-on dreadlocks, mon.

Agreed. Luckily the fact that I am moving out has curbed a lot of the impulse purchases. I played the demo and decided that while it was decent game, I could wait till it goes down in price.

Here's my burning question... it remains burning because reviews suck at reviewing online parts of games:

Can 2 (or more) players simply play co-op?

Rent it on Gamefly and you can probably get it with the 'keep' option for around $50 and they'll ship it for free!!

What's this about a "Gamercard" discount at Best Buy?

Can 2 (or more) players simply play co-op?

Probably not in the way you want, there are different game modes. You can't play the main game with 2 players co-op. Read the IGN review. He goes over all the game modes.

You can buy those pre-paid cards at Best Buy, you know, the ones you can put money on and give as a gift to someone. One is a gamer card. They have them near the registers and the gamer card is blue. It comes in a clear cd case You just put money on it 20$ or whatever you want to. Experienced folks know exactly how much for a game normally priced at 19.99 or 29.99 etc. It comes with a coupon in the case for 5 dollar off any game or accessory 19.99+. The card itself is free, you are just putting money on it to activate it and get the coupon too.

So, basically you buy yourself a gamer card. Go outside the store, take out the card and the coupon(on the back of the blue insert) from the case. Dump your trash. Head back in and buy the 19.99+ game or accessory you wanted. Instant 5 dollars off. And its nothing sneaky either, just requires you go through line twice. Ballsy folks buy the card and then immediately buy the game while at the same register. I go outside once.

The Best Buy folks are used to it, its their system and it basically gives you 5 dollars off. Only items it may not work on is those that are already on sale. Not sure if the coupon works on sale price items. Probably depends on the person at the register.

So for example, Tomb Raider Legends for the 360 recently had a price drop(not sale) to 29.99 at Bestbuy. Using the gamercard coupon (and the money you put on the gamer card itself) it will cost you 24.99 plus tax.

For a full priced XBOX 360 game, its just a drop in the 60 dollar bucket. But when used on something in that 19.99 - 29.99 price range, you get a bit more satisfaction. Thing is, you can use this on basically any 360 accessory / game purchase at this point.
