Ian "Podunk" Dorsch GWJ Compilation Now Available!

Section:

Since launching Gamers With Jobs Radio five years ago we've been treated to some amazing music by Ian Dorsch. His tunes have been a staple of the GWJ podcasts and had a big hand in defining them long before even we knew what they were all about. Lucky for us, we finally have a way to give back to Ian in thanks for all the excellent work he's done for the show and the community. His company, Willow Tree Audioworks, has released some of the very best tracks he's laid down over the years along with an extended version of our newest opening song.

A note from Ian: It is fitting that my first release via this site should be a compilation of music from Gamers With Jobs podcasts. When I began to work with Russ Pitts on GWJ Radio, I had largely forgotten what it was like to make music for fun. In a significant way, collaborating with Russ and Shawn and interacting with the fantastic community at GWJ helped me to rediscover why I became a musician in the first place. Thanks, guys. This is for you.

My personal favorite has got to be "Podunk Stomp" by a landslide. No man, woman or child can listen to it and not want to leave all their earthly possessions behind, move into the woods and bang rocks together all day. Do yourself a favor, hit the website and download the album Ian has put together for the community. In return for this musical bounty, please donate whatever you can afford so he knows we love him and he'll continue to rock our faces off for years to come.

Well, yeah, the chicks are significant too.

Well, that was a long time ago. Wife and kids keep me in check (and low on cash) now. Still able to donate a bit. Thanks again.

GOD how I wish I could play guitar (or any cool instrument).

Awesome work Podunk! I have several long work days ahead of me, and I am looking forward to using your tracks as my theme music!

Right on, I hope it makes a fitting soundtrack.

So Pod, are you ever going to release a full version of "Los Pistoleros", I would gladly pay money for that single.

I would like to! That's one of the tracks that basically needs to be reconstructed from the ground up. It was recorded in an old version of Sonar, which I haven't used for a few years now, and I'm sure if I went back and tried to bring the tracks over that I would drive myself crazy listening to imperfections in the guitar and bass parts. So I pretty much need to record a new, extra-awesome version in Cubase.

That said, it's near the top of the list for my CD project.

Wow! That guitar solo on GWJ2010 is totally channeling Eric Johnson.

Love all of 'em. WANT MOAR.

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

I am glad you think so, because he is the guy I was most attempting to rip off in that tune.

Weird, Podunk isn't a toothless hillbilly. But then, I'm not Liz Hurley, or an Elf.

Downloaded and about to give the tunes a spin, I'm sure I will find some loose change to send your way soon Podunk.

Never noticed the banjo in the 2010 theme until now (well, Monday). Listening to the Conference Call today I can just barely hear it peaking its head out every now and again. Sigh. 80kbps.

All this music, and the new Deftones and Muses latest album are making my hands itch.

I must get a guitar to USB interface.

The toothless hillbilly is kind of like my spirit guide.

If I'm remembering correctly, when I was asking Certis for some guidelines on the new theme, one of the few pointers he offered was that "banjo is always good." It's subtle compared to say, Podunk Stomp, but there is still a satisfying dollop of banjo in there.

BANJO METAL!!!!!

Love it

Top notch stuff.

How much to we have to collect to get a 3+ minute version of the Podunk Stomp in all of it's banjo metal glory?

Believe me, I've given it some serious thought. I'm a little afraid that I'll somehow spoil it if I go back and extend it.

Count me in with the folks who would love to hear a long version of the Stomp. As for the rest of it, it's as fantastic as anything you've written, which is to say it's freaking fantastic. Keep it up!

Thanks man, I really appreciate it.

This is some fantastic stuff. I also nabbed the Zero Punctuation track as well (I wasn't aware you also did his theme) Great job.

Hey, Ian, thanks for the great tunes. As a big fan of Joe Satriani (and Rush tunes like the Trees, Jacob's Ladder, & YYZ), I love instrumental rock. The musical range of the tunes is impressive, you're not stuck in a single groove.

The only tune I have a bit of trouble with is the medley. Listening too it is like eating a single chocolate chip and throwing the rest of the bag out the window: I want the entire original song, but I can't have it! It leaves me wanting more.

Keep up the great music.

BTW, was Angry German Guy Mix inspired by Techno Viking?

Thanks for the kind words, dudes.

Huge enormo-thanks to the Goodjers who have donated. Personal thank-yous will be going out this week.

It wasn't, but it should have been!

It made me think of a live performance I heard by Deep Purple. Steve Morse was playing guitar for them at the time, sometime in the late nineties.

It took nearly 10 minutes to get into the song because they kept playing these intros for various huge songs, I can't remember many, but Whole Lotta Love was one of them. Eventually it settled down into Smoke on the Water. It was f**king incredible.

The medley makes me think of that.

Whoa, that's the second Techno Viking reference I've seen today. But it's not 2012 yet!?! He's coming back too early! Oh noes!

Except not nearly as awesome!

I need to track down that recording, that sounds amazing. Steve Morse kicks ass.

Let me just say that Podunk Stomp is a personal favorite of mine and Samarra is a close runner-up.

Wish I could help with more info, but I heard it on the radio a loooooong time ago.

Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and Wishbone Ash are touring here soon. Got to get to that show.

Will somebody put me out of my misery and tell me what the ripped-off song at ~2:20 (after Enya) in the Rip-Off Medley is? My WoW-addled brain is drawing a blank.

Great work Podunk!

Thanks!

It's Don't Fear the Reaper, btw.
