Anybody play EVE Online?

Rybowl,

I'll try to remember to send you a message for the GWJ channel, but you can email me as Taikuo or Kuotai if you like.

Remember that you can train one character at a time on your account.

With the ships, what you do is to buy the shuttle, use it and then put it up for sale at the station (if you think you will not need it later). Once you get larger capacity ships, you can carry a shuttle back if you feel the need, but they are plentiful and cheap.

The implant comes by following one of the storylines established through the agents you met. It's maybe ten or twenty missions in.

Robear,
I sent you an evemail for a channel invite late last night. Thanks for the tip on the shuttle. And I guess I'm still on track for the implant then. Didn't get that far into it last night.

Hey, welcome to Eve Rybowl! I started playing the game like a month ago and I'm having a lot of fun in it. If there's anything I could help you with, just let me know... The game has a huge learning curve and I still have one billion questions in my head. My char name is KillTrash and I'm usually online everynight. And if you see me in GWJ channel and don't answer you back it's because I stay AFK a lot but I will eventually get back to you hehe.

Hey folks,

Just started playing Eve again. I could use a good corp. My game name is Jerc Star.

Look me up sometime.

I just started a 14 day trial a couple of days ago and... I kind of feel {ableist slur}. I went all the way through the tutorial (sweet Jesus I didn't know it'd take 5 hours- finished at 4AM!), bought a Condor, and have finished enough missions to get my implant- which I can't even freakin' USE because I don't have the cybernetics skill, which isn't even listed on my skill sets on the character sheet? What the ...?

Also, I feel a little directionless. Mining just seems flat out boring to me, and I've heard that you can get missions hunting for pirate npcs. Where do these missions come from, other agents in other stations? How do I know if I stand a chance against them?

Where should I go from here?

Hlp plz Im a noob lolol omg omg oneoneone.

Sincerely,

A very frustrated Jeb Carbine <---Space Cowboy, at large. Send evemails if you're inclined, and I'd love an invite to the chat channel. Thank you kindly.

Hey Jeb,

I'm pretty new as well. So, I've been going through very similar things as yourself. What the heck do I want to do in this game?

For your skill training, you need to buy skill books. You can get them from your starting academy station for the most part. You can learn anything on any of the required items, it just might take you awhile. I wouldn't worry about getting the implant skills right away.

The best place to start is the getting the learning skills after you get about 120k ISK. There is a book to increase memory (Instant Recall), intelligence (Analytic Mind) and learning (Learning). The cycle is Lvl 1 Memory, Lvl 1 Intelligence, Lvl 1 Learning, repeat through at least level 3. It will really reduce your training time.

I went through and got some cheap books to do little things to my ship as well, like Afterburner and Hull Upgrades so I could equip some new modules.

The missions either pop up from Storyline NPC's, or you can just Dock in a station and see if there is an Agent available to you. Talk to them, and they will give you a mission. I know some types of agents give primarily Combat missions, but I don't know exactly which ones they are. But if they have a title like, Transportation Manager or something, they probably give Courier missions.

Send a message to one of the names listed in here as game names, and someone will set you up with the chat channel. Hope this helps, if I totally missed what you were looking for, then you can try asking again.

You buy them from the various academy stations. If you go on the market, you should be able to browse under 'skills & implants'. Warning: If you see a skill book(s) for less than everywhere else, be careful! Do _not_ buy them if they're in a low-sec system. They are put there as traps to lure new players looking to save a few thousand isk. Before I buy something, I always right-click, set-destination, and then check the map. If it's leading me to a low-sec, I don't buy there.

Missions are from agents. You can see what agents are available to you by opening the map with F10, opening the control panel (on a right-click, if it's not already open), choosing display options tab, then the stars tab. About 10-15 items down, there's a button for 'My Corpmates/My Gangmates/My Agents'. Choose my agents, and any star that has an agent you can use will be lit green. (bigger = more/higher quality.)

Take note of what agent you want, and what station it's in, then set that as your destination, auto-pilot there, dock, and chat with the agent for missions.

For kill/combat missions you want agents of the type:
Command, Surveillance, Security, Internal Security

Your best bet will be for the Navy of whatever race you are. You probably have some standing with them already, and they'll have a lot of Command/Security agents available.

This game looks a little interesting, and I might try a trial run once my system is back online. Realistically though, I've quit every other MMO I've ever played within days. Would this one prove to be different?

That would depend on why you quite the other MMO's. As with most MMO's its all a question of how much you like the people you meet in game. And how much fun you have while playing, when you normal friends aren't around. Because of the way the skill system works, you don't really have to worry much about a disparity in "levels" making it so you can't group with your friends who play 10x more than you.

Jeb,

Also, you might check out how much your implant is worth on the market. Mine was worth a few million isk, so I pitched it and bought a nice ship instead.

It's a nice boost in the beginning of the game.

I played for a little while, but haven't booted it back up in a few weeks. Maybe I should.. hm..

It is a damn good game.

Do it! I'm on most nights. I haven't ran into any other GWJers, though Robear and I have emailed back and forth.

I also have some questions. First off, I'm piloting a Tristan and running kill missions. I think I'd like to get back to mining simply because I love the rush of mining in the lower sec zones. Which is a good miner to start with? I have about 2.5 million I can spend.

Also, are kill missions more lucrative than mining?

I started playing EVE a few weeks ago as well. (I was actually in the original beta, but was pretty heavily involved in DAoC at the time, then WoW.) I'm Dethanc in game. I've been trying to get into EVE University, but they're still at war, despite having left their alliance. For the time being, I'm just running missions, about to get a Caracal and train microwarpdrives. For anyone else that's new, I recommend joining the EVE University public channel. Helpful and not so much noise as the regular help channels.

Guys if u want tips on how to play... we have a ingame channel for GWJ's or you can convo me ingame.

Either convo Xilo or Xilox and i would love to help you out as i have now played for 2,5 years, and know alot of the tricks. I have also posted some tips further up in this thread. I suggest you read those tips, and other tips from more experienced players.

However i might not have time to talk to you as i am one of the leaders of a large ingame alliance. We are unfortunantly under heavy attack by another alliance in 0,0, and have battles almost 23/7 now. They are trying to take our home in 0,0... The Tribute region, but they won't get it. So far they have wasted assets worth around 20-25 billions in their attack.

Don't let them take you Xilo. Hit them where it hurts. Ra ra sis boom ba.

Leaving on vacation and am wound up this afternoon. Good luck.

Well, I try to be helpful. And I have more free time in game at the moment compared to Xilo. Been playing for about 6 months, have picked up a lot of info after moving out to low sec after 4 days into the game, 0.0 after 3 weeks and my corpmates are awesome with the info.

I can be found along with Taikuo and the rest in the GWJ channel. Join in, ask questions and don't mind if no one answers right away. EVE is very afk friendly and I take advantage of that fact. I will be not very busy for the rest of the week, but Friday is our big move to our new alliance and I'll probably be in heavy action in there again. My corp, metaforge, is joining Knights of the Southerncross who are currently in a several-month war with Red Alliance (KILL THE RUSSKIES!) as well as some pirates and empire wars.

In the meantime, I've been helping out random new people in The Forge and Citadel. It's surprising how even 0.0 corps can't give their newer players some help *cough* ISS *cough*.

Oh, and I'm also on a lonewolf crusade to terrorize the new owners of Catch region after they took it from my previous alliance.

I should be playing a bit more next week, and will try and spend the time in empire, since I do need to get my production back up and running after spending so much time away, if anyone wants help doing things from running missions to mining to just general questions.

I hope all goes well with you Xilo, I'd love to come up and try and help you guys out a bit but since we left cDc a few days ago I don't know what the standings are like.

Fstata, good luck with the new alliance. Hopefully you'll have better luck then I've been having. Although I do admit I like the political aspect of the game.

If you going to be mining in low sec space, I'd try out a scimitar or an osprey, if you want to just stick with gallent ships the thorax is pretty good so is the vexor if you are using mining drones. I'm suggesting cruisers assuming that you are more worried about npc rats than pvp rats. If your going full ninja mining then of course just stay with a navitus. Kill missions eventually get to be more lucrative than mining in empire, but it takes a while to get to that point. At one point I was earning around 5-10 mil an hour not counting minerals from recycled look.

Eve is very much a place where having money makes more money faster.

Currently in game - had an account for a while now - still feel the need to go back to it every so often - part of a mini corp but have a few assets

In game is Lagrange btw

Screw this mining crap. It's time to live up to my in-game name (Jerc Star). I want to go all out PvP (solo pirating) and I need your help to do it.

Right now I'm a Gallente flying a Tristan outfitted with two hybrid rail guns. What skills should I focus on? What ships should I get?

Any advice would be appreciated, and I promise to spare you all.

Heh...Don't fly anything you can't afford to replace, multiple times.

Isn't that what insurance is for? I've got platinum coverage, baby!

Insurance only really covers the cost of the ship, not the mods on the ship nor the cost of re-insuring the ship. Although this does depend on your shiptype.

First off, you'll need to be able to use webbifies, and warp disruptors. Second, you'll need bm's for the region(s) you want to haunt. Thrid, be prepared to die lots so remember to update your clone all the time. Fourth, the best ships for pirating seem to be either the Tristan, Incursis, or Dominix (its a bs in case you didn't know). Fifth, I wouldn't try for the "emipre choke" points, I'd haunt a few jumps further in if your going to try 0.0 space, you'll have an easier time with finding solo miners/haulers/ratters. Sixth, I'd start by looking for people in <0.4 space at the belts don't fire at anyone at gates/stations in anything other than 0.0 because the sentries will own you unless your in a well tanked bs. Seventh, even if you want to be a pirate I'd try and join a corp. Things are just easier because you will have more intel, and usually cheaper ships/mods.

Thats about all I can think of atm.

Pirating is cool, but not very profitable

If you want a target rich environment, try Pure Blind, from Maut to MQ-. You might have some competition from the Empire Mafia corp or from NUBS... or you can get killed by us, Metaforge (we still fly patrols there when we're REALLY bored) but that's going to be really rare...

If you want, I can give you a freelance merc contract. I'd pay 1 mil for each corpse of a certain person that regularly flies that route I listed above. He's mostly always in an industrial. Let me know if you're interested

I'm interested!! I'll contact you in game.

I'm now hooked. Robear, I sent you a request for the GWJ chat channel, but I'll accept from anyone. Character name: Montalas.

Right now I'm just having a blast mining in my new frigate. So that tells you how much of a n00b I still am.

Great to have you Montalban. If you're not in chat, I'll send you an evemail. And I've gone from mining to a bit of missioning and am currently back at mining. It's great to get a bit of a feel for the game at least. I think with all of us relatively new people around, we are going to drive the veterans crazy with questions, but as usual, the GWJers are super helpful and friendly.

Well I finally was able to get on, and be in empire for a while. So I invited Montalban to join me in a missions in Olo. I'm planning on doing some more this evening starting around 9pm EDT, if anyone else wants to join in. And I'd be happy to answer any question I can about the game.

Get into the GWJ channel then, so that we can help out

I unfortunantly dont have the orginal eve mail with the info anymore....
