I am lately hooked playing Sourceforts a HL2 mod, wich is great..
The mod is a 50% CTF , 50% Build your own base
Have a look at the promotional video they did, wich resumes the game.
I think a GWJ night of this could be quite entertaining.
Anybody else?
My ping to New York is 100 ms... On a good day, that.
Curses.
That's actually not that bad.
Not per se, but I don't want to allow even the possibility to think about whining because of ping. Also, one high ping player can screw up the whole server. That's why I never played with GWJ crew so far.
But, by Odin, things will change one day. Oh, they will.
Patient am I.
Wow, I like that video. It's very straight and to the point.

Seems just yesterday when we had 56k modems and anything under 300 was gravy.
Video seems interesting. I would however like to see a little more out of the build phase than drop barracade here.
It sounds like a fun time to me. Maybe an event??
Wow, this looks pretty damn cool. Maybe we can give it a whirl on Sunday?
I'd be pretty interested in this. Seems like a neat idea.
That sounds awesome. Get me to finally buy HL2 awesome.
And wait - it alternates build, fight, build, fight? It's Ramparts the FPS!!!
Anything that gets Lupus to put down his crowbar, especially for a whole 500 seconds, has my vote. Also, yes: EVENT!

Yes! I loved Rampart! You nailed what I was thinking watching that video, but I couldn't place it at the time.
Say when!
(For my ally is the Calendar, and a POWERFUL ally it is. Smart Goodjers post events on it, make it grow. Its events call to us, and compel us. Disorganized beings are we, not capable of spontaneous gaming. You must use the Calendar to the left side of the page.)
Just gave this a run on one of the public servers running. It's pretty fun just to try building various structures.
One thing I didn't realize was that it has different classes a little along the lines of team fortress. There's Scout, Soldier, Engineer, Sniper, and ... there might be one more, but I don't recall.
Looks to have plenty of potential for GWJ'er tomfoolery
Scout, Soldier, Engineer, Sniper, and ... there might be one more, but I don't recall.Rocketeer, the one with big bazooka on shoulder
Ah, I knew I was forgetting one of them. Kind of had them and Soldiers metally grouped together. Thanks.
You can't just use HL2DM can you? Gotta have HL2?
I tried to install it but it just makes a shortcut to My Computer on the desktop and adds nothing to the Steam Games list. Is there a trick or something I'm not aware of with Steam?
EDIT: Nevermind, you just have to fiddle with the HL2DM shortcut. Now for figuring out how to build.
EDIT: Sourceforts is crazy-delicious. I'd definitely be up for some GWJ action here.
HL2DM: is this something that comes with HL2, or is purchased separately, or what?
It comes with HL2, Episode 1, and other stuff apparently. If you get Steam by itself is it free to download?
I just spent waaay too much time playing that. I blame kabutor.
How was it?
How was it?
So beautiful... they should have sent a poet. Seriously, this is to be checked out. I can't really put into words how well the building part works and how statically stale this makes other games feel by comparison. The tactical ramifications of ramparts, ramps, walls, cubbyholes, bridges, etc. that can change on the fly are dauntingly awesome.
Agreed, the possibilties are very, very interesting. While the manuevering of the building items/blocks can be difficult and frustrating, if you have a good team you can get a couple of master builders constructing while the rest of the team becomes the supply chain. Team work is essential. Think I shall go play some more.
We should pick a server and get some teamwork down over Teamspeak.
This looks totally awesome. I love HL2 and everything that it makes possible.
EDIT: Previously on LA Law, I had quoted my entire post from above about using the calendar. Then what to my wondering eyes should appear but an event on that calendar! YAUS!
I had a great time playing a match of Sourceforts with the goodgers last summer. That said, some news on version 2.0.0.
Looks tasty. Anyone still interested in this mod?
