Anybody play EVE Online?

And know of a player corp worth joining?

I'm looking for one with no immature 12 year olds running around going "lol ur nub" and stupid sh*t like that. I figured this would be a good place to check.

PM sent

There were actually a number of Eve Online threads here a few months back. I got bored and cancelled last month. I'm not sure how many others are still playing. I may pick it back up again after the kali expansion.

Zaque and I still play, although I think Zaque is occupied with life things at the moment. I am in-game as Taikuo. Send me a mail if Karma did not send the GWJ channel pw. (Heck, Karma, if you don't have it, send me one as well.) We get a few people talking sometimes in the channel.

Farscry, you still play? Have not heard from you lately.

Ah no, I sent him info for the TOG corp. Although they recently joined ASCN and moved to 0.0 space, so it may not be in the best interest for someone totally new. (although there are a couple of TOG player run empire corps)

I recently quit as well. I just joined out to help in PvP with the corp but the time in between that cripples the game for me.

Well, I'm still building up skills, looking at getting Exhumers and maybe BC stuff going. Haven't started with the pvp stuff yet, or trading or anything like that. So I still have a lot to learn.

Cyn, if you want, send Taikuo your info in-game. I am in a corp that functions in Caldari space and also 0.0 systems. It's pretty laid back.

I started playing EVE 4 days ago with two other friends and I'm really enjoying the whole Sci-Fi feel of the game. Actually, this is the third time I'm trying EVE. The first time I tried it was when it came out. I had a really crappy computer and the game would not run well on it and I was also too addicted to Anarchy Online at the time. Second time I had a really great computer but I could not get into the game because WoW had my soul. I didn't even get past the tutorials.

This time I'm in for real. I'm really tired of the whole fantasy theme and EVE just sounds great now that I have the time to play it and also got two good friends of mine with me. I've been reading so much stuff about the game in the past 4 days that just now I realize how cool EVE is! I like the fact that it's more complex than other games I played in the past.

I started a Civire Caldari named KillTrash. Right now I'm raising all my Learning skills and just mining to get a better Frigate (piloting a Bantam now) to run missions and Pirate hunt.

PS: I'm a new face here, but I actually follow the website and forums since it was opened couple years back... Actually, been following Certis since he used to post in EvilAvatar, but just now I registered myself in the Forums.

Yeah i have played for 2 years now, and my main has 30 mil SP. ... In this time i have done almost everything this game has to offer, Carebearing, running poses(star bases), being a mercenary and pirate, I have also fought and commanded huge battles with 300+ players involved.

I am now trying to earn enough money in game to enable my character to take the next step, flying capital ships. (Those ships and skills are seriously expensive)

A couple of staring tips:

*Do the tutorial, you will get a nice implant + good standing with one side by doing it.
Get your learning skills up fast (also the advanced learning skills)
*Find out what aspect you like about the game and specialize, you can get your character up to a respectable level quite fast. When your charather are there, spezialize again.
*Think BIG, start multible accounts. Get a hauler character trained, industrial char. You need the extra support, and if you have a decent PC you will be able to run multible accounts on it in windowed mode, this means that you will be able to earn isks faster..
*Join a established corperation, with older charaters running it. Eve University is a recommended corp. Learn all you can in that corp, and then you can think about starting your own corp.
*Have patience. Because of the skill system and the way this game is built, skill training, and isk takes time. much time, But in the end the wait is worth it.
*Don't go to 0,0 until you have at least enough money to replace the ship you are flying. Being just able to fly a Battleship (BS) does not mean that you should, are able to hunt/mine in 0,0, you also need your backup skills trained, and you need to do your homework on who is inhabitating the region, sort out bookmarks++ .
*And the final warning. Do not fly a ship you can't afford to loose, in risky regions/PVP situations.

My corp (Rage of Angels, ROA) don't recruit players with less than 8-10 mil SP (almost all need to be in Pvp skills, sadly we dont have any space for "carebears"), and you need to be totaly selfsufficient (Can afford to loose multible BS's, if needed) If you think you can hack it convo me as its one of the best pvp corps in game atm, in my own, and others humble opinion We are mostly Euro based

Ingamenick: Xilo
Start a ingame convo with me, if you are just starting up, and need some more tips on how to proceed.

Yes I still play, atlhough I just don't have enough time to do much in game lately. I'll have to agree with Xilo completely on when to do different things in game. The most important part of eve is the corp/alliance you are in. Try and start with a corp that really like and helps new players. And don't feel bad if you change 3-5 corps in the first month finding a place that you feel comfortable. You'll find out that like ROA, most big corps in game (especially pvp corps) won't recuite people till they have a certain amount of sp's. I know the corp that I'm in (Chosen Path, CHSN) doesn't take people with less than 1-2mil sp's, but we are more of a do everything corp than ROA is.

If any new players want/need a loan contact me ingame (Zaque Zundu).

And Xilo we should get together at some point and camp p3 or m-0.

I'm still paying my subscription fee and logging in once in a while to change skills but I'm taking a short break from EVE. Great game though.

I know nearly nothing about EVE Online, but from reading this thread it sounds like a massively multiplayer version of Privateer...?

I played for about 2/3 months. Things were cooking along pretty good. I joined a corp called shattered light and got my skills up pretty good. I even scored a full set of the best implants you can get. The problem came when they guy in charge of the r & d group I was working in stopped giving out work. Eventually he just vanished altogether. Then a short time afterward the whole corp tried to move out into alliance space. Our POS was eventually destroyed and the corp fell apart.

Fedaykin, Eve has around four or five focuses - mining, trading/hauling, missions, manufacture/research and pvp. That's my current take on things. Within those general areas there are hundreds of skills to learn, and these give you access to more and more interesting technology - ships, ship devices, blueprints, skill enhancements, all sorts of things with which to outfit yourself, your ship, make money, build things and support them. The game is played in your ship as you fly around, and in stations where you can perform many tasks like manufacturing.

Skill gains are real-time. You can train one skill per *account* (rather than per character) and that skill trains in real time at a speed that is based on your character's stats and the level of the skill. So a level one skill in small projectile turrets might take anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes to get, and will let you mount basic projectile turrets on a ship. Level II might take 30 minutes to an hour and a half. Level three, maybe 6 or 8 hours. At level five, you've maxed that skill; there may be a second skill that follows on that with even longer training times. Also, many skills have multiple pre-requisites. Even if you log out, skills train - but you can't queue them up. If your skill finishes at 2am and you can't log in till 8am, you'll lose that 6 hours of possible training.

So you have to balance your skills according to your immediate and long-term goals. You'll need one set of skills to be able to fly a better ship, and another set to get access to industrial ships which will increase your mining take, and yet another set to efficiently harvest and refine minerals, and another set to influence the npc's who give you missions, and then you may have your eye on some science skills for research....All of this needs to be managed one at a time.

Then while the skills are training, you play with your current equipment. Run missions and mine for loot, locate npcs in corps that can help you gain rep to get better missions and rewards, put in your time to contribute to the corp, all sorts of tasks need to be done. It's a great system, in that you can multitask while playing the game, and if you don't log in for a week...Just set a long skill and don't worry about it, it's not like Star Wars Galaxies where your stuff will shut down without maintenance (well, except for very high-end stuff like pos's, but that's late-game material). I'm enjoying it greatly.

I will take the names from here and invite them to the GWJ channel in-game this evening, if someone has not done that already. I'm in a mining and industrial corp, and while that's carebear, for right now that's what I need. As I get more money and more experience, I'll shift over to a more pvp corp like Zaque's, maybe, and open up a new part of the game for myself. This is one of the few games where you determine what your overall experience will be like.

Like Zaque, if anyone needs a loan or some company on missions, I'm happy to oblige. Taikuo is my name in-game.

I beta'ed Eve, and recently took advantage of a free 14 days of play. I really enjoyed my time there, and the music and general ambience is fantastic. It's certainly a unique gaming experience, and the universe is VAST.

In 14 days I managed to earn over 3 million isk, in part by selling the implant I got by doing the tutorial. Maybe I shouldn't have sold it, but it sure got me a nicer ship.

Anyway, the biggest problem I had with the game was trying to decide what I wanted to focus on. I wasn't interested in having multiple accounts or anything like that. The game is so vast, it's really difficult to settle on a focus of play.

I let my account expire, but sometimes I think I would like to start it up again. If there are enough GWJers interested, perhaps I'd get back into it.

Feral, if you find a good corp, you won't care whether the rest of us are playing. You'll have a good community, and that's what counts. We have the GWJ channel, but most of us are spread between at least three unrelated corps. Just a thought.

3 million isk in two weeks is not at all bad for a beginning character. Heck, early frigates go for like 15k or 25k.

Robear you forgot to mention that you can change skill training at anytime without loosing any of your "learned" points in the skill. That makes it much easier when the skill your working on finishes at 2am, just switch to a different skill that won't finish for a while, and then change back when you online to the first skill to finish it up.

Hey Robear, I'd really like that invite for GWJ channel too. I got tired of the Rookie Help channel and my 2 RL friends are on vacation, so it's kinda boring with no one to talk when I'm just mining.

I payed the $19 for the game last night, even though my Trial didn't finish. Eve really got me.

Like I said, all I'm doing is mining while I raise the rest of my learning skills. Got to 4 million ISK last night with my Bantam. I really don't know if that's a lot. Well, Merlin, the next frigate I plan on buying to run missions costs around 200K ISKs, so I think I'm good for a while. It Should take 4 more days to have my Frigate and Missile Launcher skills up to start using my Merlin. Just can't wait to start turning some Pirates into metal scrap!

Heh patience my friend......

If you want to get into pvp this early, i suggest you train up to fly a tackler..... (Webber and warp scrambler and micro warp drive)(The frig must have 3 midslots), then you are to be usefull in combat. Heck even i have died to a relative "noob" with less than 1 mil sp, that attacked me when i wasn't ready..... (main has 30 mil sp) Thats one of the things i love about this game... Even relative new characthers do have a fighting chance against a old geezer like me....... If they know what they are doing , and catch me when i am not prepared.. (even though i will still probably will win 8 out of 10 times) Try to do that in other games

One thing more...... Eve is a game full of scammers+++, and alot of ingame "scamming" techiques are allowed, aka corp theft+++. Therefore be VERY carefull about who you trust.... give assets to and so on......

Xilo, did you get the GWJ channel info? If not, let me know whether you are just plain "Xilo" or a variant, in-game. I was not 100% sure and didn't want to send to the wrong person.

I'm gonna start a second character this weekend, if I get time. Work up to doing my own hauling and mining lol.

plain Xilo

I am pretty sure the other char are scam attemts as i was quite high up in old Fountain Alliance, and is now quite high in the RAWR..... Stupid idiots......

Btw camped M-O yesterday for about 30 min..... 5 kills

Yeah, actually that's what I had in mind. I've been seen some player made videos from Eve-Files and I saw that a lot of people use that set up and seems to work well. Now I just need to decide wich one will be my first frigate, Merlin, Tritan or Rifter.

*edit* and I don't know what's wrong with the quote thing! (fixed :P)

I have a Vigil that I can set up to be a tackler (well, I don't have micro-warp yet, but still...). I also run it as a small freighter to pick up purchases. I put an AB on it and I can just about 1000m/s out of the thing.

I'm still very leery of pvp for some reason. Maybe losing three ships in one week as I was getting back into the game did it.

Now I just need to decide wich one will be my first frigate, Merlin, Tritan or Rifter.

Rifter if u want to go the tackler way

Rifter all the way, it's a tremendously useful frigate. And if you get Minnie frigate up to 5, the interceptor (Stiletto) and the assault frigs (jaguar/wolf) are some of the best out there.

Hey guys, sorry I didn't reply sooner. I checked back after a few hours and saw no replies so I just sort of assumed nobody still played.

I'm not a total newbie. I played last October, but was frustrated right out of the game when one guy in an interceptor podded my two friends and I (in cruisers!).

But I finally got over that and restarted.

Now I'm up to battleships (barely). Currently flying a Megathron right now but I have a Ferox too. (yes that's Caldari and Gallente!) I just found the raven too abysmally ugly to stand. But after my lvl 3/4 mission experiences with turrets I'm damn near ready to use the ugly f*cker anyway just because it's a missile boat.

I'm giving the megathron another serious try now (railguns & major armor hardeners) before I throw in the towel on the megathron as a mission runner.

If anybody wants to say hi (or sell me some Lonetrek instas) my in game name is Xaen.

Buy the bmms from postpatchbmking he has good bms

I believe Queeny B (Queenie Bee? Something like that, I just heard the name over vent) has quality BMs as well. At least the ones I've been using for Khanid have been excellent.

And careful in that mega BSes are great for missioning (you can snooze through most lvl 3s in them), but in 0.0 or low sec by a belt, you're pure gank bait if solo. Especially if you've only recently gotten into it.

Feel free to drop a line to Coran Ordus in game, if you're looking for a corp.

Oh, and you might want to avoid Lonetrek... the Caldari low-sec/no-sec areas in general are more dangerous, because there's so many Caldari newbs around to kill. I can sell you a cheap set of instas to get you out into high-sec Solitude (relatively safe low sec, and omber galore in the high sec), or you can check out Khanid, it's _relatively_ safe around there. Not totally safe, but much better than the north.

Wow, I thought this was the WOW forum?

At any rate, I know Vrikk was interested in the game but I haven't spoken to him since he first showed interest. Xilo, say hi to Neresky from us over at Metaforge.

I'd like an invite to the GWJ channel as well, if you guys don't mind. Promethean Starter is the name, Corp is Metaforge, formerly of Ekliptika, now in Huzzah Federation, waist-deep in hostile pilots.

As for the new players: multiple accounts really help. I opted not to go that route. I make my money by trading/hauling goods. With the money I make off the hauling, I PVP. I'm a tackler/scout.

Hauling in 0.0 for your miner corp buddies actually makes a decent amount of cash. At this point, I can fly Transport Ships which have better survivability in deepspace than the regular Industrials. It only takes about 5 days to get a decent hauler setup. You can also make your way early on as a trader; buy low, sell high. But the biggest money making runs I've done are private contracts. Some nice people occassionally ask me to transport stuff from 0.0 to empire and sell stuff there in exchange for a nice commission. I made 50 mil in 10 minutes that way.

I am currently #2 on our corp killboard since our corp joined Huzzah Federation. I did that with very cheap ships: a merlin (t1 level4 caldari frigate) and a blackbird (t1 level2 caldari cruiser). Nowadays, I'm all about the tech2 frigates.

All in all, the barriers to entry are pretty low to the fun stuff but it's critical to find a good corp.

Just sent you an EveMail, Fstarta.

Just created a character last night on trial. Actually, created three because I kept going too far on the character creation screen. Anyway, Khianna Rotale is now learning the ropes of spaceflight. I was under the impression that I should be training my learning skills, but then I found that it costs a lot of money to buy the initial books. Well, at least more than I had last night.

I bought a ship, well, there was a good price so I bought two, thinking that I could shuttle there, then put the shuttle in the hold and fly back, but I'm thinking that the shuttle is too big for the starting fighter. Oh well. If there is a way to do this, I would like to know. (Saw someone wanting to pay 29,000 and I could buy it for 20,000 so I got an extra to sell.) No biggy if it doesn't work out.

Not sure when you're supposed to get the implant, but I think I finished all of the training missions and I didn't get one. The game seems like a lot of fun though.
