GWJ Chromehounds

I'm in Morskoj, which looks like our capital's going to get squashed, so I'll switch to the Wiener Bombers when that happens. In the meantime, I'll just make money and build 'Mechs.

There's only 3 spots left in the squad, we're definately going to end up with more people playing than can fit

I suppose we'll have to split into 2 groups if that happens, which will make it tougher for pickup matches and I doubt we'll have 40 players to fill up both squads.

On a positive note I just trimmed down my scout and got him up to 290 speed. In a 4v4 against humans we got the badguys to waste a ton of ammo trying to hit me, got a couple to follow me into the certain death of our other 3 guys, and buried a couple in smoke so they couldn't see squat while we just pounded the area. Being a scout just got 10x more fun The seeking rockets on one of the badguy's mechs couldn't track quicker than I could turn, so they kept curling just behind me for a miss.

Save me a spot!

Just took out an enemy base from the exact center of the map, a distance no less than 1/3rd its total length, with my guns at around 875 elevation (maximum of around 1200). There's a farmland level outside Xeres where the weather is so clear you can see the enemy bases from the start point. Next time I'm there, I'll see what my absolute maximum range is.

Ditto! Save LobMob and I a spot! Be like, "no, those're LobMob and Logan's spots, you can't have 'em, n00b."

Tarakia launched an offensive against Salkar's capitol today, we fought there a few times in our "free Lobster" campaign, but your damn sand sucking friends pushed us out.

Well now is your chance to join and take the LAST Wiener Bomber spot. At about 12 midnight, PST, Morskoj undid all the great stuff Tarakia worked for all day today and took our capital. For purely greedy reasons (we wanted at their shop) we defected to Sal Kar. It was the mercenary thing to do. But don't worry, Im sure by morning the war will be over for the 2nd time in less than a week and we'll have the opportunity to rejoin Tarakia.

Some Sal Kar niceties in the shop:

Lightweight, quickfire sub-sniper rifles
A FAST hover base (my scout is up to 303 spd with it)
fighter jet looking cockpits
lightweight armor plates

If anyone finds a website with a better hound builder than the Sega site, let me know, I could use something to do at work tomorrow

Poop! And are just Logan and Lobster left? That'll suck if we have to split the squad because we have 21 people wanting to play.

You guys are the best! *sniff*

But now I'm going to suffer for the entire work day, hoping I get home in time to snag that last slot. You'll save it for me, right? Right?

Fyedaddy and I will, in all likelihood, be picking this up this week, so...

First of all, thanks to everyone last night that helped me up my learning curve. I had fun and thought I contributed a little bit to the fights at Salkar's Capital. Had I not needed sleep for work I would have pitched in to defend our own capital. Tarakia was doing so well, but got so offense-minded we had no one at the back door. Fun night, nonetheless.

I was able to design my first mech from the ground up, a soldier class that I did OK with. I am still finding my wheel house as it were. I'm starting to think that in the end I'll be best as a defender.

Question#1: Is there a human in charge at the strategic level or is it just the server? At some point someone in charge of Tarakia should have seen what jeapordy the capital was in and repositioned forces insted of continuing offensive operations in the south.

Question #2: If we end up with 2 squads, is there a way to link them? At any case, if we exceed the number for one squad, I believe that we should form 2, one for more active players and one for less active players. I will volunteer to coordinate the B squad (less active) if need be.

Again, thanks to my tutors, and I will be online tonight!

For now, I imagine I'd fit more into the B squad for most of the week, though I expect that attending the weekly Monday Chromehounds evening will be quite doable for me.

It really sucks that you can only team up with your squad and no one else.

Well, here's an idea... Why don't we make one squad for each of the three nations? We'd need one dedicated squad leader for each, and maybe we'd set up a rotation each season so they get a chance to buy tech from each nation. That way we wouldn't run into the problem of people getting left out for making stupid choices (like I did).

I'm trying to scratch together whatever I can for a 360 and Chromehounds but I think the one squad per nation makes much more sense if you can have multiple pilot profiles per live account.

edit: Link

I thought I had read (although it was probably here...) that you could link squads together in a clan. I googled though and all I turned up was Sega's page saying something to the effect of you had a squad of 20 people and launched in "clans" of 6 to fight. Plus there's no meta-squad or whatever UI stuff.

It's really kind of baffling that they'd make a clan limit of 20 if you can only deploy 6 at a time anyway.

Maybe it has something to do with lotteries and/or rankings? I mean, if you had a clan of 200 people I'm pretty sure you'd lead the leaderboards easily.

Speaking of which, how are we doing lotteries in the Wiener Bombers? I hope you guys aren't just ignoring them... I've gotten some of my best stuff in lotteries. I just got this really cool Sal Kar cockpit. It's a large-size but light weight and has decent armor, and looks a lot like the cockpit of a Mad Cat (same 1950's bomber-style glass canopy). Right now Sal Kar appears to have a lottery for a captured Morskoj cockpit that looks like a freaking monolith; I'm pretty sure it's the heaviest cockpit in the game. I'm curious as to what happens when a large squad wins a lottery, too. I know you can extra lottery slots based on ranking, but who puts up the money and who gets the item?

I picked up the game and am interested in joining whatever squad is available. I'm still clueless as to much of the game but I'm working on it.

No, it's the squad lobby. The game essentially maintains a chat room for all members of the squad who are currently in the main online menus or their garage. I'd imagine that there are both technical and logistical issues with trying do such a thing with much more than 20 people at a time.

We haven't been ignoring them, no. We just don't have that many slots. Last I checked we were up to maybe 8 slots at a time, which means that less than half of the squad can have an active entry at any given time, even assuming that no one has taken more than one spot at a time. But yes, you are right, the best parts can only be found in the lottery. (I suppose that perhaps if we managed to keep one war going for more than a week, some of those parts might start showing up in the regular shop. Maybe From and Sega will adjust the amount of capture points needed to take some regions in order to prevent Morskoj from steamrolling everyone else yet again in the next round...)

So who puts in the cash and who gets the part, Zero?

There are 8 slots that anyone in the squad can use. As long as there are free slots, you can enter lotteries. It is a bit rude to take up more than one slot at a time, but if they are available, you can. But the inidividual who makes the lottery entry pays for the part and gets it if he wins.

..And hands it over to zero if it's a Neumann System chip.

Yea we need to establish a 1 lottery per person rule, its pretty ridiculous to log on and see 3 lottery slots taken up by one guy.

I got spooked by the early negative reviews, so decided to Gamefly Chromehounds. Should be in my mailbox today when I get home from work. Due to my procrastination(Gamefly's slowness), will I just be left out of a squad? Or is there a second squad that is actually forming? How many people do we have who have or are getting Chromehounds and aren't in the squad?
Just wondering if I should prepare to be an army of one since I'm already used to being in a relationship of one.

I'm going to lock up this thread so we don't have conversations jumping around between them. Hit the squad thread!
