Farscape

Pages

So I borrowed Farscape season 1 from my AWESOME next door neighbor and watched through it with my wife. We're enjoying it. I'd say that season 1 is good but not great. Not enough to replace any of my top 3 favorite shows, but good enough for us to want more, definitely. So we've started downloading torrents of season 2 and we've watched up to the 2nd episode of the 3 parter.

Are there any other fans of the series out there? I know we're discovering this show a little late. I get the feeling that in season 1 the writers are still getting a handle on the relationships between the characters. There's that sense that some of the growth and advancement gets lost from episode to episode; one show will end with the characters closely bonded and the next they're at each others' throats. This seems to be especially the case with the budding romance between John and Aeryn.

Okay, and now the million dollar Goojer question....

Which member of the crew would you do?

IMO, the show just gets better from there. It would surely make my top 10 of favorite shows. Enjoy!

Oh, and ... Rigel.

The show definitely peaks in the middle, it was a Friday night favorite of my family back in the day. I was somewhat disappointed with the last season but it's right up there with one of my favorite shows.

Damn, it's really hard to talk about this show without spoiling anything.

I really enjoyed it but as with all serials I never actually bothered to watch it regularly. I liked Pilot and the blue plant woman.

As with X-Files, the romance kind of killed it for me. Then they threw in that crazy silver chick and it started getting weird.

EDIT: My mention of liking Pilot has NOTHING to do with the "who would you do" question!

It's definately one of my top 10 favorites.

Oh, and ... Rigel.

Ewwwww!

I would definately do the blonde peacekeeper engineer, can't remember her name for some reason....

If you have just seen season one, you ain't see nuttin yet! Just keep watching and by the time you get to the end of the last mini-series, you be speaking about your top 4 shows, not your top 3. That's all I'll say. I really love the show.

Oh yeah, I would do the psycho redhead screamer, whatever her name is.

Sputnik?

No, the screamer was Jool. Sputnik was Sikozu.

Riiiiight.

We haven't yet seen the redhead.

Excellent show, it really does take off after the first season. Make sure you grab the mini-series after you've finished watching the show proper, it's pretty darn good!

Claudia Black is one of those women that doesn't photograph incredibly well but I loved her character in the show. She could be surprisingly funny.

It's true, Aeryn is great. She would actually be my choice. She's got that great athletic body, aussie accent, and gorgeous blue eyes. Plus, she's usually wearing black leather, and that's always a plus.

Awesome show, definitely one of my top 3 along with Firefly and Battlestar Galactica (recent version). It's all about the characters, and the creativity, wait until you hit the warner brothers style cartoon episode (trust me, it's out there) and the mini-series was an excellent capper to a series that should have run much longer (stupid sci-fi.... Crackers do matter!)

Welcome to the Farscape universe, have a frelling great time!

Yes, Certis plus the accent adds to the goodness!

Great show although I didnt watch the last couple of seasons.

Who was the blonde peacekeeper mechanic. I remember that episode but can't recall who the actress was...Nicole Roma was her name but nothing in yahoo images or IMDB besided the episode.

EDIT: I can't stop scrolling up to look at that picture.

I actually didn't like the mini-series. It was a disappointing, but I suppose acceptable, finish to a great series. I kind of rank it up there with The Pretender where it gets, and I know this is Farscape we're talking about, but still, weird in ways the original show never was.

I watched it through downloads, as I didn't have cable at the time, but the odd character interactions may have to do with what order you're watching them in. Because the U.K. and the U.S. had different orders, and then there was the production order, I ended up finding Slacker's Farscape Episode guide and watching them in the order the fans had pretty much decided was "official". I wonder if it differs from the dvds.

Farscape is actually the reason I have such a (perhaps illogical) hate for Stargate. In my mind, it helped kill the series because Sci-fi could have dropped one show or the other, and stuck with Stargate because it had lower ratings, but cost less, so it had a better ratings/cost ratio. Damn you economics! Damn you to hell!

Gilina Renaez, wasn't it? Played by Alyssa-Jane Cook.

Hmm good job QS, I must have found ANOTHER peacekeeper blonde mechanic name.

I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned wanting to do Chiana, the blue vixen.

Wasn't Chiana the pale one?

To me, the mini-series was a good cap to the series, but I still found it lacking. It seemed that they tried to force an entire season's worth of story into a 4-hour mini. It was decent, but it could have been better if it had been longer.

Yes. She looks pale blue to me, but my wife says she looks gray only to her. Chiana is cute, but so.... twitchy.

Whoa...

Gilina Renaez, wasn't it? Played by Alyssa-Jane Cook.

Yah, definately her:)

Chiana is grey.

Zhaan is blue. Or as Rygel likes to call her, the great blue B*tch.

*chuckles* I like to think of Chiana as "Monochromatic".

As for the Mini-Series finale, since the series was cancelled without being able to tie up any of the plot threads, the mini-series did the best it could with a limited amount of time tying up most of the loose ends. Bittersweet, but at least they didn't leave us hangin'!

Although I totally agree with Unntrlaffinity about hating Stargate for the economic death argument, I sheepishly find myself watching Stargate Atlantis as an ashamed/guilty pleasure.

Farscape is one of my all time favourite shows. I stopped trying to chose between the new BSG, B5, Firefly and Farscape a while ago!

The second half of season 1 and season 2 are up there with the best TV around.

"Monochromatic"...lol, that fits!

I was very glad to see the mini-series, as the way in which the run ended was upsetting to a fan like me. I didn't like some of what it did (so difficult to discuss without spoilers!) but was glad for the resolution of one of my best loved shows.

Picking between the Farscape women is practically impossible! (Granny doesn't count!) I suppose I would have to say Aeryn, but...Pip! Draw between Zhaan and Sputnik, with Jool trailing. Don't forget Moya, if you like a big girl!

I loved the whole Harvey/John dialogue. The show just had so much imagination, humour and soul to it, and nothing in sci fi has really had that since.

A lot of people were intially turned of it by the muppets thing, which was a real shame. Rigel and Pilot were amazing pieces of craft, and the sheer level of animation meant that I tended to forget most of the time anyway.

Incidentally, was it just me, or were those bird-like creatures that tried to paralyse Moya by vomiting on her the Skegsi (sp?) from the old Henson movie Dark Crystal?

Excellent Show. Own the entire series on DVD. Although SCIFI pissed me off with the way they cancelled it, I have to say it is better to go off with a bang rather than a whimper.

The wife and I just finished the Peacekeeper Wars mini-series today (we're watching bonus features now). I have to say, the series really came into its own in season 3 and 4. The very very end of season 4 (the last minute or so) was a bit hokey, though the mini-series did a nice job of wrapping everything up. All in all, a very excellent series.

The entire Farscape storyline, when I think back on it, feels like one of those crazy, 5 year D&D campaigns where the DM had his girlfriend break up with him and did a few nights totally wasted.

How is that a bad thing?

Who said it was?

So with the release of the Blu-Ray version last month, I started rewatching it. First time since it went abruptly off air. Oh, how I missed it. So frelling good.

Double post for Harvey!
