Yay... and just a heads up Gamespot doing a demonstration of Chromehounds Multiplayer! Although, I'm not sure how that works...

Looks like you have to register. No thanks, Gamesplot

I guess the next day they show it for free... I'll see it a few.

funny (ok not haha funny) how the peak of the mech combat genre is a game made over a decade ago.

Amen.

Though I'll still buy it.

A member of the XBox launch team, daStahl, seems to be fighting an addition to Chromehounds. He's posted some extremely detailed impressions on the official Chromehounds board at XBox.com. By detailed, I mean he's describing his freaking loadout.

Interesting things he's mentioned:
- Heat-seeking missiles are in the game (some people thought there would be no lock-on weapons, only dumbfire rockets)
- Tracked vehicles do have a lower profile than legged vehicles.
- Legged vehicles can handle much steeper gradients than tracked vehicles.
- You do not pick a role when building a Hound. Rather, each part has a rating in each role, contributing to an overall role set for each full design. All that determines is how quickly you gain experience in each role.
- There are enough buildings or sufficient size to act as cover against weaponfire and visual detection (ie, you can hide behind them).
- The level of customization in your paint job is described as on par with Forza (may be a bit of an exaggeration). You can pick a basic coat of camoflague, but you can also stamp on decals, shapes, insignias, etc., with up to 8 layers.

Just saw the video at Gamespot... and I think Gamespot sure needs to figure out how to showcase games. I mean, fine they can talk about the game but do I have to look at them... why not show the video and let them talk on background. At least they said some interesting things because they showed jack when it comes to gameplay. Seriously, they need to take notes from Gametrailers.com and how they do their previews!

Also... Thx for the info, LM.

Yeah, totally Nei. And they usually have that chunky fellow doing it. I'd rather see the game, thanks.

This week's 1up Show has a segment on Chrome Hounds where they go into the multiplayer and single player a bit. Looks like a game I'm really going to enjoy, but it definitely won't be for everyone.

Edit: whoops, sorry about that.

Sinatar... can you fix the link.

- Tracked vehicles do have a lower profile than legged vehicles.

Don't they kind of have to, short of a millipede design?

Lobster, do you have a link to that thread you mentioned? That sounds like good reading material.

Thanks!

Here. It is good reading material.

The 1Up guys seemed really down on the game... But just about everything they mentioned (except the weak storyline) seemed like a plus for me. I've got to wonder, why'd they pick those two guys to review it when they obviously aren't fans of simulations? I mean seriously, whinging about how the guns have realistic designations?

It also sounded like there was already $50 worth of downloadable parts? I was kind of expecting downloadable parts to be stuff they're adding after release, not, "Let's withhold this content so we can charge extra for it."

That's exactly how I felt after watching it. They were whinging about the pace, the simmy aspects, the commander and targetting system, all things that sound very appealing to me. :p

Sigh... what so good about MechAssult? It seems like everyone is either calling Chromehounds a rip-of a MechAssult or Dark Sheep compared to MechAssult.

You could make a case that the only mech game most console gamers know is MechAssault.

I didnt find the game or its sequel fun enough to pick up even twice when I rented them. Maybe it had great multiplayer, I have no idea.

It was one of the first breakout titles on Live. I think that's most of the appeal.

Finally got a chance to watch 1up Show... and WTF! Seriously...!

I honestly don't want to sound like I'm pimping GTtv but can they(Gamespot, 1up, etc) remove tacked on, useless acting that got nothing to do with anything. I mean if it's going to be a show about games then keep it about games.

Don't mean to rant.

As for Chromehounds... looks awesome! Also, the guy in Converse, he does not have a single clue what he is talking about. It's like they gave him a paper with an outline is to what the game is all about.

I generally like the 1up show, actually, but that is beside the point.

Everything they talked about pretty much met or exceeded my expectations, so I was glad about what I saw. The one thing that did concern me a little bit was their discussion of downloadable content. I really hope Sega plays it well, because that is one of the few things that could hamper my enjoyment of the game.

Also, the comments on the Xbox forums were pretty encouraging. How long is it now? Three weeks?

Also note this part...

Guy 1: So, did you like Armored Core?
Guy 2: Nope.
Guy 1: Yeah, me neither.

It's about four weeks. A little less. Unless you're in Japan.

More impressions from TeamXbox!

Ooo, that's juicy. My only concern is that it looks that in order to get the most out of it you need a well-coordinated team.

That's why you roll with goodjers, right?

I just hope Sega doesn't pull a Full Auto with this game.

Indeed. Well, between that TeamXbox article and the threads on the Xbox forums, I'm pretty much set as far as hype for this game goes. I'm ready to get down to business and play the thing.

So who are we going to have on this game for sure? Clearly Nei, Lobster, and I are pretty much in barring huge undisclosed suckiness. Anyone else?

Yup, just hope there's enough interest in this one.

Unless negative news surfaces, I'll be picking this up. Most likely my brother will as well.

I'll be getting it, one way or another. I can't resist giant robots with missiles.

Well, EB already got my money for this game.... so I'm in. I mean come on, who can resist a FREE Mini-Guide! It's... FREE, oh, and it comes with a game, which I guess is cool. Still, it a FREE... and it's a mini-... which means small, GUIDE! It's a must buy... and you can sell the game on E-bay, but keep the FREE... MINI... GUIDE for your self.

Woohooo!

We ought to decide on a Goodjer Uniform. You know, set of camo and colors so we can quickly identify each other in the field. If we're up against people with any intelligence it won't be long until they figure it out too, but the ability to engage without commander confirmation, even for a short while, looks like it'll be a major advantage.

Use the weinerbomb as you insignia.

I suggest white with red polka-dots.
