I've had this problem for some time on my laptop. Any games with more than 1 dvd or Cd stop installing after the first disc. I pop the 2nd one in, the cd spins then doesn't read. What's the dealy oh yo?
I think the problem's your new Avatar, it's causing all kinds of trouble. I dunno, clean the cds or use a blast of compressed air in the drive? Maybe the laser is a bit smudged.
Can you borrow a friend's DVD version and install from that? It should still take your CD key. Failing that, you'll need to check the firmware on your CD drive, some copy protection schemes have given me problems installing. With 1942 I had to install it over the network to get past a CRC failed check on the second disk. Took FOREVER, but so worth it.

I reinstalled firmware. No dice. I tried putting all the cab files on my hard drive and installing the game from there. The game doesn't seem to want to start. The only people around here with the game I know have the CD version of the game.
I've had a problem where XP pro thinks it's the previous disc. So, disc 1 is done, disc 2 is needed, I remove disc 1 and insert disc 2. I hit continue, but it still prompts for disc 2. Checking explorer, it still shows disc 1 in the drive, even though disc 2 is physically there.
I right-click and hit eject in explorer. Do a refresh on the view and then insert the next disc. 9 times out of 10, explorer recognizes the new disc and the install can continue. It's a pain, but it works. It seems to happen when my PC is on for long periods, but not when I first start it up.

My older computer did this same thing once in a while, and that solution worked for me too.

I used to do the same thing on my old laptop. It wouldn't recognize new cd's either, but a refresh seemed to do the job.

Maybe rip the CD's into images and load them with Daemon tools or something? I don't really do it, but I understand it can be done.
This was gonna be my first suggestion. If you've got the HDD space, and the games aren't copy protected, it's not that hard to make an image, and mount it to a virtual drive. Then you've just got to hope the game will look at the virtual drive for disk 2.

I cleaned off the laser and no change. Still won't install past the first cd. Which means my BF2 is mocking me as I speak.

Maybe rip the CD's into images and load them with Daemon tools or something? I don't really do it, but I understand it can be done.

ClockworkHouse: He means the comic The Dark Knight Returns, where Batman and Superman get in a fistfight over Gotham. Not The Dark Knight Rises, where Batman and a loudly farting orchestra get in a fistfight over your attention.
