No DX10 for Microsoft XP

Well at least according to ATI

ouch! certainly a bold move by MS to push people into upgrading that are gamers

I don't believe the "six times the performance" hype they are pushing about DX10 either.

Sweet. Another excuse to finishing jumping ship to console gaming and not bother with more computer upgrades.

I thought that was already decided? I never knew that there was a possibility of DX10 coming to XP. I know NOTHING about the inner workings of DX, but what I heard, it is such a complete rewrite of the way things are done, that it would be very difficult to implement in XP (direct access to hardware and some such stuff). Considering there isn't a DX10 card on the market, and the next computer I purchase won't be for another year or more, I would guess that I'll get it by default at that time. Until then, though, no DX10 only games for me!

Remember we'll all have to buy new, DX10-compliant cards. It's all in the wording.

If that is the case, then they are sonsofbeetches. I am planning on purchasing a new rig later this year that uses PCIe vid cards and if this keeps me from buying one until later, then I will be slightly upset.

I'm sure it'll work, just not take advantage of the DX10 goodness. And of course, the first batch of DX10 compliant cards will be top of the line. Maybe they won't be literally 6x faster, but with some fancy number shuffling, creative comparisons and the natural evolutionary boost, I'm sure they can validate this claim.

That is, unless the claim was same card with DX10 versus one without.

You can run DX10 on a DX9 or even lower card no problem.. you just dont get any of the DX10 features in the games.

100% correct.. the theory being that the new DX10 cards in combination with DX10 and Vista will be X times faster (Im sure though its not going to be X6 under most conditions)

Yup..it was the rumor for a bit now.. and in the end doesnt seem that suprising given the big changes in Vista and DX.

Is Halo 2 still the Vista flagship title?

If I can run Crysis at 1900x1200 with full A/A and A/F on a DX10 card and Vista, I'll gladly pay $500 for a new card.
