1UP's top picks of E3 - No HALO 3

Link

I'm not suggesting HALO 3 deserved any particular recognition, but I found it quite interesting that what was always assumed to be the biggest weapon in MS's arsenal turned out to be something of a non-event. For those too lazy to click, Lost Planet was selected for best action game and Mass Effect was the best X360 game.

If Halo 3 is on any "best of" list other than "Best Halo Game" it shouldn't be there. Good call, IGN!

Wasn't Halo 3 a trailer...? Why would it be considered as anything...?

What about "best super teaser trailer?" I think that would be a fair award.

Yeah I don't think anyone was expecting more than the brief trailer that we got. I have to say I'm most looking forward to Bioshock.

Looks like we're all in agreement here. I put zero stock in a 30-second movie, especially when years ago we were given the impression that Halo 2 was a game about the liberation of Earth, and hardly any of it actually took place there. Who has ANY idea whether what was shown at E3 is even related to what Halo 3 will eventually be?

I do wonder what kind of 2007 release date they can make if there aren't even screenshots yet. Late 2007, if it all, I reckon...

Agreed. Halo can't be Microsoft's biggest weapon every year. I'd call it more of a tech demo than a trailer. Either way it doesn't need to be on any lists because best of lists are silly.

Giving Halo 3 ANYTHING would have almost been as ridiculous as Killzone 2 winning game of E3 last year... I guess some people are finally learning..

The link goes to a gamasutra article about 1up's picks for best games of E3. Does IGN have a similar thing that I can't find?

The Halo 2 E3 footage was from a early version of the Metropolis level. The only thing they changed that I would have preferred was the single shot battle rifle zoomed, three burst from the hip action. They also showed a Brute hijacking a warthog, something I've never seen ingame; but that's more likely because I can't think of a level with both Brutes and warthogs. Overall, not misleading.

I dunno. Who ever mentioned IGN? I sure didn't.

<_< >_>

I figured DN4Ever was a shoe in for best of show. Guess not.

Did 3DRealms even show up?

Did 3DRealms even show up?

Only long enough to trash other developers and publishers

I would sure like a good "liberation of Earth" game. There's something about fighting for your home that resonates a lot deeper than a space opera about a galaxy far far away or whathaveyou..

Prediction: Halo 3 won't come out before next E3.

That's what made Freespace I and II so compelling to me. You were fighting to save Earth, and then your own existance. And in a much more "Man in a war" way, rather than a "Man fighting a war all by himself" way.

I'm still peeved about how little of Halo 2 was spent on Earth. Between the Ads, the press releases, and the setup provided by the ILOVEBEES metagame, I thought the majority of that game would be you, y'know, defending Earth. Lo and behold, i'm stuck on another Halo. Again. With the Flood. Again. Hooray.

Maybe the "3" after the title had something to do with it?

See, Danjo? I'm not alone here!

If it was just a clip, how could it be game of the show, anyway.
