I decided to go up from top and I got Lateralus on the cheap yesterday (BB didn't have AEnima).
GODDAMIT I AM A CONVERT NOW. I can't get Grudge, Lateralis, Triad, EVERYTHING from my head now. This is spell-like, hypnotic, awesome.
Why haven't anyone told me about it before? I blame it on you, people of GWJ, with all the time and bandwidth wasted on pooper jokes when there're matters of such importance out there that are left uncommunicated.
Man, if you've not seen someone comment on Tool, then you've totally avoided our music threads
Also: Their popularity on our Last.fm group isn't small either.
<---- Yoink! Legion may rest easy that the evil eye of the Gandhi is no longer watching him.
Aw, I really like Iraqi Gandhi. Who will preach slightly less violence now?
He will rise again. I just had to have a quadruple dose of soul on the left.
Another fantastic Tool album. They have yet to produce a product that I less than love.
Its a mighty fine album. I downloaded it about a week ago and have been enjoying it since. I will put my money where my mouth is on this one. Personally I like it better than Lateralus.

Thank god. It's like the damn hypno-toad in Futurama. I just stare and stare and stare.
Also: It's awesome.
Also, you are quite right. Lateralus was very much built around the percussion, but I feel like this album was steered by the vocals - Maynard really explores some new spaces and I dig it.
I like the band, but don't own this album. Therefore I cannot say if this has any vailidity. If it does, enjoy.

It's true. I haven't heard it myself, but I hear that it actually works very well, and it seems clear that it is intentional. Of course, Tool isn't the first to go there--Neurosis and The Flaming Lips have both done it on a larger scale--but it's still pretty cool.

Indeed it does work. I had the MP3 at one point - I'll see if I can refind where I downloaded it.
I found it here under the news for June 19th.
That's pretty feckin' amazing.
