T-Shirt Design Contest Now Closed

Section:

Huge thanks to everyone who submitted designs! We're now in the process of deliberating over which ones we like best and whether or not they'll cost an arm and a leg to produce. Once we've decided on some of our favorites we'll use them as part of the process for shopping around to different merchant partners. Swag is not going to be a huge money making venture for GWJ, we're mostly going to be looking for affordable prices and good quality stuff.

I know everyone wants to see all the designs, but we're going to need some time to get this all together and nail down the logistics before we get everyone too excited about which designs are coming. Look for more details this Fall when we're closer to launching a store and we've had a chance to work with the winning designers to make sure everything is ship shape! We will be informing individual front runners by email in the next week or so.

Funny, I would have pictured you entering another recent avatar as your design.

Waffle-bra. That is all.

Ftfy.

EDIT: This isn't Philosofrenzy. This isn't him at all. I didn't switch accounts before posting. I'm sorry.

Love,
Amoebic.

P.S. Thanks for the heads up on the tee shirt contest, guys, I look forward to the results! : )

More waiting! This makes me sad. Are you afraid we'll steal your designs and start our own GWJ store?

Good luck everyone! Can't wait to see all the designs!

Cant wait to see everyone's work! I'm going to use mine as my new TF2 spray.

I should have mentioned this before, but I expect quality submissions that cater specifically to either endorse grammar or inflate my ego. These two goals are similar enough to be functionally interchangeable.

Looking forward to a little GWJ schwag under the non-holiday specific present tree this year!

Good luck to all who entered. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long to see the winning designs.

Well if you want you can see my design in the meantime at my newly started blog
Don't know if it's a winning one, but it's one nonetheless!

Shameless plug.... but I just want some traffic! And some opinions of course!

I like the idea of the design. My only critique would be that its a little hard to see what it is from a distance. I don't know if there is any way to fix this.

On a technical side, you have more than 3 colors, which was one of the rules I think. This could be easily fixed by changing a few of them. I'm not sure how strict the overlords are going to be on this since almost all the images I've seen posted break this rule :).

Thanks for the comment! Anything can be fixed with some good will
I don't know that it's more than 3 colors though: I have red, brown, and then black OR white, depending on the color of the shirt... the t-shirt background color doesn't count, does it? Am I thinking wrong?
You've been pretty active in the discussion, have you submitted anything? If so, I'd love to see it! Something tells me you're good

That looks like 3 colors to me. Good luck to you!

Thanks! Feels good to know I'm not a complete fool.
Saw your designs, like the "shield/ivy league" one! Lycka till

Dark red is not the same as lighter red. Unless those shades or reds are created by using half-tones (little dots spaced different distances, like a B&W image in the newspaper) the printer would need to use several different ink colors. I'm not sure how strict the contest judges are going to be, but I'm pretty sure this is how the colors work (although I'm not in the t-shirt printing business, I have screen printed t-shirts). The shirt color is a free color, so Black / White / Red / Brown is a fine combination to get 3 colors while Black / White / Red / Dark Red / Brown is 4 colors. If Dark Red consisted of Red with little black or brown dots in it to give the appearance of Dark Red, then that wouldn't count as an additional color.

I'm not trying to be a jerk and I think the GWJ crew should have clarified this one way or the other in the original posts.

Sorry, had to do it

But quite the opposite, it's very nice of you to take your time to explain what you mean! I did learn something even but... the fact is there are no two red colors... unless Illustrator cheated on export and made "GWJ red" into two different nuances!

BTW, I was serious about your submission to the contest. Is there anything? If so, may we see it?

I apologize. When I looked at your image, I didn't click through to the larger one. You do only have 3 colors! The outer ring was a darker red in the smaller jpg, but the larger one is fine.

I like the idea behind your image a lot. I think it might look a little better if the parts were bolder. If you made the staples thicker and the pins a little larger I think the image might be stronger and more visible from a distance.

Here is my submission, which isn't too fancy. I think the swords definitely could be better. The image is a transparent gif and it could work on any color shirt.

Ah, a Wisconsin fan!

Haha, I was going for "Goodjer Vs. Badger."

Thanks! And you're probably right, those parts would benefit from being a little bolder... I was so focused on making a pretty logo and obsessing over details that I didn't think of the big picture enough. Well, hopefully the overlords consider this a WIP!
I like yours, but I think the swords would benefit from being a bit bigger and more detailed, and the other way around for Goodjer and Badger. And I'm a sucker for some colour

The front runners have been contacted, pending merchant partner heads not spinning and blood shooting out their ears when we ask what it will take to print the designs.

I wish we had a cheap way to do them all, it was a really tough process getting all these awesome entries whittled down to a few.

Well I know of one person who hasn't won. :). Any chance of seeing the entries now that the contest is closed and the winners are selected?

I leave that to the discretion of the respective people who submitted.

:(. That's my favorite part of these types of things. I doubt people will post their submissions, but hopefully they will and maybe the announcement of the shirt design will encourage them.

You can view my submissions right here: http://www.fredrikdesigns.com/

Just hit that little down arrow to see them. (I really need to redo the navigation on my site).

edit post: because I have the dumb.

I think I'm going to wait to post mine until after the winners have been officially announced.

This was my submission. It was a bit off brief but I liked the idea of doing game based Stans. I was working on the CMYK use of three colours where you can mix them to create other colours. When I realised that T-shirt printing doesn't work that way I couldn't see how to do the idea with literally only three colours and no shades, etc. I had fun doing it.
