It's Here Now!: Forward Progress Radio

In the face of overwhelming demand, I have begun taking steps to create the football podcast that the world needs.

The title is -- well, you can read the subject line.

I have two requests to make of my loyal audience:

1) I want to answer "call-in questions" in the form of recorded audio bits emailed to me - like Major Nelson does. If you got a mic and got a question, you can record a quick question that I can play on the show to answer. I'll post an email address soon when I'm ready to accept those.

2) I have no art skills, and I would love it if someone with artistic talent could slap together a simple logo (or not so simple) that I can use on the website and as the "cover image" for iTunes/iPods/etc. I'll take more than one and allow people to choose a winner, but frankly I'll be happy to just get one to use. Either that, or I'll sneak onto the field at Bulldog Stadium and take a snapshot of the goalposts or something.

You bastards demanded it, and now you're getting it.

Excellent news Legion. I can't wait for the first show.

good luck to ya!

Awesome.

I'd do a logo for you but that's something I usually delegate

Best of luck with it!

Alrighty. I got my hosting, I got my software, I got Logan's microphone and gear, and I got a crappy logo to go with for now.

Now, all I need is YOUR QUESTIONS! Questions can be submitted in two ways:

1) A plain text email to [email protected]
2) Record a voice clip of yourself asking the question, and email it to [email protected].

Please include your name (handles are OK) and town - say these first in the case of voice clips.

Be a part of the not yet broadcast, but already world famous.... FORWARD PROGRESS RADIO!

Can I do a story on a hockey team owner that needs to play his games? (Check your inbox)

Awesome!

Now all I need is an MP3 player, and my morning commutes are set.

Website now up at www.forwardprogressradio.com!

First episode recording this weekend.

I call for a logo that looks like a silhouette of a guy talking into a network mic with headphones on, but the mic is shaped like a football. Someone with skillz, make it so.

Just as long as it doesn't look like the guy talking is about to gobble a... well, you know.

What happened to this, Legion?

If I recall correctly, the major actually has a Skype-in number that you can call and leave your question in his voicemail.

Sickness + exams = delays

Hope to post episode 1 late tomorry.

Hmm. Might set up something like that eventually. Until then, sent-in attached recordings will have to do (though nobody's stepped up to be the first yet - just plain-text email questions so far)

Confirmed.

The first show is finally here!

Head to www.forwardprogressradio.com for all the fun!

It should show up in iTunes too - let me know if it does (I'm in Linux, no iTunes )

Nice looking page! I'm going to give this a listen today

Your itunes link doesn't work, the code should look similar to the one GWJ Radio uses:

Blast. I guess I'll have to boot into Windows to fix it.

I think the pcast:// protocol link works for Macs.

I just finished listening to the show Legion, I was definitly left wanting more! The production values were top notch and you have a way of presenting football information and insight that's a real pleasure to listen to.

A few small niggles that are mostly just due to being new at it. You sound like you're reading from a script, which is probably a good way to start, but with time I hope you feel comfortable enough to keep notes but be a little more off the cuff with your presentation. Once in a while you would kind of sound like you're sucking on a losange between breaths, maybe you were

That's about it though, given that it was your first show you're off to a hell of a start. You can count me in as a subscriber and I'll be peppering you with plenty of questions in the weeks ahead

Heh. Not sucking on a lozenge, but I have been dealing with allergy-related breathing problems. I just got a fat cortizone shot a couple of days ago, hopefully that helps get my nagging cough to go away. In a few parts that ended up being recorded, I was choking back a cough, as I just wanted to get this damn thing recorded and out. (I recorded the show twice before this final one, both deleted due to bad sound quality as I figured out WTF I was doing).

The reading was part script and part off-the-cuff. It's definitely a comfort level thing. Probably also a recording-near-midnight thing. My preference is to err towards sounding too script reading-y than the other extreme of "uh" and "uhm"-ing through it. Ideally I'd like to get to the point like TV personalities that are reading off the teleprompter but don't *sound* like they're reading off the teleprompter.

I obsessed over sound quality and presentation for a while, and Logan finally reminded me that the content was #1. So I pounded it out as-is for a starting point so's I can move on from there.

I did enjoy gathering up coach sound clips for creating the opening track though.

Good stuff, Legion! My only real quibbles were that the 'break' music went on too long, and that you didn't answer my question on the air this time. I'll be looking forward to the next installment!

Did you ask a draft question? I saved all those for next show, when I get into the draft stuff.

Yeah, it was a draft question. Thanks for taking the time to put this together, it far exceeded my expectations for an initial show.

I've found that when you have some nasal issues, kicking the low and mid up while leaving the high set as is will mask it.

But yeah - content's good. And... well, heh, there's a reason the first four or five shows of Misnomer Radio have "disappeared."

I have to echo the "exceeded expectations". I was expecting your usual fantastic analysis in the content, but with a much less professional feel to it. A few times the lack of comfort level showed, but never distractingly, and the content was just phenomenal. I'm very much looking forward to the next one, and have been telling people about the podcast. Great job!

What? No "sixty-five toss power trap"? (RE: The intro compilation)

Most of the very few criticisms I might have had were already covered. Other than that, I didn't much care for the tempo of the break music. Needs more punch; either "NFL Films" symphony or at least NFL on FOX guitar grooves.

Good job and looking forward to more!

NFL films music would be perfect. Don't tell me you don't have them On CD.

Of course I have the Autumn Thunder set.

It's released on Cherry Lane, which is part of the RIAA. I AM exercising fair use rights to use RIAA music, but only in 30 second clips or less (like the Huey Lewis one). It's the same thing Apple does for their 30-second samples and their "new music" podcast - no full tracks, just 30 seconds or less.

For longer music breaks, I have a large collection of non-RIAA music to pull from. Music won't be used from one show to the next, except for the intro theme.

Needs more punch

Huey Lewis punches you in the balls!

What? No "sixty-five toss power trap"?

65 toss power trap is the second clip, right after Jerry Glanville's Not For Long.

Bah, now I have to listen again.

By the way, I hope your server is up to snuff.
