Elysium has been killed and devoured by Molerats.

This brings us to an interesting quandary. We can't reload an earlier save, because then Elysium would be a week behind and insist on writing about Wii Sports Resort again. We can't reanimate his corpse to find out what his pick for Game of the Week would be, because necromancy is a terrible, dark art (which nobody on the GWJ staff has taken specialization ranks in). We can try to recover Elysium's black box device, but we don't know exactly where he crashed. It's suspected that the answer may be 'in a Molerat den'. It would be risky though, with all those surprisingly dangerous Molerats running around. So ... onwards!

This week is a nostalgic bullet aimed straight at the wealthy aficionado's heart. Queen karaoke? Daisy Fuentes? More Ninja Turtles? G.I. Joe deploying on every single console known to humankind? Yes, we are indeed bathing in the mediocre past, where knowing is half the battle and the other half is firing at the enemy from three feet away and missing over and over and over again. My heart remains hardened, 1980s, and my credit card will stay un-swiped!

For Game of the Week, I'll take Mothership Zeta. There are no Molerats in space, and Elysium would've liked that.

"Reversal Challenge" sounds like a game based on the sport of professional gurgitating.

Just wanted to say that I like what you did in the write-up here.

Boooooooo. Hearts of Iron III will eat you all alive.

Our alien overlords have taken over this week.

Over the weekend I picked up where I had left off on Fallout 3 and had a hard time putting it down. And now there is so much DLC to consume my wallet.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra probably isn't the X-Com Resurrection Based Upon The Larry Hama Comic Book Series that I've been secretly praying for over the last 15 years, is it.

And yeah, enjoyed the writeup, by the way. For once.

I am always tempted by the depth of a game like Hearts of Iron, but ultimately I find the gameplay and pacing to be not quite what I wanted out of the package. Still, I am tempted to check out this new version...

For Game of the Week, I'll take Mothership Zeta. There are no Molerats in space, and Elysium would've liked that.

Plus he was such a fan of Fallout 3.

I for one welcome our new Mole-rat overlords.

I would like to say these slow release weeks are easy on the wallet. Then comes Friday with all the sales on Steam, Impulse and various other sites. ><

I always knew the molerats would get him. I told him "No good can come of trying to train molerats to sing in a barbershop quartet." Did he listen?

There is a GI Joe game for iPhone as well.

No love for TMNT?

HOI3 would be my pick, but I'll be holding off until I see a sale. If I really feel the urge I'll just fire up HOI2

Some love for Hearts of Iron I see. The preview I read said that you can basically hand over control of military action to the AI so you can focus on production, or vice versa. I always figured these kind of games were about reveling in tweaking minute details, which add up to tactical advantage with enough Tender Loving Care. Why would you want the computer to play for you?

Because it can see, analyze, and enact the best tactical maneuvers before you've even finished picking your nose?

...just a guess.

That kind of reminds me of the time I found my friend in the arcade at Chuck E Cheese, kicking the christ out of streetwalkers in Final Fight. I was impressed until I realized he hadn't put any quarters in, and was just smashing the buttons while the machine looped through its teaser demo.

I'd be happy if you could hand over portions of your military in HOI3, in 2 I always find handling naval interdiction and air missions a pain in the butt, in facdt I usually build an air force then loan it to an ally to command, I prefer the grand strategy to the fiddly micro management that comes with playing as one of the core factions.

no ps3 fallout dlc?

Sadly you have to wait a little longer. Last I heard they were saying September.

Just adding my two cents here. According to Johan the idea is for you to be able to give over as little or as much control to the ai anywhere you want, when you want. So if you want to focus on the eastern theater and give the ai the west (with some goals and whatnot), you can.

Here's the dev diary about it all, for those who care.
