Al Davis can't buy a head coach to save himself

From ESPN

Next stop, Los Angeles!

Art Shell is doing a happy dance right now, he's gettin' the job.

And he did.

Now the real question is who's really in charge of this team.

Now the real question is who's really in charge of this team.

Come on, you know the answer to that question already!

I liked Art Shell as a coach.. I hope he can figure out a way to turn around the Raiders.. I always felt the league was much better with the Raiders as a dominate team.. their fan base is incredible.

Plus Al Davis is cool..

Until al Davis dies, the Raiders will suck. End of story. As a Chiefs fan, that suits me fine. Ask Marcus Allen how "cool" Al Davis is.

hmm...while a SuperBowl has escaped Al during the salary cap era (they did though at least go to one) the Raiders do have SuperBowl's under Al Davis and very much did NOT suck for years.

I think Al gets a bad rap in some ways..

He undermines his coaches and gets involved in the players' petty politics. Honestly, Art Shell getting hired may be a good sign. Shell is the last Raiders coach to be hired that could have gotten a job somewhere else.

Of course, Shell couldn't have gotten a job anywhere else now. Norv Turner was a joke. Bill Callahan? Mike White? Joe Bugel? These are all guys that were not in line for jobs in the NFL. You know it's bad when Mike Martz turns you down so that he can be the Lions OC. Gruden was hired way too young, then bolted as soon as he proved himself.

There was a time that al Davis did not suck. It's been more than ten years.
