Firefly - Love it!

Gee, I wonder who our mystery writer could possibly be.

This person you think I am...I hope he's not an ass. That would suck.

I think Demo may actually think you are Joss Whedon.

Now while I don't think you are, I figure I may as well take a shot here just in case he is reading this

Hello, struggling actor here! Ah the actors life, whoring yourself out as much as you can for an opportunity to work.

Seriously though I would love to work for him he is my favorite Writer/Director right now.

Hot people beating people up is always a plus. Now...hot people with swords is even better. Case in point: Buffy Season 2 "Becoming" Parts One and Two

One of the problems I had with Buffy was that Sarah Michelle Gellar didn't seem to get any better at pretending to fight. I absolutely loved the "Once More With Feeling" epsiode but I always cringe when they do the slow mo training montage and Buffy is punching the heavy bag. You would think after that many years she would have learned how to look like she could punch properly. It's one of the first things I teach when I do fight workshops, don't bend your wrists!

I really liked Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Star Wars III. LOVED Sin City. Didn't like Batman, despite being a huge fan of the comic books. Well, the good ones.

And not to poo on Firefly (Love it!), but yay only 8 more days until Battlestar!

Same here. Scenario: I go to KinderCare to pick up The Bean. Teacher tells me that she hit someone in the playground that day. I turn to face little one...

"Beanie! Did you hit somebody today?"
"Yes, Daddy."
"Did you keep your wrist straight and hit with the first two knuckles like I showed you?"

At this point, there is a look of horror on the teachers face.

"Yes, Daddy."
"That's my little girl!"

I give her a big hug and kiss.

Did you keep your wrist straight and hit with the first two knuckles like I showed you?"

First two nuckles? Her fist should be as flat as possible so that she can make as much contact with the object she is hitting. It spreads the force over a larger area and helps keep her knuckles from getting damaged, it should also be less painful.

Shouldn't be punching using a fist anyways.

Using the heel of your palm is much more effective and a might less painful.

Tell your little girl to bob and weave, keep the feet moving.

EDIT: cause my first response was a mess.

You are correct. However if you can't bend your hand back far enough, to properly strike someone with the heel of your palm, you could do damage to your wrist in the process. Everyone can be taught to make a good fist and punch the proper way. Not everyone is going to take the time to develop the flexibility needed for a proper heel strike with thier palm.

Gaald wrote:

Your right but you need really flexible wrists or you could end up doing damage to your wrists because as you strike with the heel of your palm if your hand isn't bent far enough back it will be if you put enough force behind the strike and the rest of your hand makes contact with the object your hitting.

"Dear Gaald,

Sorry I didn't get these to you on time. I had a lame reindeer over Paraguay and somehow misplaced the package when I dug out my Reindeer Patch Kit from the trunk. Here you go, hope you can find a good use for these.

*sack full of punctuation*

Love, Santa"

alrighty, got Firefly on Christmas and watched it on my new tv on Thursday. f*cking...Awesome.

Screw it. Buy her a gun.

EDIT. Also, got the movie for both myself and my parents. (and both parties already own the series)

pwned! Always happy to see other people have a grasp of written English.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. As you can see I have rewritten that entire comment. Sometimes I just can't be bothered with punctuation.

It's comforting for me to know that Santa Certis has done good deeds with all of the rogue punctuation he captured thoughout the year, with the help of Mrs. Santa, of course!! (there's one to add to this year's offerings)

I did this several years back during my football years. Before you try to go all Jet Li (or offensive lineman) on a fat man with your palm, remember Gaald's advice. My wrist still hurts.

Gaald knows about properly executing acts of violence, I know about punctuation (sorta). Guess which one of us will last longer when the dead begin to arise and feed on the living?

"Back! Back ye unholy hordes, for I have an encyclopedic knowledge of Diana Hacker's A Canadian Writer's ReferencarghnonoohGod!"

I don't think "ReferencarghnonoohGod" is a real word.

Brennil is giving me much more credit than I deserve in the violence department, but thanks for the compliment. I think I could hold my own in a fight, but am very grateful that I have never had to try. I certainly hope I will never have to find out.

I mainly use my knowledge to help me choreograph fights on stage and film which can be pretty different than what you do in the real world. Something I like to point out when teaching people a fight sequence.

I just noticed that while Serenity got bumped from #1 to #2 by Wedding Crashers (widescreen,) the Firefly DVDs are back up to #4, again only beat out by Wedding Crashers (full screen,) for #3. Between the two of them, that has got to be quite a bit of sales, no?

It's not that I'm getting my hopes up for anothe revival or anything. I just have a feeling that the studio execs have absolutely no idea what to make of the Firefly franchise. Is it popular? Is it unpopular? What's going on?

There was one episode where a visiting Watcher told Buffy that she telegraphs her punches. I thought "Well its about time !" but of course it was a "movie correction" which didn't result in any visible improvement in the fighting sequences.

If Whedon makes a Buffy movie, I vote for the heroine to be played by Tony Jaa in a wig.

man. visited a friend with a couple of other friends upstate, watched the pilot and a couple of episodes on the DVD set, and realized at 2:30 we couldn't watch the rest of the set (11 episodes.) that, however, will happen soon, probably (hopefully) in the same place with 2 fewer people.

thank god for DVD box sets, and no commercials.

I had a Firefly day a month or so ago, watched the entire series with a bunch of friends, several of whom hadn't seen the show before. They're fans now.

Updated to a new Firefly avatar.

Ah Jubal Early, what a wonderful character. I think I read somewhere that Joss would love to see that character return, and I would LOVE to see that.

Seconded! His character had such... character!

I finished the last two episodes from the boxed set last night, effectively finishing the entire saga as I'm one of the few who actually saw the movie first.

And now today's a crappy day with no sunshine left in the world... sniff. Gonna go back and rewatch the episodes with commentary now... sniff sniff.

Heart of Gold was one of the best of the series. I fell in love with err, that woman, and then watched ... err, that thing that happened to her. Damn it. Damn it. SonofaFemale Doggo.

Same here, I've been going back through the DVD's with commentary. I can't believe, having seen what happened in Serenity, that there's no commentary on Bushwacked!

Also, I'm rather upset that when you put the subtitles on, it doesn't tell you what the characters say in Chinese. It just says [speaking chinese]. I wanted to go translate it, Dammit!

I got my sister watching it a whale back and so far she's enjoying it. Now I'm watching it again cause no matter mood I'm in I can always watch Firefly.

I've been think of doing the same thing for some of my friends as well. But getting them altogether is a bit of a challenge... Yet I'll try my best to make it work.

I'm still trying to get my wife to sit down and watch them with me. With the little one scampering about, we never have time to just sit down and relax. Somebody remind me again why I shouldn't eat my young.
