Bowl game discussion

Fresno State lands in the Liberty Bowl against the eventual Conference USA champion - which will be Central Florida, Tulsa, or UTEP... none of which are even ranked.

Hooray, bowl-games-tied-to-conferences-crap.

TCU gets the Houston Bowl against a Big 12 opponent to be determined.

Colorado State plays Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl.

Utah's in the Emerald Bowl.

Fresno St. is only going to the Liberty? Wow. I suppose Louisville is out of the CUSA championship now with two losses.

The talk around here is the Fiesta Bowl for the Irish. The students were throwing tortilla chips in the stands at the last home game in anticipation. When talking about the last Fiesta Bowl visit for the Irish, one of their officials mentioned that ND fans from 48 states bought tickets. (Alaska and Hawaii both had ND fans, just not Utah and New Mexico, evidently). That's why the bowls want ND.

However, this is all predicated on ND beating Stanford on Saturday. Walt Harris scares me. I'm surprised they let him out of Pittsburgh in favor of (insert explitive) Wanndstedt. Not that I've followed college football much before this year, and really only the Irish and their opponents at that.

Most rumor for an ND opponent is suggesting Va. Tech or maybe Oregon. One of those Big 10 schools could get in there too, though, depending on how the selections go.

By the way, that Navy team looks pretty tough.

Louisville is in the Big East now, so they are out of running there.

I guess I knew that...for some reason I thought that happened next year.

That's as good as they can do. They can't get a BCS bid, and everything else good is associated with BCS conferences.

What's sad is that they're going to get a worse opponent than they had last year in the MPC Computers Bowl. At least there, they had a #18 ranked Virginia team. Now, they'll play an unranked team, unless MAYBE if Central Florida can creep back into the 25.

But I think anyone that watches college football would much rather see Fresno go challenge another powerhouse team, or at least someone ranked near them. They deserve a two-loss team like Georgia. Or maybe one of those two teams that punked out of scheduling Fresno: Auburn and Texas Tech. Now wouldn't that have been sweet.

Too bad. And Fresno games do so well on national TV. ESPN apparently has great ratings when they broadcast Fresno games (at least, that's what they say). Fresno does bend over backwards to get on national TV too. Half of our home games this year were played on weekdays, so as to get those games on TV.

If you want to complain about not going to a better bowl, losing to Nevada doesn't help your case.

I am excited about Fresno State being in the Liberty, otehrwise I woudl not get a chance to see them in person.

Shush. You weren't supposed to notice that.

After the SC game and already tying up their bowl game, that was pretty much a classic post-everything let down.
