NFL Week 10 General Discussion Thread

Other than maybe the Denver/Oakland game, today's lineup doesn't look that spectacular on paper. Hopefully, something interesting will happen or else all the talk this week will still be T.O.-dominanted.

This Manning love sickens me... first they overrule what looks like a fumble and not a pass and completely ignore that it was a lateral anyway... so there is no way the Giants could have kept the ball..

Insane!!

Go Bucs!

I can't believe how well Simms played today!

PLUS I can't believe the de3fense didnt allow them to get in field goal range with 58 secs left! Woot!

Dang Bucs game was crazy.

As a Skins fan I of course think the 2 point conversion was not any good see how his elbow was dow before the line and the ball was not extended but not like it should ever came to that nor would I suspect officials to of turn the call on the field.

Was a great game to watch though and alsmot pulled it off despite 3 turn overs.

Maybe, but Betts stepped out of bounds TWICE on that TD return, so it's even.

I really want someone to take down the Colts. There are teams I would enjoy seeing go undefeated, they're just really not one of them.

Haha no way his heel never touched out.

Besides you guys got that pushed out call too but who is counting.

The bottom line is the Skins gave that game away like they been doing on the road. It is sad that you go into games against Denver, Chiefs, and now Bucs and basically out play them in almost all areas but just keep wanting to give the other team the ball.

Was exciting game to watch.

Great trick play by the Steelers to open the half...

Me so lazy:

Kansas City 3, Buffalo 14
San Francisco 9, Chicago 17
Arizona 21, Detroit 29
Houston 17, Indianapolis 31
New England 23, Miami 16
Minnesota 24, NY Giants 21
Baltimore 3, Jacksonville 30
Denver 31, Oakland 17
NY Jets 3, Carolina 30
Green Bay 33, Atlanta 25 (Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?)
St. Louis 16, Seattle 31
Washington 35, Tampa Bay 36

Jacksonville got some young guys going. With Fred Taylor out, Greg Jones finally got his chance, and he hung over 100 yards on the Baltimore D. And the other Jones, Matt Jones, caught 5 long passes for 117 and a TD.

The two things Jacksonville's offense has been needing (a capable backup for Taylor, and a playmaking WR), they might finally have in these two recent draft picks.

Wilford left the game with an injured shoulder, hopefully not too serious.

PACKERS WIN!!! PACKERS WIN!!! PACKERS WIN!!!

Green Bay 33, Atlanta 25 (Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?)

Beats me, man, but I'll take what I can get!

Between NE and Miami, then throwing in the Bucs, that was a hell of a lot of 2pt conversion attempts. I love games like those.

You're right RatBoy, looking at the lineup there wasn't a clear outstanding game to watch.

I'll admit I wasn't paying close attention, when I first saw it I thought it was a fumble too but from the second replay where they showed the side view it did look to me like a pass.

The Packers/Falcons game was better than I thought it would be, the Atlanta defense just didn't look that good. Same for the Vikings/Giants game, it ended up being a good game.

In the night game the Steeler's Batch broke his hand, which means Tommy Maddox starting next week? He should get his family out of the city...

Ben is supposed to be back next week. This is going to be a great game. If Indy can beat the Steelers then they will be rolling hot and prove they can beat a premiere defense. This is the tough part of their season - looking forward to it.

cool... so what about the fact that it was a lateral? and thus also a live ball.

Next week they play Baltimore, not Indy. Indy is the following week.

I heard on the radio that Ben quite possibly won't play next week - particularly because there's little need to rush him back to beat Baltimore, opting instead to sit him another week and let him be healthy for Indy.

Hmmm... must have misread the schedule - I thought it was a Monday night game next week. Either way - still going to be a good game.

I think one of the most interesting trends in the NFL right now is the throwback to the two-runner rotations. Kinda like a throwback to Mercury Morris and Larry Csonka. I'm hoping Jacksonville puts something like that together with Greg Jones now looking like a capable runner and fully back from his senior year knee injury. A lighter workload would certainly do good things to Fred Taylor's career.

Much to the dread of fantasy owners everywhere.

Yeah, it's definitely not a fantasy friendly trend.

Though maybe it will move fantasy football away from a RB love-fest. (More likely, it just makes the runners in non-split backfields even more fiercely demanded)

I just want to mention this again even though Legion threw out the explanation as 'money' before the season started.

Seatlle totally deserves to lose. They tried to get rid of Alexander while he was doing well. 2 yards from the rushing title last year and they tried to get rid of him. The football gods should be smiting them right now!

I don't care what the guy costs, you NEED him on the team.

The problem is that backs like Alexander burn out fast and sudden (see Anderson, Jamal). They don't want to be holding a cap-killing contract when the guy's 32-33 years old.

If they could sign him to a 3 year deal, then they'd probably jump all over it. The problem is, with players and agents, it's either "long term" or "nothing".

Take note of the fact that the other 31 NFL teams all left him on the table too, even though Seattle was willing to deal him. Nobody wants to break the bank on a veteran running back anymore. Edgerrin James isn't under long-term deal either. The problem is that there's always some Ronnie Browns and Cadillac Williamses and Steven Jacksons and Willis McGahees and Larry Johnsons coming out every draft that you can plug in there from day 1 and pay a fraction of the price. 1st round running backs are more often "hits" than "misses" nowadays, even in the bottom part of the round. Nobody's getting burned on bums like overhyped/underscouted Penn State backs anymore.

The running back contract market has to correct itself. So far, it hasn't happened.

Jesus, McNabb. As if TO needed more ammunition.

Edit: Damn, Mike McMahon tried to win it for Philly. Reggie Brown didn't do him any favors though.

McMahon's a feisty one. I'd like to see him play more. I saw him play for Detroit, but that's just not fair to him.

What *Legion* said, plus this: is Alexander really that good, or is it his line? Throw him on, say, Houston, and does he get the same numbers without a Walter Jones on the line? It's heresy to say it in this city, but I don't think we should sign him to a 5+ year deal. It's a shame we can't trade him for a younger back, but those are the breaks.

If he goes, who replaces him? I think it will be Ricky Williams. He'd fit in almost too well in the Pacific Northwest.

If he goes, who replaces him?

Someone from the next crop of 1st round picks. Alexander was a late 1st rounder himself, drafted to replace Ricky Watters.

This year's 1st round crop has plenty to choose from: Reggie Bush, DeAngelo Williams, Laurence Maroney, Leon Washington... plus whatever juniors come out (LenDale White maybe?). There'll be some smaller school kids that become 1st day prospects after the season ends and the scouts dig through their game tape.

Then again, there is the very real possibility that they let Alexander go sniff around, find out that nobody's willing to give him the money he wants, and then let him come back to Seattle for lesser terms on a deal.

I do think Alexander would be productive on any team, but not necessarily challenging for rushing title productive. Walter Jones isn't the only good run blocker on that line.

drafted to replace Ricky Watters.

"...father's hide your daughters
Cause I am running through Female Doggoes like my name was Ricky Watters."

McNabb sucked, but he sure wasn't getting any help from his "receivers".

I like McMahon too, he should get a shot in some place like Baltimore or Miami.

Why oh why must I root for the team that loses the game in the final minutes.

I recall last year Seatlle fans saying the same, and raving about how Sammy Morris was great and could take over. Alexander was out a few games or something and what did Morris do? nada. In fact he is playing on a nother team this year.

Plus wasn't Alexander franchise player this year? No team could go after him. (By that I mean, Seattle was going to match any offer any team gave him)

Yes the line is good but he has been doing more then that even when Dilfer and Hasselback and Kitna weren't playing well.

I think you meant Maurice Morris, not Sammy Morris, who was on the Fins last season IIRC. Maurice Morris is still on the team, and he's not that bad of a backup... but he's certainly not starter material.

Alexander was the franchise player this year, but he made a deal with the team saying that he wouldn't hold out if they promised not to franchise him next year.

You'll see him the rest of the season.. Eagles are shutting McNabb down for the rest of the season...

In fact.. a few more vets may get shut down.... Organization is throwing in the towel for this season and for good reason.. its going to be a serious re-evaluation of talent on both sides of the ball.

TheGameguru wrote:

I felt that they should've done that much earlier. But now is better than not at all.

Philly's got enough talent to come back next year and be a good team. Maybe if they add a REAL RUNNING BACK (I love Westbrook and he is a key weapon, but I'm talking about a chains-mover) in the offseason/draft, then they will be quite an offensive threat. Watching last night's game, it was amazing just how important a throw-in guy like Lamar Gordon is to that offense. If not for him moving the chains a few times, the offense would've stalled a lot more often. You gotta go get someone better than Lamar Gordon to fill that role.

Heck, Westbrook would be ideal as the Warrick Dunn in a two-tailback attack. Just go get a Duckett.
