NFL Week 8 General Discussion Thread

Only two games I got this morning are WASH at NYG and OAK at TEN. Maybe something exciting will happen.

Anyone not watching the Jaguars/Rams game is missing out.

Tiki Barber is having a heck of day. 190 yards at the start of the 3rd quarter.

Geebus. 36-0 and Tiki runs for 200 yards. Portis had six!

Alright, alright, I was wrong. Tom Coughlin is a good coach, and i'm glad he's heading up the Giants. I don't know how he coaxed that performance out of the 28th worst defense in the league, but good lord.

Also, Tiki is the most underrated back in football, of this i'm sure.

Coughlin was a great coach in Jacksonville. I don't know why nobody ever believed that. He only made that expansion team successful overnight.

Mark Brunell has ALWAYS downplayed the alleged "feud" between him and Coughlin.

(*&*^% Simms.

I would not be surprised if Gruden starts Rattay next week. You give a guy a game against the worst defense in the league and he does nothing but fumble get sacked and throw interceptions.

I'm not sure if I can even talk football this week...

Wow my team got its clocked clean by the Giants!

Basically the Skins were man handled in every aspect of the game.

Just hoping it was just a fluke for them to phone it in this week and they get back on track.

Wow my team got its clocked clean by the Giants!

At least you got beat my a decent team!

That's it. Apparently, having a life interferes with my ability to post the scores. So, while they are late, here they are:

Green Bay 14, Cincinnati 21
Arizona 13, Dallas 34
Chicago 19, Detroit 13
Oakland 34, Tennesse 25
Jacksonville 21, St. Louis 24
Washington 0, NY Giants 36
Minnesota 13, Carolina 38
Cleveland 16, Houston 19
Miami 21, New Orleans 6
Kanas City 20, San Diego 28
Philadelphia 21, Denver 49
Tampa Bay 10, San Francisco 15

wow...I couldnt ever imagine a worse game than the Dallas game for the Eagles...and then today happened..

Its going to be an U G L Y week in Philly... people are going to be jumping off the bridges all week.

yikes!

Or they'll intentionally drive the wrong way in that circle thing in the middle of town. Now that's a nightmare.

Who was it that was telling me about how Denver wouldn't be able to handle all those "weapons" Philly's passing game's got? McNabb started the game 1-of-12, and the fearsome Greg Lewis and LJ Smith had 1 catch each.

"Now that's funny right thar!"

But damn, run defense was even worse. BOTH of Denver's tailbacks got over 100? How can that happen against stud man Trotter?

Next Sunday night game could be either a real good game or a game of 2 really inept teams.

Guess it will depend what teams show up.

Can anything go right for the Vikings this year?

Yeah...Jackonsville showed up also....

We'll be back next year... just wait and see.

**edit**

Also..I move to abolish the salary cap and revenue sharing.. there has to be again some benefit to being an elite football town and some sort of unfair advantage for the teams that can get it.

now that of course we have a good ownership and big money.

Ok, my Packers suck.

Or do they ...

It could all be a part of a plan. A very cunning plan. A plan to draft a good replacement for Favre - Matt Leinart!!!

I take it back - they don't suck, they are GENIUSES!!

Or, maybe they just suck.

Did anyone watch the Buffalo/Patriots game? Brady must have been touched by the Golden Child or something. The score was 16-7 in the 4th quarter, NE gets the ball at like the 25. Brady huddles the offence together for a minute before the drive, gives some kind of motivational speech. Then he tosses a 55 yarder to Branch, and they score like 4 plays later. This is after they looked horrid during the 2nd and 3rd quarter. Then they get the ball back and they score again quickly.

I want to know what he said!

I want to know what he said! :)

He was on a mic actually, here is the transcript:

"Listen up you bastards, you want to keep doing Pepsi commercials? You want to pimp more credit cards? You'd better wake the hell up, I'm too pretty not to be on TV! Now let's get out there and make sure I'm going to get laid tonight! On three, BREAK!"

Or the Bengal's secondary is that good... the third time this year they've had five interceptions, so it's not like it's a fluke.

And a strip, if you count the dude who stole the ball from Favre.

Yeah, I know, but the 1-6 record doesn't really fill me with confidence. Although, if you're going to be 1-6, I guess they are in the right division.

Lost a close road game. Had a small lead down the stretch. Wasn't humiliated. Quarterback completed passes. Didn't have their secondary torched by Todd Devoe (the Broncos depth chart goes that deep?)

And what are you complaining about? YOU weren't the one talking up Philly's receivers so heavily and how Denver was outmatched. It was someone else.

Frickin' Lions...

Well now, they're the Lions. Disappointing sure, but not exactly unexpected.

Playing without Roy Williams and Charles Rogers sucks though. Well, at least Roy. Mike Williams still isn't there yet - being a rookie receiver is tough enough, having a year of rust to knock off is worse.

Wow. What a week.

Six bets on NFL games called in. Four lost, two won. This is the first time I haven't atleast broken even in almost three years of NFL sports betting.

On the bright side, I won a huge bet playing Utah State on the spread (+33.5), and struck gold on my single unit money line flier on South Carolina. I was afraid I was going to have a seizure on that final field goal.

Oh, he'll get laid all right. He'll get laid.

LOL. That's pretty good.

I watched Fresno pound them here for a 32 point margin of victory. I can't say that I would've bet on them to keep the margin that low against Alabama. Especially since the only reason they managed to keep it that low against Fresno was because Fresno was playing 3rd stringers by the 4th quarter, and they managed a couple late self-respect scores.

Prior games between Bama and Utah State hovered around 32.5 points. Add in the loss of Prothro and only mediocre showings by both Kenneth Darby over the last handful of games (and the fact that Croyle still seems to be trying to adjust to not having a legitimate playmaker to toss the ball to), and I had the game down as a low scoring affair.

My predicated score of the game on Friday evening when I placed my bet had Bama scoring 40 and Utah dropping in three fieldgoals for a total of 9. I was very confident in my predictions, and rode it to the bank. They may not have been perfect, but they were close enough to gold for my bank account.

Excellent Monday Night game tonight, the Ravens really came to play. Their offensive line was particularly impressive giving Anthony Wright plenty of protection. Just happy to see the Steelers able to pull this one out.

I have to admit, the Ravens OL and DL looked pretty good (even though not much else looked good for them, unless you count the kicker...). That said, after years of watching the Steelers play down to the level of their opponent all the time, it still drives me crazy.

And one other thing-- the Steelers are so predictable it's pathetic. Third and 3 from the 29, game time running out. What do you do? If you're the Patriots, you have a play action pass, throw it to the tight end for a five yard gain and maybe get a touchdown if the defense was selling out on the run. If you're the Steelers, you run off tackle, and everyone knows it, so the D totally sells out against it. Argh!

I agree with you that Steelers are very predictable. Cowher's always been a "I'm going impose my will on you , lets see you try and stop it" type of coach. For the most part when the running game is clicking, it works.

What really gets him into trouble is when goes up against coaches who are excellent adjusters/gameplanners, namely Belicheck. The game against the Pats a few weeks back had me tearing my hair out in frustation. Especially when the Pats would goad the Steelers for a sell out blitz and pop a screen for 20 to 40 yards.
