Child's Play 2008 in the Final Weeks

Section:

Just a head's up to remind everyone that this year's Child's Play annual toy drive for children's hospitals is still going strong. There are over 60 partner hospitals in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Egypt to choose from.

Things are going very well this year. The community has really come through with awesome events like Funde Razor, the Desert Bus, and too many individual efforts to list here. As of Friday the total stands at over a million dollars.

There's a lot more left on those hospital's lists, though, and a couple more weeks left in the drive to round things out. Want to chip in? There are still plenty of ways for you to help.

  • Head on over to http://www.childsplaycharity.org, look for a hospital in the town nearest you (or anywhere else, for that matter), and give to that specific hospital via their Amazon wish lists. Or you can give to the general fund via the Paypal link below the map.
  • Head out to Ebay and see the selection of auctions donating some or all of the proceeds to Child's Play.
  • If you haven't gotten it yet, the Harmonix PAX Pack of Rock Band songs (including songs by Jonathan Coulton, MC Frontalot and The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets) is available to the end of December and all proceeds go to Child's Play, so be sure to download and rock out!
  • The showcase events like the Child's Play Charity Dinner, Funde Razor, and Cthulupalooza are all over, but there are still some events left on the schedule. Check and see if one of them is in your neck of the woods and have some fun for charity.

Let's see if we can't make this a happier year for hospitalized children all over the world. They accept donations at the main site year round, but the main toy drive runs until December 31, 2008.

No Gears 2 for the kiddies, I see. I think I could only donate something I could stand to play myself... NHL 09 it is. Would hate to be responsible for furnishing children with more Pokemon.

Thanks for this - I'd planned on getting our local hospital some things and then forgot, so thanks for the reminder.

Whose got two thumbs and took his sweet time with his donation this year because he wasn't thinking when it came to the toys arriving in time for Christmas? This guy. D'oh!

I love being able to pick out the toys that I want the kids to be playing with at my local children's hospital. Unfortunately this year my chosen hospital had very few books to choose from, they were all downers about living with some disease. I still bought a couple of the books but does a kid who is sick really want to read books about their disease or do they want to read books about Harry Potter beating up some evil wizards.

The only part that isn't wonderful is that Amazon sends me half a dozen notifications of packages shipping over a 3 week period. I will still only choose Super Saver Shipping though.

This CD from the Penny Arcade store is another way to help out a bit. All proceeds go to Child's Play and it's a fairly good line-up of nerdcore artists.

That's an awesome link, Murdoc. Thank you.
