A Little Yankee's Hate

The Houston Astros have the best pitching in the game and yet their budget is about a THIRD of the Yankees'!

'Course, we sometimes hurt for hitting...

Who are these Devil Rays you speak of? Do they play in the Major Leagues?

Especially since they have no football distracting them...

The team who recently got rid of the worst team owner in professional sports*, went 39-34 since the all-star break and is about to land the Yankees GM (maybe) and the hottest young coaching prospect in MLB.

*It's estimated by the TB media that the Devil Rays get close to 30 million a year in Luxary Tax profit sharing. So the Yankees were basically paying the D-Rays salary.

Actually, they did win. They won their division and they made it into the playoffs ... for what, 10 years in a row? How many teams over the last 10 years would have made it into the playoffs for the first time in many many years if the Yankees team salary were, say, $100 million. You're a Yankee fan so you act like the only thing that matters is winning the world series. Do you know how many fans out there would give their left nut just to make the playoffs?

You are doing more than wasting your money. Yankee hubris is preventing other teams who make more from less from realizing the dream of making the playoffs. Take off your accursed Yankee uniform and look with fresh eyes upon the damage Steinbrenner is doing to our national pastime.

Oh f*cking christ.

The Yankees are that trust fund kid with a coke problem. They have an insanely large bank account, but no patience. So when they need a quick fix on the weekends when the banks are closed, they hock the Gauguin on the wall or the jewels in the safe. As a result their Farm System is a joke. Jeter is loved because he was homegrown, the modern day Yankees have long since pawned away their next generation of Jeters, and can only turn to the hired guns to maintain their competitiveness .

give me a break...

Com'on guys, I said a little Yankee hate.

How did this thread escape from the Sports forum?

Shoo little thread! Shoo! Go back to the firey chasm from whence you came!

So the Yanks/Red Sox's rivalry has had nothing to do with the revival of Baseball after the strike years? You would rather have it go away and have NO baseball?

I hate to tell you this, but without the Sox/Yanks baseball would not be in as good a shape as it is now (despite what the owners tell you). In the Northeast baseball is the only sport that is more popular than football.. everywhere else football reigns.

Actually, they've been on top of the AL East since 97 (Link). Not a bad run for a team. It's a little easier to dislike a team that is always winning. But, it has always been like this. To say that the Yankees stifle baseball is to deny their heritage in this game. No matter how you look at it, the rise of baseball, here and abroad, is tied to the Yankees Franchise. They've always been the team to beat. At least since the early twenties.

Wow. I thought the Halo's were the only franchise that pillaged their farm system. Since Moreno took over in 2003, they have jealously gaurded their up and coming players, but from the 70's til then, the Angels would trade any hopeful prospects would be traded for a has been at the drop of a hat.

Want to know what saved baseball following the '94 strike? It was the divisional playoff between the Yankees and the Mariners in '95 that brought fans back to the game. It was an amazing best of 5 series that show cased some of the best post season baseball I have ever seen. The BoSox, Cubs and everything else came well after the fan's had forgiven and returned to watch the games. That series between the Mariners and the Yank's had people glued to their TV's and posted some of the best ratings seen since the strike.

Umm, not here. Basketball, Baseball and Hockey are all we got.

Man alive, Cope, let's just celebrate the 'stros, dawg!

Why are you attacking me? I am not wasting a single cent, nor am I acting like the only thing that matters is winning the WS. I was simply trying to respond to the Yankee critics who claim that they bought victory. They lost, so they clearly didn't buy any victory. But please, try to differentiate between your hatred of Steinbrenner and your apparent disgust with Yankees fans. If you'll read my previous posts, you'll see I'm no fan of Steinbrenner either.

That's all I'm gonna say about that. Can't wait till next season!

Ummmm... no. It was Cal Ripken in 1995 that saved baseball. I don;t think many folks remember the divisional series between the Yankess and M's.

Ok ... I was trying to get into the spirit of the topic and, after re-reading my post, I clearly went overboard. My response was much more vitriolic than I had intended.

Hubbinsd, I apologize. I did not mean to attack you.

Damn, while Cal's walk around the field in the 5th was memorable; that play off series was amazing. I'm not alone in this either.

was that the playoff series with the famous Jeter cutoff back flip throw at the plate?

Nothing makes me happier than when the Yankee's lose...well unless both the Yankees and the Red Sox are booted out. Those two teams house the most annoying fans in all of sports.

Money cannot buy the win but it does get the Yankees to third base.

I'm not a baseball fun but to get in the spirit of the topic, BOO! DOWN WITH THE YANKEES!!!

ChiSox and Angels? no thanks... wait whats this? Hockey!!!

Yes Guru, you do in fact rule. I am proud to be listed alongside you in my sigged quote.

Halos are up one game in a best of seven series. Not bad for travelling two times in three days.

Guru, the flip you mentioned was the 2001 Divisional series where the Yankees defeated Oakland in 5.

2001 -- The Flip
With Jeremy Giambi on first base and two out in the 7th inning of Game 3 and the Yankees barely holding onto a 1-0 lead, Terrence Long lined a double into the right-field corner. While the slow-footed Giambi ran toward home, Shane Spencer overthrew the cutoff man. Out of nowhere came Derek Jeter, who raced across the diamond, grabbed the ball halfway up the first-base line and made a sidearm flip from foul territory to Jorge Posada, who scraped the back of Giambi's leg with a tag.

I always love it when the Yankee haters come out. No team, including the Yankees BUY their championships. Every team in the MLB pays their players. If you know of a team where the players are volunteering their time, let me know. The Yankees are willing to pay to get the top talent. It doesn't guarantee a World Series win every year, but it sure gives them a better chance than the Devil Rays. The Yanks are simply the best sports franchise in the history of recorded sports. 26 world titles. Show me a team that comes close. Who cares if A-Rod hit .133 in the series? His power alone (led the AL in homers this year don't ya know) makes other teams pitch around him and alter their defense. Any team in baseball would kill to have him on their roster. They just have owners who aren't willing to pony up the cash and fans who don't fill the seats. Look at Montreal earlier this year. They were in first and still only had 5,000 seats filled for a week-end game. That's a town that doesn't deserve a team. If the Yanks are playing at home be it first or seventh place, you can count on 50,000+ screaming fans in the stands. So yeah, they didn't win it this year which bums me out. But I'll be standing tall next year with my opening days seats (I always fly up for the first series of the year) and cheering them all year, even if they have a $300 million dollar payroll and are in the cellar. I'll Female Doggo that this much cash should get better results, but I'll be cheering none the less. Any other Female Doggoing is just pure jealousy...

The Montreal Canadians. They may be Canadian, but they're pretty good

Hehe, I love you Yankee fans...so cute when you say these kinds of things. "We're awesome!!! You're just jealous!!!"
You can count just about every single Red Sox fan (and player) among the people thanking God that the A-Rod deal fell through.

And believe me, when word was that a trade was in the making to send Manny "Mr. Gold Glove" Ramirez to the Yanks, there was rioting in the streets. The 2 top Red Sox players are completely single-dimensional. They can swing a bat, but that's all. No thanks, the Yankees might need them to actually catch a ball once in a while.

There's uh, some news that might interest you about that...

BTW you might want to edit your recent post to correctly use the quote function, thus making it easier to tell which is quoted and which is you.

Yes, I actually was referring to last year when there was a Montreal Expo team, now the Washington Nationals. My bad...

's all good...'specially since we beat up on the Nats for the most part this season =)
