A Little Yankee's Hate

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA !

Money doesn't buy wins! Spend more, George spend more!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA !

That is all.

While my own team is not one to be thrifty with the pocketbook ($40mil for Renteria!) I will enjoy me some Yankee Hate now as well.

This game/series just goes to show you that A-Rod only produces when his team is up by 5 runs already.

I was actually hoping that they would not make the playoffs and they would have to go back to the drawing board That would include rebuilding their farm system, looking for better long term "value" talent instead of just the "diamond" veterans, getting rid of some of the high priced wastes of resources (see all of their pre-2005 season pitching signings).

But Steinbrenner is surrounded by fools anyway and as long as he has his hands on it forget about winning the series again Yanks fans.

Let Cashman run it you old man.

They were really pitching around A-Rod. He did not have much of a chance to help, and in the last 2 games he was sacrificing his discipline for anything close to the strike zone.

He should have just walked, walked, walked some more.

Funny how A-Rod has the Yankee fans ire this year.

Larsson,

Are you a little Yankee?

Don't give me your clever old world grammatical sophistication 1D

Piss off mate !

Yup the Yankees lost last night...Santana pitched great, but that game should've been tied in the 9th if only Sheff and Crosby hadn't looked where the f*ck they were going. A-Rod double play ball in the 9th was inexcusable. Johnson pitched great, and would've been the hero if the bats had done anything.

So yeah, the Yankees lost and I accept that, but FWIW, calling Cano out at first was total and utter bullsh*t. Out of the base line my ass.

And as for the Yankee hate, haters have two arguments: If the Yankees win y'all say "You just bought your title with a big payroll," if they lose it's all about gloating because Steinbrenner spends a lot of money. So basically we can't win...Say what you like about Steinbrenner, I think he's a dick. But then again I'm a Yankees fan, not a Steinbrenner fan.

Heheheh.

The Angels did earn their spot this year. My hat is off to them for slaying the Yankee Dragon.

Did you mean to put this in Sports and Games?

Good game last PM. Both teams are spent and I'm not sure how the Halo's are going to get around the fact that two of their starters are hurt or sick. Colon walking off the mound in the second last night was a bigger blow to the Angels/White Sox series than it was to last PM's game. The Yankee hitters lit him up in game 1 of the series and I expected them to do the same last PM.

The throw to first by Molina and then having Cano called out was a close damn call. I didn't see him make contact and would have called him out on strikes vs. having him advance to the bag like he did. Not sure what the hell went on there but it wasn't much of a 'hit' to begin with. He did block the bag and was outside of the running path to first. Again, close call and it was not a decision that would have swung the outcome of the game.

ARod hitting .133 in the series is abyssmal. Jetter should get his freakin' payroll. He stepped up and produced through the entire series. That guy scares me everytime he comes up to bat.

You have to admit that the Angels play the Yankees well and seem to be a thorn in their side all year long.

Question of the day now is; do the Halo's have enough starting pitchers for a seven game series against the Sox. Can they repeat what they did to the Sox last time they faced them in Chicago in September (swept them in a 3 game set). What's the X Factor in having the Sox sit for the past week while the Angels and Yankees destroyed each other?

It's stupid to hate the Yankees... hate MLB and the Players union for allowing the game to become what it is...

I admire that franchise as its one of the most historic in all of sports... its just a shame that MLB has become what it is...

that being said I still enjoyed the BoSox and Yankees playing eachother all year long.

It's a shame we got robbed this year of another ALCS classic with these two teams..

ChiSox and Angels? no thanks... wait whats this? Hockey!!!

I agree that at times they were pitching around him but, even Mr. Yankee lover himself Tim McCarver was saying how surprised the Yankees were at how many good pitches he took during this series.

While I have to agree that it was a pretty subjective call by the home plate umpire seeing as how the first baseman was standing on the outside part of the bag, forcing Cano to run inside to avoid a collision, I just have to say ... tough. Bad calls are part of Baseball. Ask the 85 Cardinals and that idiot Don Denkinger. And the phantom tag of one Yankee named Chuck Knoblauch.

Cry Yankee man. Let it all out.

No I agree with you about bad calls-- doesn't make the call any less bullsh*t though.

Actually, you can win. All you need to do is reduce your payroll to the point where it doesn't look like your trying to buy the championship. I know he's just playing by the rules, but if the rules aren't fair to start with, its almost as bad as cheating. If you want some love, earn it, don't buy it.

I beg to differ. I hated the Yankee's before the inflated salaries and general Steinbrenner antics/stupidity. The comic payroll is just a bonus. It's the storied, magical boys of summer in their pinstripes hagiography/ tea bagging that I detest. It's an irrational emotion, and it's mine.

So there.

I thought he only produced when he was knocking balls out of the defense's hands?

Total agreement on Derek Jeter's greatness, from someone about as far removed from Yankee rivalry/adoration as you can get.

Go 'stros!

With Boston's and Yankee's pitching staffs being what they were this season, they did not deserve to get past the first round. And I like Boston but all they were this year was a bunch of hitting talent.. no defence.. no consistent pitching.

And Professional hockey does not exist.. College hockey is a different story.

Can you identify for me the line at which a team goes from buying it to earning it? I'd like to know..I'm sure Mets fans would like to know. They spent a pretty penny this year and I didn't hear too many people accusing them of buying their mediocre season.

It's at the luxury tax line hubb.

Or how about the Red Sox?

What about teams that spend too little? Are my Devil Rays to be hated too?

The Marlins haven't spent much money (right?) and they have two world series under their belt in 12 years.

Are my Devil Rays to be hated too?

You meant you haven't been all this time?!

Thats a good question and I was vague in my answer because I don't know the answer. I guess its just one of those things where you know it when you see it ... but I'll try to make my point with some concrete numbers.

Lets take a look at where we stand in 2005 ...

1 New York Yankees $208,306,817
2 Boston Red Sox $123,505,125
3 New York Mets $101,305,821
4 Los Angeles Angels $97,725,322
5 Philadelphia Phillies $95,522,000
6 St. Louis Cardinals $92,106,833
7 San Francisco Giants $90,199,500
8 Seattle Mariners $87,754,334
9 Chicago Cubs $87,032,933
10 Atlanta Braves $86,457,302
11 Los Angeles Dodgers $83,039,000
12 Houston Astros $76,779,000
13 Chicago White Sox $75,178,000
14 Baltimore Orioles $73,914,333
15 Detroit Tigers $69,092,000
16 San Diego Padres $63,290,833
17 Arizona Diamondbacks $62,329,166
18 Cincinnati Reds $61,892,583
19 Florida Marlins $60,408,834
20 Minnesota Twins $56,186,000
21 Texas Rangers $55,849,000
22 Oakland Athletics $55,425,762
23 Washington Nationals $48,581,500
24 Colorado Rockies $48,155,000
25 Toronto Blue Jays $45,719,500
26 Cleveland Indians $41,502,500
27 Milwaukee Brewers $39,934,833
28 Pittsburgh Pirates $38,133,000
29 Kansas City Royals $36,881,000
30 Tampa Bay Devil Rays $29,363,067

Hmmm ... maybe the Mets didn't draw the ire of the people because their team salary is still half that of the Yankees. I mean, c'mon now, $208 million. Thats seven times the salary of the Devil Rays. Twice that of any other team but the Red Sox and still $85 million more than the Red sox. The Yankees salary is more than the Devil Rays, Royals, Pirates, Brewers and Indians combined. Are you kidding me? How is that considered fair?

In the name of all that is holy and just in this world, I call Shennanigans on George Steinbrenner!

$92 million on the Phillies?!

LeapingGnome wrote:

Really? Did the Yankees win this year? If not, then how can you accuse them of anything besides wasting their money? Everybody wants to accuse the Yankees of buying pennants, but neglect the fact that they didn't win.

Copingsaw wrote:

I refer you to my answer above -- the Yankees didn't win. How can you accuse them of not playing fair when all they're doing is wasting their money?

hubbinsd wrote:

A close call is exactly that, a call that is tough to make and entirely up to the homeplate ump to make. Sorry that you feel that one play had any impact on the game. ARod's hit into the DP at the top of the ninth had a bigger impact than say that call. The corner was turned when Kennedy got a triple off a fielding error by the Yankees.

*chuckle* Well, at least you're willing to disregard an entire playoff season due to the fact that not one team from the North Eastern US made it. Kind of a shame to be so regionalized in your interest. I do enjoy watching the BoSox and the Yanks kill each other. Too bad the penant race wasn't a touch closer (i.e.: one game playoff of the AL East Divisional title).

Well, at least LA has a sizeable market that can crank up some viewers for the ALCS playoff.

"Bronx Bum$"

Is this the only paper in the US that simply *bashes* a home team for falling short? I do look at other sports pages around the US and it seems that it's generally stuff more like "Oh well, nice try, maybe next year"
