Anyone planning on getting the new Far Cry for Xbox?

I just read a review of it today and it sounds really nice. I especially think the multiplayer sound interesting. It will be nice to play on some player made maps.

I've played the demo from OXM... although it's nice, with the amount of hilarity that could be had with their trap system. I put it in the may be pile...

I liked what they did with it at E3, looks like a better game than the PC version, which really fizzled out once you got into the mutant parts.

I hear that. I loved that game right up until the mutant stuff started happening. It was right around there that most of the fun just kind of died.

I'm waiting for word of mouth from those of you who do decide to take the plunge on it before I really consider a purchase.

Geez, no kidding. Sneaking through the water and tropical foliage, planning your attacks on mercenary compunds was some of the most fun I've ever had in a game. I loved that. Then they shove you into endless narrow corridors and dimly lit rooms and it's just old-fashioned Shoot the Monsters.

Sadly, no Xbox for me, you'll have to tell me how it is.

IGN gave it a 9.0

Far Cry Instincts is a must-play for anyone with a remote interest in shooters. The new feral abilities and completely redesigned single player experience mean that even gamers who played the heck out of the PC version will find value in this title. Graphically, the developers have clearly pushed the Xbox to its limit. Whatever quirks this game exhibits (fairly long load times and sporadic pop-in) are a product of trying to do too much on aging hardware. The map editor, multiplayer, and feral melee attack are reason enough to give this game a try, so stop reading and join the hunt.

Solid.

I am going out today on my lunch break and buying it, so I will let everyone know how it is.

Co-op?

I don't think there is any co-op in it. That would be awesome though.

which really fizzled out once you got into the mutant parts.

one of the biggest kick in the asses EVAR in PC gaming.. I'm all gungho about the game and having a blast and then.. whammo.. it becomes a gameplay nightmare.. I was never able to tough it through the worst of the mutant levels.. but I understand it did pick up again towards the end..

I'll get the Xbox version and give it a whirl...and perhaps revisit the PC version soon.

Did you ever get the 64 bit version running on the PC?

amusingly enough... 64 bit computing is still a mess.. the "64 bit patch" for Farcry is for AMD 64 processors only...not Intel Xeon/P4 64 bit processors..

despite both being able to run XP 64 bit...

That's pretty weird. But you have to have 64 bit XP OS to play it right?

yes.. XP 64 and an AMD 64 processor... then your good to go to start downloading the 400+mb "patch"

Considering I wouldn't touch XP 64 bit for use as my primary OS... I guess not

throwing this topic way off track... here is my 5 min XP 64 wrap up..

1. Works!! hey it really does.. its stable and 100% functional.. plus if you have 4gb of Ram it works flawlessly with that unlike 32bit XP
2. CD Burning and Drive Image software is pretty much broke (Alcohol 120% will not work at all.. Nero sorta works)
3. Manufactures are starting to support XP-64.. I got 64 bit drivers for my Audigy, Logitech Keyboard and Mouse, Videocard, Motherboard drivers, Raid Card.
4. Printers are a joke.. most modern HP LaserPrinters you'll be using good old trusty included with XP64 Laserjet 5 PCL drivers...forget HP official 64bit support.
5. Games work! I didnt have one issue running 32bit games under XP-64
6. Outlook 2003 crashes in cached Exchange mode.. immediatly upon startup.. no clue.. as I couldnt find anyone who had the same issue I did..so it may have just been me.

Didn't the patches have new content?

I picked it up after work last night. I didn't get too much time with it but I did play a little singleplayer and some Live. For an xbox game based of a fantastic looking pc game, this is a really good looking game. Placing the traps on the trees in fun too. I played online in a player made map and it was pretty cool. I still have to play around with the map editor but I think it will be pretty fun. Overall I think it was a good buy, and even though I didn't preorder the guy still gave me a free copy of Rainbow Six:3.

I think I'll stick it in the top three on my gamerang list and see how it is.

Gamespot gave it a 9.2. I'll bite. I'll be trading in some games for it. The multiplayer mode Predator sounds awesome. Hopefully it will be able to tide me over for a least a bit of the time left until Dreamfall comes out.

Mmmmm... Dreamfall...

A downside, though, is that when I look at the game, all I'll see is how much better that Farcry 2 tech demo looked. Heh.

I've never played the PC version, but enjoyed the xbox demo. The only thing I didn't like about the OXM demo was that enemies seemed to spot me too easily when I was trying to hide in the bushes. I'd be crawling along and have no idea if I was "hidden" (guess I've gotten spoiled by NOLF2 and Theif games).

Now that I have had more time to play this game I would say any fan of FPS's should get this. The singleplayer is a lot more linear than the pc version but it is still a fun game and pretty much a different than the pc game. There is nothing better than seeing a merc walk into one of your branch whip traps. Feral abilities are a nice touch too. The regular multiplayer modes are nothing to write home about( I can't speak for the capture the flag mode as I havn't played it), however, Predator is fun as hell. It is quite a rush to jump down next to some mercs and just tear them apart with the predators feral abilities. In summary, this is a great game and one of the first xbox games in a while that I havn't gotten bored of after a couple of days.

Picked this up this afternoon. After a couple of hours, it's still loads of fun. Looks amazing. Certis and the GF talked me into buying it. Now I owe them a good screw and a beer. They can decide who gets what

I'll take whichever one has the most foam.

That still doesn't settle it ...
