NFL Week Three General Discussion Thread

The only early game on my TV today is the Raiders vs. the Eagles. Akers has to be out of his mind to try that re-kick after re-injuring his hamstring.

Kinda sad, really. I mean, if the special teams coach had just said, "Akers is hurt, so his approach will be a little slow. Make sure you're on-side" and it could have been avoided. The second offside was just sloppy.

Watching Jacksonville v. NY Jets on one tuner, and DirecTV's "Red Zone Channel" on the other.

Culpepper and the Vikings are starting to look like Culpepper and the Vikings again.

Looks like McNabb might be coming out. Detmer's warming up on the sidelines.

Kyle Orton is sucking at every opportunity.

The Eagles just need to be patient. Eventually, the Raiders defense will fall apart as it almost always does if it stays on the field longer than its offense. Then, Philadelphia can go to town on them just like they did with the Niners last week.

The Bucs just had the WORST pass interference call in the history of the WORLD called on them, Donald Driver was playing defense on the corner and they just GAVE it to them. Then they hit Gruden with unsportsman-like conduct. Best 80 yard penalty ever.

ugh...Eagles played like crap... thank god Akers was able to bail them out.. but I gotta think he's pretty much done for quite some time..

edit..

watching Harrison being carted out.. that sucks for NE.. he's a great guy/player.

Sorry for the delay, but here's the early scores:

Atlanta 24, Buffalo 16
Tampa Bay 17, Green Bay 16
Tennesse 27, St. Louis 31
New Orleans 16, Minnesota 33
Oakland 20, Philadelphia 23
Cincinnati 24, Chicago 7
Cleveland 6, Indianapolis 13
Carolina 24, Miami 27
Jacksonville 26, Jets 20

Go Bucs!

Go Cadillac! We'll ride you to the playoffs baby!

It is so so nice to have a run game baby!

The New England Pittsburgh game looks like it's going to go into overtime.

Awesome.

I kept telling everybody this was going to be a good game at work the other day and nobody listened.

*edit*

Vinatieri saves the day again. Ya gotta love that guy.

Late scores:

Arizona 12, Seattle 37
Dallas 34, San Francisco 31
New England 23, Pittsburgh 20

Some thoughts:

Tampa Bay & Cincy - Wow. Who'da thunk it?

Green Bay - Wow, but obviously for a different reason. This is just sad.

PHI's David Akers - I called him crazy for going back for the second kickoff, now I think he's absolutely insane to trade his entire season for one field goal early on in the season. Why?

Indy's D - Yes, people, they have one.

The 49ers - Same old team from last year, only with a more expensive bench warmer. Haven't seen anything out of them to change that opinion.

New England vs. Pittsburgh - Very simple, folks. The Pats own the Steelers and they own Rothlesberger. They're still the team to beat and the benchmark of the AFC. If the Bengals want to lay claim to being the best, they must go through them to prove it.

Shaun got me 4, count them, 4 TDs for my fantasy team plus 140 yds. I'm a very happy man.

I love my Pats and especially my Adam. He's so dreamy, *swoon*. This kind of reminds me of last season. Let's get all our big defense players injured early on, keep winning games anyway and then cleanup in playoffs. I won't mind!

Jaguars escape New York with an ugly win over the Jets. Ugly in the "they should never have been that close to you" sense. Jaguars pass protection needs to step up still, but when Byron does have protection, he's just picking defenses apart.

*Legion*, there's no such thing as an ugly win. As John Madden often says, victory is the best deoderant. Now, there is such a thing as an ugly loss, but that's another story.

Rumor has it that McNabb has a "sports hernia".... no clue what that is.. but he looked to be in pain basically the entire game.

Madden only thinks that because his Raiders never won a game in non-ugly fashion.

A sports hernia is a tear of the tissue that holds the groin muscles in place. It's not a tear in the groin muscles themselves. It's apparently very painful, usually fixed by surgery. Kendrell Bell had one last year in preseason, missed the first 7 games of the season.

Damn you Ladanian Tomlinson. What with your "Best RB in the NFL" ability, and your dashing good looks. Damn you.

yeah...I'm thinking McNabb is going to have to sit and miss at least 6-7 games...

I guess we'll see... but McNabb throwing 52 times a game cant help... Eagles better find a running game pronto..

Did you watch the game?? after 3 games it appears to me that Kearse has either completely lost it or is playing hurt... he's basically looking like Mike Mamula.. he is completely ineffective and has been reduced to trying to speed rush on the outside and getting pushed into the backfield removing him from run plays and pass plays.. he doenst have the speed to blow by people and/or lacks the strength to do an inside move or push around someone.

certainly its a troubling thing...

Something that's gonna hurt all season but not require surgery.

"Doc, gimme the needle!"

Now the Eagles can be like the Titans a few years ago. They better have a good lead going into the 4th, because their QB is gonna be coming down from his meds.

Sanj and I were at the bar watching the SD-NY game and this dude walks up and asks me who the best RB in the NFL is. We are in San Diego and the question seems innocent so I quickly reply, "LT!". "RRRRRRRRRR, try again!" the dude replies. He seems a little abrasive, but I humor the guy. I run through a list of what I believe to be competent backs, all of which are met with disapproval and an increasingly hostile inquisitor. At this point I am getting fed up with this prick so I start throwing back ridiculous answers like Ronnie Brown, Willie Parker and Michael Vick. He does not pick up on the joke and I can only assume he is acting like a dumbass because he has been drinking all day; god forbid he is like this on a daily basis. Finally, I get him to spit out the answer: Shaun Alexander. Definitely a stellar back and one that I should have guessed. He then proceeds to spit out a bunch of stats and says that he knows all Seahawks stats so that he can back his team up whenever somebody starts talking. What a tool.

Christ, what a loser. Is it because San Diego is such a sh*tty sports town that we attract such a-holes or does this happen in your town too?

Anyway, Go Chiefs, beat the Broncos.

I'm going to, on DirecTV's "Short Cuts" replays. I focused on the Jaguar game during the morning games (well, "morning" here on the West Coast) and had work to catch up on during the afternoon games (though I mostly kept the TV on the Pitt/NE and SF/Dal games).

I love the "Short Cuts" so much. Nothing like seeing every play of a game in only about 25 minutes.

Kearse's play has declined every year he's been in the league. He hasn't been a marquee player for years. I'll keep an eye on him when I watch the replay.

Damn skippy.

Harrison gone for the year and Akers for at least a week.

No way, jerks. Go donkeys!

Nope, that's just San Diego.

KC v. Denver: All day at work I was telling people that tonight will show whether the Chiefs are a real contender or just a paper tiger like they have been the past few years. It's a test of KC's strength: Can you go into Denver and play solid football, or play like intimidated sh*t. Well, we have our answer. The Chiefs still have no heart. Bringing back Gunther was painfuly stupid. I was high on Vermiel, but it'll be time for him to go at the end of this season.

Today's reports indicate it may be an abdominal strain instead of a sports hernia. Something that's gonna hurt all season but not require surgery.

. <<< edit: where did this spare period come from? I didn't put him there. And why am I down here too?

Pennington may also be a goner.
