Good Sega Genesis RPG's or Action RPG's

For the life of me I cant recall anything other than Phantasy Star II

I need some to play on my phone...

Shining force I & II

Altered Beast!

Shining force I & II

End of Thread!

Phantasy Star III and IV

There was an actual D&D game for Sega Genesis I remember spending many hours playing. Let me see if I can find it...

EDIT: Aha! Wow, it's weird how many memories a couple of screenshots can bring up from a long time ago.

Cha-chinG! Warriors of the Eternal Sun is one of the best RPGs EVAR.

I believe it may have been Sega CD, but the Lunar games are quite good. What do you people expect me to do, with Shining Force and Phantasy Star taken?

Phantasy Star III and IV

PS3 - no. I just hated this one. The 'your descendant carries the story on' deal seemed like a cheap way to introduce multiple endings.
PS4 - yes, with a "hey didn't I play this when it was called 2?"

Other ones of note:

Y's III
Landstalker
Sword of Vermillion
Shining in the Darkness
Soleil

Erm, a double post for your pleasure!

Nothing to see here, this is totally the next post.

LOOK DOWN!

Umm... didn't the crew that did Alundra for the Playstation have some really kewl Genesis Action RPG?

Lunar was excellent, I fondly recall playing that on the stupid Sega CD.

What about Shadowrun, was that an action RPG on the Genesis? I seem to remember people saying it was better than the SNES Shadowrun, which was good, but not entirely accurate to the Shadowrun world.

Me too. I still have that old piece of junk, actually. Lunar, Lunar II, Vay... they all still work!

ok I'm going to check out Shining Force 2 and this D&D game you so speak of..

thanks for the suggestions

Shining Force II rocked the house.

I like the combat shots too, not a whole lot of movement, but I liked the art style.

Okay, I totally need a phone that plays Genesis games. What kind of magical device would accomplish this need?

Any smartphone with a common OS, I guess? There are emulators available for Symbian, PocketPC and PalmOS.

Allow me to provide a second strong recommendation for the Genesis version of Shadowrun. That's probably my favorite Genesis game of all time.

The Genesis port of Pirates! Gold was also really well done. Might want to give that a shot.

I agree, it was not the best one of the series.

PS4 - yes, with a "hey didn't I play this when it was called 2?"

No PS4 was really the best sequel to the original PS. It actually had alot of references to the plot of PS and took place in a very similar "universe". PS2 did not "feel" like it took place in the same solar system and PS3 was just silly how it took place on a spaceship.

Y's III
Landstalker
Sword of Vermillion
Shining in the Darkness
Soleil

I agree with Y's.. I forgot they made a Y's for the Genesis!

Man I need to get this phone, now I have a hankering for PTO and ROT3K III.

You could also get a GBA. I would be FAR cheaper.

I remember liking Beyond Oasis very much when I was younger. To bad I don't remember much about it other than that now.

Hm. I don't remember that, but my brother and I tag teamed PS4. He played some when I went to work, and I played some when he was out for the evening. I may have missed some significant plot points.

Of course, we beat it in 2 days.

It wasn't a bad game, but I remember it reminding me of PS2 a lot (which was fine by me, because I really liked 2).

Most people did. You didn't see a lot of copies of this one floating around. There were a few other good action ones, but I think most of them were on the list Edwin linked to.

DING-DING-DING!

Landstalker was pretty good. I also liked the Genesis version of Might and Magic, but like all M&M's its a long, long rpg.
Sword of Vermillion, Star Control I (not really an rpg though), Toejam and Earl, and D&D Warriors of the Eternal Sun were all worth playing.

edit: Star Control II wasn't on the Genesis

Star Control I & II

Star Control I was a turn-based strategy game with combat resolution as an action game that could be played separately.. not an RPG.

Star Control II was never released for the Genesis, but for the PC and 3DO.

If you want a SF RPG for the Genesis, the game you're looking for is Starflight.

Phantasy Star 3 was okay. 4 was outstanding, according to my somewhat iffy nostalgic memory.

Coming to a xbox360 near you.

Buck Rogers.
DuckiDeva still makes me hook that old beast up every other year or so to get some good fun out of it.
She loves the "bleach" that the aliens do when they die.
Hehe.
