GWJFL SUMMER Week 3

Redhawk - I can play any evening after 5 pm PST as well, although, tonight I'd have to go at about 6 pm PST. I suppose I'd prefer tomorrow at 5 pm on the dot.

Good tips, Legion. Sure wish I could play this week's game over again. I need to act less and think more when I'm playing football; I tend to get into the action too much and not deduce what's needed with reason. I was trying the home run ball over his defense a lot, but his corners were sick. Didn't try the five receiver combo (I don't even think Washington *has* five receivers, heh) and his run defense was usually able to bring down Clinton Portis with ease. Lemme tell you how disheartened I was when in the fourth quarter he realized he hadn't even been playing Michael Strahan all game. When I saw that big gap-toothed grin trot on the field, I realized how horrible my offense was.

It's real easy to get sucked into the action and go from thinking to just reacting. I get sucked in all the time too.

One problem you probably had is that Portis is a damn featherweight - 205 pounds! Might have had more success pounding the line with Ladell Betts, though even he's not exactly *heavy*. Fullback runs are hard to find in the playbook sometimes, but if you've got 'em, they're pretty good for pounding out the tough yardage.

Loganrapp, I forgot I am helping a friend put in his pool liner tonight after work. I should be home after 8PM but I have a hockey game to play at 9PM so perhaps after 9:45 PM EST would be better. Ok?

I can't swing that - I leave for the Bay Area today, so I was wanting to get it in before I go. I guess Legion'll play this one (*sigh*).

Well... I just found out that I have a late night meeting to go to which pretty much kills my entire evening anyways. Sorry I couldn't play against you but I'm sure Legion will handily kick my ass. Legion, I should be available to play Wed - Fri after 6:30 PM. Hopefully no meetings, wives or other assorted problems interfere again.

Certis, seeing as how I am at another baseball game tonight and you said Wednesday anyway, let's shoot for that.

Wednesday, 8PM CST it is!

Senor squirrel, I patiently (or perhaps not so patiently) await your response.

Also, looking at the next few weeks of the schedule makes me want to curl up in a corner and cry.

Next week it's Certis, then Spynavy, followed by none other than Legion!

*sigh*

Legion maybe around 1PM PST - which would be around 4 my time on Thursday will that work?

BLEED THE CLOCK!

It's a date - I'll bring the blanket, you bring the Courvoisier.

Roger that, I have a Minor's League baseball game tonight at 6 so tomorrow it is.

Hey Legion i might not run that much but now with harrison and moss on my team. How many teams match up really well with both on the field. So I will find the weakness in the defense. And I know how to ran the ball too.

We'll find out.

BTW, Mr. Coach. I tried running the ball against you and you shoved it up my ass with a candle on it. Sometimes running isn't the answer. Sometimes, you just need to batten down the hatches for an old fashioned ass kicking.

Picnic basket and all.

Yeah, but I'm really really good.

You just weren't ready to game that day. I've played you before. I know your "A" game, and that wasn't close. It was like preseason. You'll be back.

Sometimes running isn't the answer.

No, it's just the answer when the question is, "how do I win?".

Sometimes you have to accept a 3-yard-per-carry running game and just keep hammering it.

I keep GWJ interesting.

The Jets are ready to go in the next few nights. Can you do Friday evening around 7 or so? I can try to do tonight too if I get home in time, work has been crazy with a capital C.

Warlock?

Grumpicus, when would you like to beat the Lions?

Any night after 9:30 CST, Warlock... though I would be remiss if I didn't point out that the Packers are 0-2 and the Lions should be frothing at the mouth to get their shot at the boys from Lambeau.

Oh, right. Forgot I hadn't posted.

Let's say... tonight? That's tentative, because my CRAZY unemployed schedule knows no bounds!

I won't likely be home on Friday night, but depending on what time you get home tonight I could potentially play this evening.

Tonight might work. Cindy took away my Internet access last night but I believe it has been restored. What time?

Legion, are you subbing for Loganrapp? Are you available to play after 9:30 PM EST tonight?

Let's say... 10pm CST?

Not tonight. Tomorrow or Friday would be good.

Redhawk and I played a great game tonight. He played a great defensive game that kept me down much of the game. I had 0/5 3rd down conversions, only 5/13 passing for 92 yards.

His offense had a hard week, losing Brady, Dillon, and a no-name QB. Jim Miller did well in relief of Brady (well, after throwing the ball to Ed Reed for a TD).

In fact, Miller had the most spectacular play of the game. Going for it on 4th & 5 from the Baltimore 38 late in the 4th, Miller dropped back and saw three Ravens behind the LoS. He ran about two yards too deep for Ed Reed's dive to get him. Ray Lewis, after bumping into Reed, shot a bit far to Miller's left, and Miller gracefully sidestepped him. Then, as Kelly Gregg was about 6 inches from nailing him, Miller zipped a pass through the only space that Chris McAllister had given David Patten...TD!

This play really was a thing of beauty. We had to watch it several times through, just to take it in. And the reception was maybe even more spectacular than Miller's ballet in the backfield. McAllister was in perfect position underneath Patten to intercept the ball, but there was something about the timing and placement of the throw that got it through.

Thanks for the game, Redhawk. Sorry about Brady and Dillon...

Edit: By the way, two games won on FGs within the last 1:10 of the 4th quarter...that's awesome!

12 Tom Brady (QB) New England Strain - Neck Out - 9 Weeks
28 Corey Dillon (HB) New England Strain - Neck Out - 5 Weeks

Real nice firesloth - did you kick his puppy too?

The really bad thing was when Rohan Davey came in to play for Tom Brady...he only lasted one play before going to the sidelines injured. D'OH!

You monster! You neutered the Patriots offense! Faulk is a decent backup RB but their backup QB situation is dismal. I'd angle for a trade to get a better QB from someone.

In other news, Edgerrin James and Reggie Wayne put on their new Vikings uniforms and rampaged all over the Chargers to justify their existence and solidify coach Certis' view that is a mastermind super-genius. Reggie Wayne caught two of the four completed passes by backup QB Ferotte (he was 4/8, 2 INTs, 2TD's) for 14 yards and a TD. Edgerrin James ran 55 yards on the opening drive (35 in one play) only to watch Ferrotte throw the first of his 2 picks on the San Diago 16 yard line.

Later in the third quarter the Vikings were pinned deep after a punt at their own 10 yard line. James got two very solid blocks (one on the inside and one that stuffed both safeties) and ran untouched for an 89 yard TD.

Edgerrin James' final stats were 17 carries, 184 yards and 1 TD. Not bad for the new guy!

Redhawk - I can offer you Tommy Maddox if you are interested. Richard Seymour would look good in a Pittburgh uniform :)... Let me know if you want to talk trade... I would be open to other options - perhaps one of your WR's...
