Sports radio rumor - To to Oakland?

So the rumor is a proposed trade TO to Oakland.

Can you IMAGINE Moss and TO on the same team. Yeah offense would be good, but I'm talking about the comic relief of those games!!!

This simply MUST happen. My god, that would be awesome.

The Oakland Raiders - The "Carnies" of the NFL.

I've heard this thrown around the last few days and no one is even remotely convinced it could happen..

The Raiders appear unwilling to sign Jerry Porter to a long term deal so why would they sign an older TO to an even larger deal?

I know they need to sell tickets but I'm not sure this would even work given the cap.

Oh good, so the Raiders can be an even bigger letdown this season.

I can't stop laughing at that. Holy crap is that funny.

You mean the 5 year deal they did this offseason, they day before they did the Moss trade?

Anyway, this deal is NOT going to happen.

The rumor is that the Raiders would trade Porter to Philly (and they would have to move Porter if they bring in another receiver).

Problem is, the Raiders just gave Porter a fat contract extension with a $7 million signing bonus. If they move Porter, then they have to swallow ALL of that bonus money against the cap THIS year..... and THEN sign Owens to a contract.

Also, Jerry Porter is a really good receiver. Bringing in Owens would not be the massive upgrade that the casual fan might think.

doh! totally missed that news...

well yeah then this whole rumor is completely wacked...

and I agree there isnt much difference between Owens and Porter

Well because the Moss trade hit the next day (and was the talk of the league for the few days before), it was really easy to miss.

If anyone could/would get this deal done it's the Raiders. In fact the rumors and talk were very similar to this before the Moss trade. However I think the salary cap implications in this case are too much to overcome. The other thing that would make the Raiders pause is the fact that Porter is much younger than TO.

Oh Wow.. Theres already enough knuckleheads around here with Moss 18 jerseys.

Yeah. Nobody has $7 million in space to just burn up, and then try to squeeze Owens in. They'd have a hard enough time squeezing an Owens deal in WITHOUT lighting $7 million of space on fire.

It's not a problem of the Raiders being uninterested, or a problem of the Eagles being uninterested (although they are appearing uninterested publically, I bet they'd love to get Porter).

Anyway, I'd also like to point out that Jerry Porter is extremely underrated. He was a real "project" player coming out of college, and was probably drafted too early. But the project has become complete and he's a really good receiver. He has never quite caught for 1000 yards (998 last year), but in a better situation, he could really step up.

Owens, meanwhile, is overrated. He's very good - *very* good. But he's not head-and-shoulders above everyone else. Joe Horn produces just as much every year, except Owens is a bit more productive as an end-zone target. He's just a real media guy.
