GWJFL Summer Week 2

i'm game for that too cabot

Sorry for standing you up ruthless, but a buddy of mine bought a house and he threw a little party to celebrate. So yeah. Definitely wasn't home.

Bagga and I played a defensive struggle, but the second of only 2 passes I completed set up a last minute field goal and the Steelers pulled it out 6-3. He knocked away passes and I blitzed the heck out of his QB and offensive production was nil for both sides.

My offense is total crap so far this season.

Good game Redhwk, I had only one decent drive and that was punctuated by a lucky reception of a poor passing decision that resulted in my TD.

Same here. I'm trying to decide if I'm just {ableist slur} or if other people have figured out how to stop my simpleton offensive schemes. I'm guessing it's a little of both. GG Spy, that was a frustrating one for both of us. There were {Ed Rooney Voice} Niiiiine Sacks on my QB... although it felt like there were as many sacks as total plays in the game. That pass rush was incredible. It was to the point where my QB would get the snap and one backstep into it, he was immediately steamrolled. There wasn't even enough time for a slant or a screen. I honestly don't know if it would have been better to have no offensive linemen at all. My CB's harnessed their awesome power of Stretchy Arms, except when I needed them most... the last pass of the game. I hate football, and no amount of ice cream will make me happy ever again. <>

Well, the old settings (Legend) really seemed to emphasize highly rated players, and the kind of plays people were getting away with before aren't flying now. One example: I watched people throw ridiculous passes into coverage in the past two leagues, and because of their highly-rated QB, the passes threaded the tiny needle hole and made it to the WR. Now, those passes are getting intercepted left and right.

You think needle hole, Legion. You think interception. I think, "Y'know, I bet I could fit a football through there."

I have Patrick Ramsay. I don't think that's the case here.
When I had time to actually make a pass, my passing game was... normal. I only have about 2 passing plays with a rollout, and I didn't want to do those constantly because some people consider it "not cool" to use rollout very often. Basically Spy just had to load 9 guys up in the box to stuff my run, and I wouldn't be able to pass over them because his D was getting to me so quickly. It's almost like how in older games you could call goalline schemes in the middle of the field and bulldoze the QB before they could even get the ball in their hands. Mind you, he didn't do this every play or anything, but even when I knew exactly what he was doing there wasn't much I could do to stop it.

Replace Legendary with "EQ off" and you're closer to the truth. All-Pro just means our players are a little more useless

Which is just a different way of saying "they don't make the play FOR you now."

GWJFL3 was EQ on. We didn't have this. I was one of the guys screaming about EQ's effects like a banshee, but I've come to admit that I was stupid wrong. It ain't EQ.

Well, no. I didn't mean the example to really refer to you specifically.

There's a name for that - the "West Coast offense" (the original). It was made to defeat the 46, 9-man-in-the-box defense that you described in the rest of your post. So just do it! If you feel bad about doing a particular offensive play/style over and over, ask yourself this - is your opponent doing the same defensive play/style over and over?

2 games, 6 INTs. You're talking about me, aren't you?

Squirrel, would you be up for a Friday/Saturday game?

Swampy, can I get a day extension?

LOL. You're still getting used to your new team. You weren't really one to force many passes into coverage in the past leagues. You actually did it a lot more yesterday than I've ever seen you do before. I think you're still just finding your Packers legs.

I honestly think that in general everyone is playing less and making more mistakes. I don't know about the rest of you but I haven't played outside a league game in ages.

I don't know. Two games, six picks, sounds like standard operating procedure for the Packers.

/jaded Packers fan

I definitely took advantage of some unique Blitzburgh schemes in my game - once I shut down Portis it was simply a matter of rattling Ramsey. It really as a battle of a 97 rated Defense vs. a 92 rated defense. His CB's had Fantastic 4 stretchy arms - I swear one play a guy reached across 10yds to knock down a lobbed pass to a wide open Hines Ward. I have never seen anything like it. The pouring down rain didnt help anything either... It was a game of he who completes one long pass will win and thats what happened. Smoot shut down Burress and Shawn Springs took care of the other side with Ward and Randle El. I ended up completing a decent pass on a middle route (I had time for once) and that set up the field goal. We both had decent opening drives and then it was a defensive struggle. He had 2 bad penalties that killed drives and that was that.

Sounds like a neat game. Looking forward to taking on that defense next week.

I'm not

Dance for me.

That's because you're always not around on LIVE these days.

Yeah, I know the grammer sucks. That's cause I'm so street, yo.

Firesloth played an incredible game tonight and handed me a 21-0 ass whooping. I had a stunning 6 interceptions. Looks like I need to quit playing BF2 and start working on my sports games.

I had a lot of lucky breaks in this game. Lock&Load had a great first drive, going about 70 yards before Chris McAllister intercepted a pass on the 1 yard line. I thought I was toast in the middle of that monster drive. I considered myself very lucky when I scored on the resulting drive.

Until the second half, neither of us did much after our first drives. I got lucky on a play call, running Jamal for a TD on the first play from scrimmage in the second half. I think after that, Delhomme was forced to try throwing more to catch up, which feeds into the magical Baltimore D (at least with these settings...my guys were everywhere).

Thanks for the game, Lock. If it weren't for the INTs, you would have given a very close game...I mean, I was only able to turn 6 INTs into 7 points. According to the on-line pages, you had >250 total yards of offense, converted 6/7 third downs, and dominated the time of possession 25 min to 9 min....wait, something must be wrong with that stat. Aren't we playing 4x6 minutes? Maybe that should be 15 to 9 minutes.

At any rate, you can get your revenge in BF2!

Uhm....... no? sh*t.

Yeah the Ravens D was nightmarish - I couldnt believe how they were everywhere - there were no options and Jamal Lewis simply wouldnt be tackled. It was a frustrating experience to not be able to count on your players to excel at their positions.

ThinJ(cabbot) i caN PLAY NOW if you want its 9pm est

Well, we got our game in.

Despite a really strong first half, and a touchdown at the start of the third (putting me up 21-7), I still lost.. 35-21.

Ruthless scored 21 points in the third quarter, plus another touchdown in the fourth. I threw three interceptions in the second half, two of them resulted in touchdowns.

I know I got quiet in there somewhere because I was about ready to take a sledgehammer to my xbox controller.

I think I'm going to follow my normal traditions and sit out football entirely again next year. It's the only game I have that actually gets full-on frustrating for me.

Don't be that way, baby!

Seriously, sports games can get that way, but if you approach with the right mindset, you can enjoy them whilst both sucking and blowing (i.e. me at baseball)

Sports games tend to make even a sedate and refined bunch such as ourselves a bit testy, no doubt. Especially without voice so you can BS while you're playing.

FInsih out the season, play some games against mediocre players like myself, not just the more adept guys, then decide.

I would love to have a league fopr more casual football players. The problem there is that by virtue of the fact that they are casual players the league is doomed to fail. Catch 22.

PS. It SOUNDS like going pass when up 3 TDs was your downfall, but that is just what I gather from the brief write-ups.

Legion will be along momentarilly to fully excoriate you and make you want to snap your game DVD in half.
