Europa 1400: The Guild

Hey there, has anyone here played Europa 1400: The Guild? I just got this game as part of a deal from GoGamer, and I must say after sinking a couple of hours into it, that it's really an amazing game. It's different, refreshing, and unique.

It's not without its problems, of course, but so far I really enjoy the game. What do you think?

Definitely a worthwile title. Add-on being in the making, sequel already planned.

I''ve been looking at this one. Is it available in the US yet?

I believe it is, yes.

I''ve heard a lot of good things about it, I''ve been planning to pick it up but with all the good games being released at the moment I think I''m going to wait until I can find it cheaper.

Which doesn''t happen very often.... the whole ""waiting"" thing

As it turns out EB has it for $40. Of course, as there isn''t one any where near here, I''ll have to order it. CompUSA and Best Buy don''t seem to carry it.

I got it from GoGamer with just the Manual and the Jewel Case for around $25 with shipping. That''s a great deal.

Just so you know, Veloxi, when I followed that link to GoGamer, it welcomed me back as you. So if anyone else follows that link, you might want to avoid having your order shipped to Brian.

Not unless you change the shipping address but leave the billing address alone.

Whew, thanks for pointing that out. Sheeeesh.

I wonder if he''s going to appreciate the 30 copies of CFS3 I ordered for him.

You bastard! One is more than enough! ARG!

I hate to dredge up such an old topic, but was looking for Europa 1400: Gold ... which is the original game plus the expansion. Mr. Harris of Dubious Quality fame/infamy suggested in a recent post it was worth owning. I was scared off by the original game's reputation for making you and your system cry and thought I'd see if I could find a copy of the latest release.

Problem is, I can only find it at fairly questionable sites. I hate giving my credit card info to someone who's not even listed on resellerratings.com and doesn't seem to have any sort of privacy policy. So, someone know of a reputable vendor who carries this title and/or played it with the expansion. This is the part where I poke Veloxi in a suggestive manner, seeing as he's the local expert

It looks like you can pick up new copies of 1400 Gold for < $20 shipped on eBay, Wounder. I've found it to be a good place to pick up out-of-print/hard-to-find games, but YMMV.

Ah, I should have mentioned eBay. eBay scares me, badly. Not the concept of eBay... just the concept welded to human foibles.

I appreciate the thought, KT... I don't even consider eBay anymore these days as a viable route for a purchase, so forgot to mention my personal shortcoming in that regard

As an aside, "welded to human foibles" reminds me of the classic superhero, DogWelder. Anyone else read that comic? If so, then for additional chuckles, I give you... "Beuno."

I've seen it at local EB's recently.

I got it about a year or 2 ago it's a fun game. i know that you can get the first realease for 149 NIS (33.86$) in israel i thought there is a sequal to it with expansion (gold edition ).

I've loved playing thief and then capture a robber castle along with it. it was really nice to manipulate town hall by kidnaping people. you can use really dirty tricks against your compatition. and when you have kids you can pump their skills up so when they inharit you they'll be better skilled than you.

I played this game for a long, long time when it first hit our shores. Even with all of the bugs, it was a blast. As a side note, it's one of the few games that my dad (who usually sticks to turn-based RPGs) still plays and he still asks me when the sequel will be out. What ever happened to it?

What ever happened to it?

It was at E3 running on one show-floor computer. The 3D engine looked pretty spiffy but without a developer around I didn't really know what to do with it. At least it's coming!

My computer still rubs it's backside occasionally from what this game did to it. Brutal.

I've picked up a "I lost my old copy" copy at EB a few months back. Even if they don't have it in stock you should be able to order it from either your local retailer or a trustworthy online source.

It's true that this game is cranky at times but it's sooo worth the effort. Don't let folks scare you off. Play this game.

I see it on Go Gamer for $14.90. Is that the right one?

Since I've never heard of Go Gamer and a google search doesn't really clear it up I'm not sure. The price suggests that it's the correct one. Lacking a URL, I'd say that if the name parses close and the price is in the right range you're looking at the right thing.

I've used GoGamer before. The shipping is slow if you cheap out on it but they've had some fantastic deals. A bunch of us got SWAT 4 for $27.90 there.

That's the right one!

GoGamer.com is good stuff, especially now that EB/Gamestop are combining.

Combining like Voltron!
