Random thing you love right now that doesn't deserve its own thread

Yeah, I used to work in Romsey, which is very much real ale, ninepins and ploughman's territory, and found it required very different technique from ten pin bowling, even though my ball was actually spherical and not shaped like a lego spaceman's head

There were some slightly smaller round balls (it’ll never catch on) but those seem to run to the edges and miss all the pins for me.

I love all those kinds of bowling games. I don't know why. They just tickle my nervous system.

I lived in Yeovil for my first couple of years outta college. Tiny town surrounded by Somerset countryside in all directions. Pretty much every pub outside of the town (and several inside it) had a skittles alley. Made me wish the rest of the country had gotten onboard, it's really fun hurling chunks of wood at other chunks of wood when you're three sheets to the wind.

Yeah, having a meal and drinks (in my case tea) beforehand added to it. We all lined up down the side of the alley and ooooohed or cheered depending on the result.

Much newer vintage, but there's a place called the Gutter Bar in Brooklyn that meets some of the same needs: https://www.gutterbarbowl.com/

Go up to Danbury Conn and throw at Duckpins. That's a good time! (Or candlepins, but I'm not sure the closest to NYC).

There has never been a certified 300 game in duckpins. I was an average bowler in my first two years of high school, subbing in leagues. I averaged about 165. After that, I had a girlfriend.

My grandfather averaged over 200, and I think he topped out somewhere in the 260s. He was a fearsome bowler but as a farmer he could never go on the circuit. He killed it in tenpins too.

Or give Candlepins a shot. Couldn't resist posting that clip, the bowling alley in it is just up the roard from me.

Candlepins are also awesome. Also, I miss Massachusetts.

I grew up with candlepin. I don't think I went to a "normal" bowling alley until I was in my 20's. There simply weren't any around me.

I'm from that area of the world. Whenever my folks decided they'd had enough and wanted a drink, they would go out with friends and fob all us kids off with a fizzy drink, a packet of crisps and then banish us to the skittle alley for the rest of the night.

Carpet bombing a shopping aisle in WalMart is... therapeutic.

I modded my GameSir controller to fit my iPad! I bought an extension kit on Etsy. All it was was two plastic struts and a few (tiny!) screws. It works great, but isn't the most ergonomic for long term play. It's great crashing on the couch for short sessions though. The only problem now is that it no longer fits my iPhone. I may either undo it someday... or just buy another controller.

I had a volcanic rift in mine! Very mindful and demure.

After years of bugging, begging and pushing - my lovely wife finally put out some song on Spotify.

It's in Swedish, so most of you probably won't understand the words. But her voice is like an angels clarinet in a grand piano.

Actually, it's a Mapple store.

Thank you! I am SO proud <3

This is great. I doing some work training that has short meaningless quiz after some chapters. Very first question answer choice number 4: 'These are stupid and I hate them'. Sadly not the right answer but every single question is multiple choice and every single answer is A.

Someone did not want to do this.

I was able to test out of my company's annual 'security awareness training' this year with a similarly easy quiz with some answers being like 'tell them your password but ask them not to tell anyone else'. You had to score 100% to test out and that was never in danger. Thanks test designer!

I just moved. My old apartment was cheap for its size, but it was a basement apartment that had constant water issues including freezing pipes in the winter, no central air, and more recently mice and rats. I've lived there for 9 years now. My new place is a more expensive studio, but it's above ground, has a washer/dryer in the apartment, no rats, no mice, central air, and is closer to work. It's worth it.

Northern Lights from just outside my city.

Amazing!

I look at those pictures and think "of course humans invented the concepts of aliens and gods."

What an amazing presentation!

Discovered that Waze does a much better job than Google Maps of telling me which lane I need to be in, in time for me to actually get there.

This is freaking AMAZING.

This week, I learned of the AI-powered glasses that let anyone live dox anyone they see on the street.

Also, this week, a drone that is programmed with face recognition and will follow someone around (great for secure infiltration, assassination, and plausible deniability!)

And despite the techbros bringing us these dystopian horrors, there are still people who care and want to help people with real issues that are only half-solved by existing tech, giving us glasses that will live caption speech. I know that a translate app can probably do something similar, but this seems so much better.
