Kpop music thread. Stan talent, Stan-all.

Happy Throwback Thursday everyone! Got a fun one today, but first I think I hear the NEW MUSIC ALERT sirens going off! This is the new English-language single from the multi-national girl group Gen1es.

Gen1es - Hourglass

It's pretty good and has some fun percussion instrumentation, but also a bit all over the place; it has a dance break and then a bridge directly after, which is a bit weird.

-------------------------

Okay, on to the throwback! We're approaching the end of summer, so I gotta get a Sistar song in before it's all over. This one is perhaps not quite as iconic as 'Shake It' or 'Touch My Body' but it's still a heckuva good song and definitely summery; they're driving in a convertible, they're swimming in a pool, they're hand washing a car, and they're dancing on a beach! Summer stuff abounds in this MV. So kick back, pour yourself a glass of lemonade, and enjoy.

Sistar - I Swear

I heard Gyeongri from 9muses is having a solo comeback soon...

It's out! Actually it released on the 21st, I only just saw it pop up in my recommended feed today. I think this is a great solo release, and the song really fits her singing style. Kinda reminds me a little bit of city-pop, but just a bit, and there's a lot more English lyrics in it than I was expecting. Unfortunately (and at the risk of repeating myself), it's a bit short for my liking; a little 20 second bridge at around the 2:20 mark would have really been a nice cherry on top of this song (pun intended).

Gyeongri - Cherry

OH MY GIRL - Classified

*NEW MUSIC ALERT*

Rescene - Love Attack

New single from CHUNG HA

CHUNG HA - Algorithm

Happy Throwback Thursday! Hope you're doing well. I'm pretty sure we're all caught up on new releases, so let's jump right into the throwback. Last March I did a throwback to the debut of Lee Hi (1,2,3,&4) and today we're also featuring a Lee Hi debut, but in this case it's her debut album, First Love. This is the first MV from that album, and it really drives home the jazz & blues vibes that were started with 1,2,3,&4. Also, the video is really fun; it's a simple concept but done very cutely, and there's so many outfit changes! I lost count around outfit #10. Check it out!

Lee Hi - It's Over

New LE SSERAFIM just dropped:

LE SSERAFIM - CRAZY

And here's a pre-release song for the comeback/re-debut of Fifty-Fifty with Keena back and 4 new members. Apparently this got a false copywrite strike upon release, so I missed it last night. But the song is back up, and I like it. I do have mixed feelings about their return because the whole Cupid situation was so messed up and I'm still not 100% sure who was at fault. But, I guess I'll just be glad we are getting new music and hope the drama dies down.

FIFTY FIFTY - Starry Night

Loossemble is back with another EP, TTYL.

Loossemble - TTYL

I've been really enjoying the last couple weeks of off-beat releases (NMIXX, Young Posse, LE SSERAFIM) and this seem to be continuing the trend.

QWER - Fake Idol

Supposedly this is a pre-release and the main single from the album is composed by Jeon Soyeon (hence the cameo at the end). I'm curious to see what that will sound like.

Here's a (re)debut: Originally LIMELIGHT was a trio. They rebranded themselves as MADEIN and added the two members that left Kep1er, plus two more members, so they're now a 7 member group.

MADEIN - UNO

Still not sold on the name change. The song is nice and I like it, but I was hoping for something with more energy to put them at IVE or LE SSERAFIM levels.

The group Fiestar has had a reunion for the 12th anniversary of their debut and recorded a 2024 version of their song that was first released in 2015.

Fiestar - You're Pitiful (2024 version)

Hopefully they'll see some numbers on this and have an actual comeback soon!

Happy Throwback Thursday! I've got a fun one today, and it looks like we're caught up on new releases, (although that'll change about 13 hours or so) so let's just jump right in. This is another one from Orange Caramel, the sub-unit formed from After School members. This one is probably the biggest departure from their concept and overall sound; it's more of a techno/club song than anything else, tbh. But it's still pretty good for all that, although the MV is a bit of a nothing burger. Still worth a listen, IMO. Check it out!

Orange Caramel - The Gangnam Avenue

Tzuyu - Run Away

I like it.

Also, Public service announcement for how to pronounce TZUYU now that her solo is out.

NEW MUSIC ALERT! We got the debut of a brand new girl group from THEBLACKLABEL.

Meovv - MEOW

Loossemble - Cotton Candy

B-side from the TTYL EP. This song focuses on Hyeju with Vivi and Yeojin supporting her.

My guess is we should be getting "Confessions" next which features Hyunjin with Gowon and Yeojin supporting her.

Another b-side special video. This time from NMIXX's latest EP:

NMIXX - Love Is Lonely

I hope Tzuyu's new thing gets some real traction because, apparently, non-Koreans in Kpop groups don't seem to get many singles unless you're in Blackpink.

naevis is from aespa's lore. I believe she's basically the AI entity that helps the member's avatars in the virtual world. And now she's released her debut song.

naevis - Done

Yein - Dance With Me

----------------------------

Also this came out last week but I missed it!

Yerin - Wavy

Happy Throwback Thursday everyone! Hope you're doing well; I've been on a stay-cation all week this week so I'm feeling well rested, although I'm a bit antsy to get back to normal, tbh. I'm a creature of habit, for good or ill, I suppose. Anyway, we have a personal favorite of mine today, but first I think I hear something? What could it be? Is it...a NEW MUSIC ALERT?!

Rescene - New World

Kinda liking this; it's a pleasant little bop but with that extra little plus. Same with the MV; is seems simple at first, but it's got some nice post CG that elevates it and the fact that it's on location in California is fun.

-----------------------------

Okay, it #tbt time! Today we are featuring the debut of TaeTiSeo, the pre-eminent sub-unit from SNSD/Girls' Generation. This song is really iconic and has, as you might expect from the members of the sub-unit, a lot of great vocals to sink your teeth (ears?) into, especially when they start ad-libbing at the end of the song. Please enjoy!

Girls' Generation TTS - Twinkle

Uh so can someone explain to me why Newjeans decided to do a 50 50 and fight with management??

This HYBE dispute is interesting given the head company is acting apparently inconsistently with a prior court decision but yeah it doesn't look like the performers are going to fare well out of this.

I really don't know too much about it at all but this article from Vulture seems to be pretty detailed and informed.

All I really know is HYBE accused the CEO of ADORE, Min Hee-jin, of trying to separate from the parent company and take NewJeans with her. She's no longer CEO, and NewJeans opened a new Youtube channel the other day to air their grievances and demand for Min Hee-jin's return.

Yeah from my reading it's a concern from HYBE of a management takeover from the subsidiary company ADOR that owns the NJ assets; with ex CEO having the right to vest $75 million in stock options being the elephant in the room (HYBE preempting a dismissal on bad faith meaning there is no right to vest the stock options).

Smells like dirty corporate shenanigans I see not uncommonly in my work in corporate law, but it begs the question as to why the girls are taking a side which is never going to end well with HYBE being biggest market share company.

Just look at what's happening with Warner and the 50 50 3-member litigation. Nobody's gonna want to fund the girls and HYBE sure isn't going to promote them after this.

And here it is, the next Loossemble b-side video, Confessions.

Loossemble - Confessions

HWASA - NA

Happy Throwback Thursday everyone! Tscott already took care of new releases today...or did he?

Yoonie - Madagascar

This is a new song from former Weeekly member Jiyoon (technically it's a few days old, but I missed it until now), and the MV is all made by her too. Truly a solo project. I'm so glad she's still doing her own thing, it's great!

Okay, I think that's everything. But maybe not! Feel free to post if you find some other new stuff that you wanna show us, the more the merrier! Anyway on to the throwback; this week I'm featuring After School once again! This song is more of a slow jam, I guess you would say. But the thing that it is most well known for is the striking choreography. As far as I know this kind of dancing hasn't been done since (I assume due to the connotations associated with it) so check it out for the uniqueness of it if nothing else. Please enjoy!

After School - First Love

Fifty Fifty - SOS

Not sure about the choice of releasing a song named "SOS" so soon after their ship nearly sunk, but I like the song and video.

Other nice B-side video. This time from RESCENE.

RESCENE - Pinball
