A "hide thread" feature would also be welcome.
Better and more practical than ignore user, which would mess with quoting in threads and make weird continuity holes. Granted, I know I've thought it would be nice in the past, too. I personally think it's best to just live with seeing some people post things you do not agree with.
The person calling themselves "Evil Homer" wants to block someone - how bad is that other person??
Probably not bad, but Ned Flanders good.
Google does a terrible job of scraping this site for search IMO. I constantly struggle to find old NFL threads by searching for player names that I know for a fact I've typed in posts, and Google simply cannot find it.
Bringing this back around, I was trying to find the thread where we've talked about the GL.iNET Beryl AX router, and the Google search claims it has no idea what I'm talking about.
So, it's just impossible to find old threads now, right? A site specific search on Google, brings up maybe 6 threads as long as the search term is three letters or less and none of them are the one I'm looking for.
I just searched "site:gamerswithjobs.com Questions" and the only two hits were the podcast rss feed and the cooking thread. Not the Questions you want answered thread which is the current top thread in Everything Else.
Yeah it's totally borked, for months now. Used to be able to force google to do it still but now nothing. I search gwj and a topic and get a generic GWJ home page link and then a bunch of reddit threads about the topic instead.
No speaking from a place of knowledge here but I'm pretty sure the following happening:
- All the AI companies were scraping GWJ data
- This included Google
- The site admins blocked all scraping activity which includes indexing sites for Google search
As a result GWJ is no longer indexed on Google and effectively Google has no knowledge of the site outside of top line URL etc.
Yep. We’ll see where things stand on the AI scraping front as the new backend takes shape.
Yeah Google is basically wielding their monopoly power and forcing if you want your site indexed for search, you also have to allow it to be indexed for their AI copyright violation machine.

Hi, just checking, but is the intent here to block AI providers from crawling the forum data? If so, I think the only way to reliably do that is with robots.txt. The current file only excludes Baidu and Yandex; other bots are allowed in. (Maybe including google's and bing's - I don't know whether disabling their indexing affects their AI crawlers.)
It's relatively easy to either block all bots, or block AI crawlers but still allow search engine indexing. Happy to DM someone with more details if it helps..
Cloudflare moves to end free, endless AI scraping with one-click blocking
Maybe this is something we can take advantage of here?
I poked Certis about this, and here was the response:
We’re not gonna worry about it until the new site is operational. Search with Google internal to the site was already a mess before we blocked the bots.
I am trying to access the Discord and the community has disappeared from my Discord and when I click the link on the User Guide page it tell me the Invite has expired. Anyone know what is going on? I have been offline for a while.

There was an attack on the Discord server a couple of months ago and they may have changed how that works. I left a message in the Discord to see if someone has the right answer for you.
Not sure where you're looking but the link here works
