Post a quote, that could have just been text but instead for some stupid reason is an image, entertain me!

Discussions like this amuse me. A preference for single-player games is usually framed as an old person thing, but in the millennia-long history of games, single-player games are an extremely recent aberration.

You're not wrong, I'm just pointing out that that historical aberration arrived almost precisely as currently-middle-aged folks were born. The water we swam in as small fry was singleplayer games. Multiplayer is the aberration to us.

I was so confused by "single-player games are an extremely recent aberration."

Multiplayer games were extremely rare prior to the early-mid 90s.

Fond memories of playing Falcon and Carrier Command over serial null modem in the late 80s though!

BOARD games existed for millenia. Chess and Go say hi, and are multiplayer. Single player games were the exception (e.g. solitaire?) until the 70s when games on computers became a thing.

Ah, okay. I thought we were talking about video games specifically. hah.

Everyone but me was. I was just amused by how the discussion looked from a wider perspective.

And yet, I distinctly remember, at age 13, playing Ultima 3 on my Commodore 64, next to my friend, who was playing Ultima 3 on his C64, wishing with all of my heart for a magical cord that could connect our computers.

Also, I played MUDs, even when there were games with graphics, as late as...I'm gonna say 1995?
(Look it up, whippersnappers; text MMORPGs were a thing.)

I have fond memories of playing Doom death match over direct connect modem with a friend. Good times; I could tie up the families only phone line for hours. I could have done it for longer but I didn't know how and/or wasn't allowed to disable call waiting, so my connection would drop as soon as someone called the house.
I also played games that made me wish I could do multiplayer with friends so that we could each man different positions on the ship. I'm thinking Wing Commander Privateer with turrets on PC, and even back to Destroyer (WWII Destroyer in the Pacific game) on the Apple IIGS with front and rear main guns, port and starboard anti-aircraft positions, port and starboard torpedoes, depth charge launching, sonar, radar, helm, and more but you could only control one at a time and switch between them with awkward two letter codes. It seemed like such a perfect fit for co-op multiplayer that I think I even convinced myself that there had to be a way to do that.

It's called Cornu Occidens Morbus.

Spoiler:

Last one is way off.
Grape nuts and shredded wheat are the BOMB!

There's a trick to shredded wheat that I discovered way too late. It's not so good when it's too dry or when it's completely soggy, but there's a perfect milk saturation point where it tastes great. The trick is to use just enough milk that it hits that sweet spot once it's all absorbed.

I have a friend who's VERY particular about how soggy his cereal is. He's got a bowl that has a divider that separates it into two halves. Milk goes in one half, dry cereal in the other. Then he puts SOME cereal into the milk, then eats it at optimum sogginess. Repeat until he runs out of cereal.

I would play this so hard...

Dude, it's called Pokemon.

Is Cthulhu a Pokemon, if so, I’m not playing enough Pokemon.

Not specifically, but plenty of the end-game final evolutions of 'mons look like they could cause a jibber here or there.

Like tell me this dude hasn't existed since before the cosmos....

As someone who has Falken tires and regular Wendy's lunch, this is uncalled for.

Wildpeaks and a Dave's Double combo go just fine together.
