I love the Dunk and Egg novellas, but you'd think they'd have learned not to start adapting something without a defined ending by now.
Can't you just tell some stories, sorta, Real Tales of Westeros?

Pretty sure the lesson they learned from GOT is that they made a boatload of money, and didn’t have to give out refunds when the show went into the tank.

Well, we have 3 short stories already finished, and we do actually know the ending of both of the titular characters' lives. I am mostly curious about how they stretch the first story into a full season of content. I can see it working well as 6 episodes, but even then, that's a lot of extra backstory and who's who. Its's really exciting to me in any case, I love these stories. I think the current last story is the one best suited to a full season.
I have a hard time imagining the first novella working well stretched across six hours of television. That's three feature length movies (or it used to be; two feature length movies the way today's bloated monstrosities are paced). There's not THAT much backstory that's actually relevant. You introduce Dunk, you introduce Egg, you introduce his two brothers who matter for the purposes of this story (and you could cut one of them out if you had to). There's a love interest-- oops, never mind, you blinked, her page time's over. There's Egg's dad, and then there's his uncle, wow, he seems like a cool guy.
Oops, nvm, he's super dead.
That says "two hour TV movie" to me, not "six-episode season of television." You could do all three extant novellas as a trilogy of TV movies without needing to compress too hard.
I think it's more likely they'll use this as an opportunity to write a lot more original stories for the show. Given the episodic nature of the novellas, the time period involved, and the overall premise of the characters, there's plenty that a good team of writers could do given free reign to play around in the setting free of constraints from the books.
"A good team of writers" is doing a lot of work there, but frankly that's true of every single TV show on the planet. Literally anything is possible, and the ending of Game of Thrones has little bearing on the making of this show. I also think House of the Dragon is a big ol' dud from the writing perspective, so it's not like I'm basing this on prior excellence. It's just that, with a new show, and a new team of people working on it, I'll choose to remain hopeful until the show itself proves otherwise.
I like both your perspectives.
There are plenty of BBC shows (Luthor) that are just a quick mini-series of a few episodes. Just do that and call it good.
But lol Capitalism, amirite?
Re-upping this because... Season 2.
Prince Daemon finding out how his assassination plot went:
Malwarebytes is reporting a Trojan on that website, Ratboy...
Aemond is a damn wildcard.
Good thing I haven't read the books. Everything catching me by surprise.
Lord Paramount Oscar is a bit of a grouch, isn't he?
... I'm sorry, how can anyone keep a straight face with this pseudo Sesame Street crossover going on?
If Grover is the grandfather of Oscar, who is between them? I assume it's Telly Tully. Where are Bert Tully and Ernie Tully? Will we ever encounter Elmo Rivers?
Elmo Tully is Grover's son and Oscar's father. Also Oscar has a (currently unseen in the show) brother named Kermit.
Only realized today when I was reading a recap that this season is only 8 episodes.
I'm all for shows cutting down the episodes to axe filler. In this situation though I'm not sure how much story is really left for season 3?
Cut season 2 short to have 3 seasons might be a sneaky way to have... more filler.
Besides that enjoying this season because my expectations are pretty low and have read none of the source related stuff.
Please tell me there's a blooper of Matt Smith telling Oscar's actor, "It's not easy being green."

Maybe I'm just spoiled by how jam packed Season 1 was, but yeah, Season 2 has seemed pretty filler-y. Daemon tripping balls in a haunted house was cool for one episode. Two was pushing it. After four in a row I was screaming for them to get on with it already.
Two thoughts I had today:
1.) It's entirely possible that the actors on the show being from where they are have zero clue why American audiences find characters named Grover and Oscar so funny.
2.) What if they go to House Tulley's castle in the next episode and push the joke further? Like having a majordomo called the Count or there's some guy in the kitchen constantly shoveling cookies in his mouth?

Boo, Elmo should obviously be a bastard.

Yeap, I didn't think about Sesame Street for even a second.
Oscar did a power move against Daemon, which was very nice to see. At least this whole time having Daemon skulking in Harrenhal wasn't a complete waste.
Ah yes, who doesn't love a good cliffhanger of... putting chess pieces on the board?

Yup Zzzzzz.

Blah.
If season 3 had already been shot and it was coming out soonish sure but it's looking like 2026.
Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will come out before at least.
Not reading the thread but I'm on episode 6 and enjoying the show. However, that last scene was weird. Someone tells you their father raped them and tried to have them killed and you pick that time to make out with them. Also there was no indication they were into each other unless I missed it. I guess it wasn't as weird when doctor who had sex with his mom. I know it was dream but it was still weird.
That image from Automopedia keeps coming up as having malware on it. Can that be removed?
It was from X. I guess that shouldn't be too surprising now.
