Elden Ring Catch-all

250+ hours later and I still have no idea what the story is about. Same is true for Bloodborne and Sekiro.

I will argue sekiro had the most straightforward story compared to the rest. As it actually has a plot and narrative. And cast...

That said it still has details buried and obscured like all their games.

Finally was able to take down Messmer last night. It took another 10-15 tries but what did it in the end was the good old mimic tear, which was much better once I narrowed down my equipment and items, and a lot of use of the new spell you pick up near him, Impenetrable Thorns. The spell was suggested in one of the boss strategy videos I watched, and it's a hell of good spell in general. I'll be using it a lot from now on! Also after so many tries I was just better at timing dodges to his various attacks.

That's the spell that finally got me past the final boss. It's solid and with both you and Mimic using it, things get crazy. From what I've seen, the closer you are to the enemy, the more damage it does so there's some risk/reward with it.

Woo-hoo!! Beat the flying dragon Waheel all by myself with my strength sword build.

I can see what everyone was saying about the final boss who, if he’s in the mood, can just attack you endlessly until you are eventually and inevitably overwhelmed. The most annoying thing at the moment is dying and regularly seeing my mimic tier half a mile away, walking slowly back and forth as if wondering if he should attack the boss now or give it another five minutes just to be on the safe side.

I'm making sure I've every Scudatree fragment I can mopped up before I go anywhere near that final boss. I'm in the Stone Coffin Fissure currently, what a superbly designed environment. The boss is kicking my ass, still it's a spectacle & I'm enjoying it.

Oh yeah, Stone Coffin Fissure is gobsmacking.

I can see how I can improve my chances with the final boss, little things like when to cast a particular enchantment for phase two and a switch I can make to maximise damage. I feel like I’ll beat it eventually. It’s going to be a ‘have a few runs now and then’ job.

Just realized you can actually kill the yellow eyeball head things that frenzy you. It only took 3 play throughs, multiple dozen one shots and a max level character.

Ok, got the big fella’s health bar down to within his name (it’s how I measure success) so I’m probably going to get him soon but it’s not a fight I’m enjoying. I’m going at it like someone who’s been playing the slot machines all day. Surely, after all this time invested, endless repetition and constant disappointment, the next spin of the wheels has to be the big payout… right? Right!?

If it helps, whenever I've run into real bastards of a boss in FROM software games - Sekiro, I'm looking at you! -, I tell myself just exactly how long or how many attempts I will take during a session. This seems to keep frustration at a minimum while hijacking my brain's reward center for having "completed" a goal. I strictly stop if I hit the number/amount of time and this, anecdotally, seems to make it so that I beat most of these bosses sooner than I expect given their difficulty.

Thanks. When I fought Lady Maria in the Bloodborne DLC I adopted a similar system. I need to get back to that. It does save frustration if you’re just doing your few ‘practice runs’ then heading out.

I’m using a combination of shield, twin staffs and protective enchantments which can be very effective if I get all the switching between them right but it can be extremely frustrating when you get it wrong at a crucial moment.

I’m also going to head out and do some grinding to up a few stats and, if I can find them all, I want to do the last two levels to strengthen my mimic tier.

Try switching to a faith build and grab the Sacred Blade (get it from Enia at Roundtable, Elden Beast reward). You might not have to adjust your stats by much. It has a very strong ranged skill called Wave of Gold that works well against the boss and also for quick and easy farming levels at Mohg's Palace.

You can buff it with a couple of talismans and that skill combined with Mimic Tear (who will also use it) should get it done for you.

Elden Ring – Patch Notes Version 1.13

Plenty of weapons, ability, and item buffs there. They also buffed spirit ashe stagger resistance and HP across the board except for the mimic tear and a few other spirits that were already very strong.

Slowly working my way through the base game (using the Seamless coop mod) with my zweihander strength build. Taking my time in each area, am following a guide (by FightinCowboy), and I am finding it much easier when you can just beat them to death.

Thanks. I’ll give that a try. Something a bit more straightforward would benefit me I think and returning to my faith build feels appropriate.

Jeez this second

Spoiler:

Divine Dancing Lion boss fight in the Rauh Ancient Ruins

is infuriating. The spawned bugs that spit out the death blight are a complete nightmare when trying to deal with an aggressive boss.

I uh... cheesed this one.

Spoiler:

I put on all the arrow enhancing talismans, and used scarlet rot arrows / poison arrows with the serpent bow, and shot the boss from the ledge. It was in there before I dropped down into the ruin, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

It will periodically give up, but not heal. You can hit it with more arrows to restart the DoT clocks.

Warning: the basilisks still spawn up on that ledge, so be ready for a few! Also, the lightning attacks and such CAN target you up there.

Finally got it, my goodness when you've to deal with multiple enemies it feels like juggling razor blades. The Rauh area is incredible, design wise it might be the best in the game.

Ah cheers Tyrian, don't blame you one bit for that one, that's the most frustrated I've been since defeating the last one

This is very thoughtful.

I still haven’t beaten him but I know I will. I now have the Sacred Relic Sword and am out exploring all the areas I realise I just beelined through on my first pass. It means I can add a few more levels and get the final Scaduu fragments.

I suggest using every talisman you have that buffs holy damage and weapon skills. Hopefully you get him soon.

Will do. There are also some holy spells that are going to help.

I will say Messmar would have been a cooler last boss fight. Radhan is neat and makes sense for the story but felt Messmar had much more style and oomf. And a better fight overall.

Let's Play Shadow of the Erdtree | Elden Ring DLC | Part 1 | The Shadow Realm (Blind Playthrough)

Mad Matt Lugos

Tonight I swallowed my pride, looked up the weaknesses for the last two bosses I’d never beaten, respecced to a bleed build, and took them both down within 7-8 tries each. Goodbye Malenia and Promised Consort, maybe see you in Journey 2.

On the final boss now, only had one attempt, the first phase once learned seems very manageable but I've heard the second phase is a non stop assault with area of effect attacks thrown in to the mix too.

I'm astounded at the areas I've missed, Prospect Town & Jagged Peaks being two major ones I've found out about & now explored. I'm basically trying to get every Scudatree Fragment (with a guide) before I devote hours to the last fight.

What an expansion Shadow Of The Erdtree is, right up there among the best ever, the other GOAT being The Witcher 3 Blood & Wine.

I went back to early areas and found quite a few mini zones I’d completely missed. I might have to use a guide to get the level 20. I’m at level 18 at the moment and thought I might organically find more fragments if I did a thorough explore (which is fun) but I’m not finding any.

There's a lot of those black ghost beings, specifically the ones who throw pots at you - that are usually located in a graveyard - that you need to kill before they disappear, that you can get the scudatree fragments from.

I'm just using the Eurogamer guide. I think I'm about at about 20 odd in the list, although I've already got a lot of them to be fair although I'm going to each location just to be sure (bar the obvious sites of grace).

Fextralife wiki is good for this or there are a bunch of YouTube videos with walkthroughs.

Slowly but surely continuing to grind through Elden Ring. Defeated Godric last night, as well as a bunch of tunnels/mines. Only a little bit left and I will be finished the starting area, at around level 50.

Build is Zweihander, with STR/VIG/END all about equal.
