Watched The Beyond 1981 which was pretty gory but plot made no sense. A woman inherits a hotel that was built on the seventh gate of hell. A plumber awakens the gate on accident while trying to fix a leak. Then people die most while getting a eye or two ripped out or poked out.
The movie starts off hot with a man having his flesh whipped off with a chain. Then reenact the crucifixion on him. Then hit him with acid. The movie doesn't say why they are doing this but I'm guessing it is to close the hell gate or open it. Or maybe he stole one of their amazon packages and want to teach him a lesson.
The movie then jumps to present day and we get the plumber situation. There is a blind woman that isn't explained. Is she good, dead, alive, a ghost, demon, or maybe a human. No idea. This is movie you have to make up your own reasons for why anything is happening. The good news is if you like gore you will love this movie. They have WTF moment after WTF moment.
I don't know what to rate it. I'm not sure if I liked it or loved it.
Yeah, it's intentionally made to invoke being in a nightmare and not make logical sense. But it does namecheck the Book of Eibon, so if you want a reason as to why nothing makes sense, it's because of Lovecraft.
It's very much going to be a marmite movie, but I'm firmly pro The Beyond.

Watched Happy Sugar Life which is a anime that kept seeing called a great horror series. I would call it not good perversion without purpose. Or maybe it is something that is meant to appeal to child molesters. Japan has a problem with romanticizing adults with children and this dials it to 11. Then the show makes every single person have some kind of dark perverted secret. The nicest person on the show is stealing her friends underwear to sniff them. Other people are just into rape, murder, stalking, or murder.
So the show is about a teenaged girl that finds a kid and decide she will bring her home to love forever. Heavy pedo situation is implied. Meanwhile the girl's brother is out every night looking for her. He is also pedo. The teenage girl's coworkers see's a flier about the lost little girl and instantly falls in love with her and wants to get in on that pedo action.
The horror aspect comes from the teenager killing anyone that gets between her and the kid. I was kind into the show until it became clear there were no good people and that the show was sending multiple bad messages. Pretty much all japanese anime is okay with pedophiles. The show also makes victims into monsters. One lady that can only feel love if she is getting beaten is made out to be crazy weirdo not the people beating her. Then later on she ends up raping a teen boy. This is a masterpiece? This is stupid.
I give this 2 train wrecks out of 10. The show isn't just bad because of the perverts. The story is just bad. Multiple times the situation could have been fixed by calling the police. A guy has evidence and the location of the teen but doesn't go to the police. Instead he goes to a child molester for help. Okay

I don't normally go for "reacts" videos, but I find her regular astrophysics videos fun to watch and entertaining. Mostly because she's so enthusiastic about her specialty (black hole physics).
Watched Vampire in the Garden anime which looks pretty but is a bad series. In this world vampires are at war with humans. A girl and a vampire are sick of fighting. These two accidentally find each other and instantly are in "love". After knowing each other for a day they are willing to die for each other and kill their own people. Yeah a rehash of ever story ever told but more stupid.
The show just doesn't make sense, it isn't consistent with lore even in the same episode.
I give this 4 fangs out of 10. Watch Castlevania or Vampire Hunter D instead of this.

The Expanse was such a great show.
Watched One Dark Night which is about a girl being hazed while a mental vampire is making corpses attack her and the girls hazing her.
The special effects were not very good. I one point you could see the rails being used to move the dead people. The movie was basically static bodies being moved on rails and some floating coffins. The vampire was also static. The lack of any animation kind of put me off the movie. If you can get past that you might dig the movie.

YES! We finished it yesterday and absolutely loved it. 
Renfield was fun. Not an Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein level of comedy, but it was enjoyable.
The original Children of the Corn... also could have used Joel, Tom, and Crow.

As multiple of you promised, Ready or Not was indeed fun. Not entirely sure I'd put it into the Horror genre - maybe more action/suspense - but still fun. Ended up just buying it for a whopping $5 on Amazon Video.

It’s worth it. Such a different film than I remembered. And it features a young (if a tad annoying) Jeff Goldblum.
I watched Talk to Me. It was good almost too good to fully enjoy. Rather than being scared or tense I mostly felt sorry for the main characters as events unfolded. It was impressiv (astonishingly good make up effects) and made me really appreciate movies that can tackle a familiar concept in new ways and from a unique perspective. I really didn’t know where the movie was going or what was going to happen next.
Another endorsement for Talk to Me.
One particular scene was so well done I wanted it to stop.

Another recommendation HOST. There are several movies with the title ‘Host’ so get the right one. This on was made during lockdown and is a seance held via ZOOM or an equivalent. It’s brilliantly done.
Watched The Omen which I'm not sure if I seen before. I did recall the nanny scene and the last evil smile which memes are made of.
Here the devil takes the form of a kid or maybe its justice a normal kid. That question is answered pretty clearly.
All in all a good movie. I didn't know there are four other movies in the series. I was going to make a joke that he probably becomes president in one but that sounds like logical thing to happen in one of these movies.
Am enjoying Mr Mercedes quite a bit if you can call it a horror. Brendan Gleeson always watchable, most of the other actors pretty spot on too.
It's not like any of us can watch everything, but it still throws me when a show is in its 2nd/3rd/more season and I've never even heard of it.
Watched the first episode of Shining Vale, and it seems promising. Horror comedy, where Courtney Cox is an author with writer's block, and they try to address some of their marital/family issues by moving out of the city into a (haunted) bigger house. Greg Kinnear is Kinnear, and the other performances solid so far. Plus, Audrey from Twin Peaks is briefly in it! (Not sure how large her role will be overall, she just has one scene in the first episode.)
I was also definitely confusing Mena Suvari with Mira Sorvino, and trying to reconcile that until I looked it up.

Watched Cell 2016 and boy do people hate this movie. I actually liked it. I get that people don't like things but don't understand how someone can sit through a video that is 100% negative. The movie is about a signal that goes out over cellphones that turns people into crazy zombies. Kind of reminded me of The Sadness or The Crazies. The movie follows one dude trying to find his family. Standard zombie stuff. The twist is the the cellphone attack and how these are phone networked zombies.
The ending and the unanswered weird stuff is what seems to be turning people off of it. Most zombies movies don't answer anything and most end in one of two ways and this wasn't any different. Well maybe a little different. The best thing about the movie was the acting and attention to details. One person says they had to kill someone. They are really upset about it. If you pay attention to their hand you can see them flexing it from holding the knife tightly for so long.
I give it 8 blocked unknown callers out of 10. Who the heck answers unknown calls.

The parallels with The Shining are pretty clear, haha. But I'm enjoying Cox's performance (really everyone in the show so far).

I watched Night of the Comet (1984) this week. Saw an article about it being an inspiration for Buffy and realized I'd never seen it. Also points for being one of the first PG-13 movies.
It was pretty weird. For something advertised as a zombie movie it only had like 3 or 4 in it. Seemed much more like a long twilight zone episode where there was a twist.
Two sisters raised by an army dad to learn self defense and how to shoot. When the shit went down they were ready to fight. It was mostly fun.
Plus Robert Beltran (Chakotay) was in it. It's free on Pluto and Roku with commercials right now.

So glad to see some love for this show. The whole cast does a great job, but Cox really shines, I think.
