I think the term you're looking for is "Revenge Bedtime Procrastination" also called simply "Sleep Procrastination". I was very guilty of doing that before I had kids. Now I just can't. I will die if I got as little sleep as I used to. Or maybe just be a crappy dad.
Regarding keeping a balance between indie & AAA releases:
- I typically play games welllllll after release, so it's a lot easier to balance. I can see what seems to be "sticking" as games worth playing, instead of getting caught up on release hype, which drastically simplifies my play queue.
- I simply don't have time to play stupid long games, and really can only do a handful of 30+ hour games. Indie games tend to be the shorter ones, so it's muuuuch easier to slot in between AAA. I love 10-15 hour games, and shorter can be even better!
