I wasn't sure if this was a good fit in this forum or if it should have gone into Everything Else. If it doesn't fit I am happy to abandon and try again.
My wife and I finally were able to buy a house last year and she has gone ALL-IN on random projects. She took a carpentry class and enjoyed it so much that she has now acquired a moderate amount of equipment.
I stumbled across an article in one of my feeds about vinyl audio talking about building your own loudspeakers. I investigated some and found that there is an entire niche market of audio components and speaker kits catering to a broad range of hobbyists interested in creating their own speakers from very inexpensive to insanely expensive.
I have enough knowledge of basic soldering and electronics. Like many here at GWJ I build my own PCs and am generally pretty good at following directions. I am not concerned with the final product saving me money on higher end components because I assembled them myself. I am genuinely just interested in learning about audio/sound in a non-theoretical way. I have found that textbook learning is the least exciting and effective way for me to internalize and really understand new concepts. So I am looking to increase my knowledge and play around in a new hobby space while hopefully spending quality time with my wife on a project we can both contribute towards.
Has anyone ever done something like this? Any advice, tips, or guidance on how/where to start?
I have never done this so I can't directly offer advice, but I will mention that you should check out the DIY Perks channel on Youtube; he's done very similar things like what you're asking about, obsesses over every minute detail on his builds, and provides listings for all of the parts and 3d printer schematics that he used.
In fact, his most recent video was a build of exactly what you're asking about, I think.

Thank you for the recommendation. I will check that video out this evening when I get home from the job.
Tagging! I have never done DIY speakers, but I could see how you would do it. I have some big Klipsch Forte IIs, and they are relatively simple. I got the parts to replace the cones on the backside of them because they got pushed in at one point. Haven't got around to it yet. If you haven't checked the GWJ vinyl thread, that's where I post a bunch of vinyl and audiophile stuff. I post stuff in the headphone thread too. I have a bunch of Schiit audio stuff.

The GWJ search function has been broken since before I got into vinyl so I didn't really know that existed. I will look for it.
Here is the vinyl thread.
